What did you do to your cacti today?

if it was me chilli i would cut it up as when they pup i reken it looks better than just one stem of cacti

and having more smaller cacti is better than having one large one.

Not 100% sure but it looks pretty peruvanoid to me.

roseii is just an old name for peruvianus, similar to the way Trichocereus bridgesii is now called Echinopsis lageniformis

I think people call certain clones roseii to distinguish them?

here is a bit of discussion on it: http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=22871

Finally got around to buying some rocks to add to the tops of the pots, ended up going with scoria but am wondering what everyone else is using?

Gave a lot of the trichs a good dose of blood and bone too and now they all look nice a pretty with their new rocks.

Cereus peruvanus?? Nice eating fruit "Peruvian apple" I advise you to mulch your cacti with crushed limestone, for the aesthetics, calcium and weed protection :)/>

What's the theory behind the large gravel discouraging mould?

WelI, I spent the week end on the end of a grinder removing the chicken house and run to of course create more cacti garden.

This is stage two, I think three more cacti beds to come!!

Planted our Peru- (HB01), Cuzco, Knuthianus, Spach, Pach, J1 open, LC002, SS02 x Bridge, TBM, Sausage and a couple of mongrels.

The old wood stove was in the chicken house so decided to use it as a platform for my seedlings which will become stage 3-5 when they are big enough to go into the ground.

That's awesome Getafix! I think you'll have a huge garden in only a few seasons. :D

Today (will include yesterday). My brother and I got 5 wheelbarrow loads of pinecones, and made a bonfire out of them. They were messing up the field, and I wanted the ash for my compost heap - so out came the flames. Was a very intense blaze with blue flames coming out the middle. Anyway, today I collected the ash into the wheelbarrow, and was going to bag most of it when I noticed a nail sticking out... So took the nail out, and just decided to sift a little bit more to see if there was no more. Quickly found another 5 nails. Then it was another 10 nails... More and more nails later, I roughly had between 100-200 nails. I must've dug some old ash from when some muppet family member burned wood without taking the nails out. With the now clean ash, I put some of it into the compost heap and added more stuff to it, and bagged the rest of the ash. I think in roughly a year, I'll have some decent compost, and the adjacent plants can start to raid the compost heap by growing towards it with their roots.

:]

Not just today but done over the last few days.

Finished adding crushed stuff and some regular potting mix to the new bed, built up some "temporary" rock structures and put some of the plants I removed from the temporary bed back in.

Holding off on putting any more plants in untill I've transplated a C. peruvians from another bed into this new one. Here's the victim in question.

Going to be a fun job as it's wedged into that corner and I really don't want to disturb the plants around it more than what I absolutely have to, plus I'm going to have to attempt it all on my lonesome

Today I got around to cutting and replanting a bunch of cacti that had been neglected for a long time. I don't know what exactly happened to them, since I haven't been around, but it looks like a combination of cold damage and possum bites (who knows!). I found bridges so wrecked that I couldn't differentiate between psycho0 and eileen, and a bunch of atrophied lophs, arios, and, so sadly, my only and quite old lophophorides turbinicarpus.

On the plus, I found a four year old rooted pach cutting that looked almost as thick as it was short (never seen one grow so fat before growing upwards), and a real treasure, a 40cm fat scop pup with four ribs. Really made my day!

Took some photo's, 2 diff SS01 X TPM grafts on pere's, a bunch of diff Astro's on own roots, A. asterias, superkabuto mix, SK large white spots, SK variagated, although I don't see any vari yet, COAS and ASCO. And a few other random photo's from within the depths of the lightboxes.

Had to do some surgery on my TBM, who had pups emerging behind other segments (which were also pupping). Chopped them off, now I'm trying to root them (ouch)

Checked the cuttings a few days ago, and one of them had black rot which was spreading quite rapidly. So today, I chopped it out and covered the wound in sulphur. Cool story, huh?

Anyway, liking the pictures, guys. So nice to see your beautiful, spiky friends!
