brugmansia sanguinea seed

Recommended Posts

Hey, so a while back I remember there being a fair amount of interest in obtaining brugmansia sanguinea seed. just wondering if this is still the case and weather it be worth keeping an eye on the ripening seed pods I noticed yesterday or not.

In all my years of ethno enthusiasm I had not seen a brugmansia sanguinea producing seed until now, though there are ample specimens growing semi-wild in residential property's in my town.

So yeah if you are keen let me know and assuming there isn't any major disaster I'll send some out when the pods are ready. Cheers.

I would love some when/if they come up.

I love the "cool" varieties of brugs, especially vulcanicola. It's a pity that particular one isn't here.

[EDIT} - I should mention that by "cool varieties" I was referring to the sphaerocarpium group of brugs.

Sweet as. There should be plenty for all the above peeps.

Let me stop ya'll here tho, cause I wanna be able to send a decent amount to each person.

If there happens to be more I'll post in this thread when they ready, and will pm for addresses then.

Hi, so I think I have sent out the seeds to all but one of you.

Establishing who this last person is may take me a couple days.

But otherwise, if anyone hasn't received their seeds within a week please shoot me a pm.

There are more pods ripening so if there's more interest I'd happily send another batch out when they are done. Trades preferred from here on in, as the postage is quite costly when your on a low income, so its nice to have things to put back into the garden for the long run.

So just to clarify, the seeds I have access to and have sent out come from a yellow bloomed sanguinea.

According to Zed240 the cold climate Brugs are not self fertile, which means.. There's a 97% likelihood that they have been pollinated with the red bloomed sanguinea, as this is the only other brugmansia I have seen growing locally. Which is very cool, as far as I'm concerned!

Here's some blooms as promised, there also happens to be a bunch more pods slowly ripening which I will collect to trade or give away

Given the supposed self sterile nature of this plant, it's seed may be a hybrid. The only common brug in the area is the red sanguinea. Will be interesting to see what the flowers come out like.

Thanks for the pics of the flower! :)

The sanguinea can also be pollinated by B. Arborea if any of those are about.

I'll update you on the flowers from your seeds if I manage to get them there. I assume it'll be a year or so away though.

Coming along......

I also read something on FB recently about Midas, a yellow sanguinea cultivar and the possibility that it is self fertile, which as I said earlier, is unheard of as it's usually only arborea that is self fertile.

I sent the pic you put up through to others and they said your flower looks just like "Midas" so it may be possible that yours has pollinated itself after all. I was hoping for a more exciting colour than the standard yellow, but we will see hopefully in only a few short months when they flower. :)

If I didn't live in Qld, I would be all over this.
