i can only think of three from the seventies.

breaker morant

mad max

dot and the kangaroo

perhaps not as old, i can also think of gallipoli, the light horsemen, young einstein and a whole plethora of dot films. there was a vietnam film with brian brown, can't think of the name.

i always wanted to see "ghosts..... of the civil dead" because nick cave played a part in it and it seems like it might be pretty good.

theres some others i've wanted to see. before he did romper stomper, crowe was in a film with bryan brown called 'blood oath'. miranda otto is in one called the 13th floor. i dunno heh, australian movies have their appeal i guess.

Mad Max is probably the only pre-1980 Aussie film that I've seen (at least that's been memorable)

If you're happy to go as far forward as eighties to mid-nineties....

"The Big Steal" was fantastic.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099138/

Also, "Hercules Returns" 1993 is great fun

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107103/

Another not-so-old one is "Life" - excellent, but pretty heavy

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116875/

"Romper Stomper" has to be on the list

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105275/

"Fortress" 1986 will stick in my mind forever

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091069/

"Malcolm"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091464/

"Bad Boy Bubby"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106341/

I remember an aussie movie I found pretty scarey when I was a little tacker from around the 80's about this gang of bad guys who are out in the sticks when they kidnap a class of school kids and take them out into the bush, into some caves or a canyon maybe?

The bad guys all wore masks, I only really remeber one character who had a santa mask with a sawed of shotty.

In the end the kids go all ferral and make some man traps with wooden spikes in pits and stuff leading to thier dimise. kind of Loard of the flys style.

Anyway remeber the name of the movie?

EDIT: seems someone already mentioned it, its called 'FORTRESS', awesome movie and you can watch it for free on youtube
