I agree. Have you seen the film The Hurt Locker? You can see a lot of paranoia in that, but most of it is needed to stay alive. If you don't consider it paranoia, then I don't know what else to call it. Extremely cautious maybe?

It means more to me than that. I usually find that dictionary definitions don't encompass enough... Paranoia is a state of mind that anybody can have IMO. It doesn't always have to be a mental condition.

Don't some words get new meanings over time? Surely paranoia means more now than it did in 1891?
