had a reshuffle and repotting plan worked out before i was fully awake but forgot it... so just did the best i could for now oh yeah i forgot to post the awesome sunrise the other morning too kicked out the smellysyphilis valdeziana from the wanks in Lanc's , -might sacrifice it and flick it out the window of my modern day aztec pyramid onto some spikes... my seedlings are far nicer than their piece of shit . and their ariocarpus agavoidthese fluff has turned into the normal colour of orange from bleached white... what a bunch of arse eh? at least that one doesn't need sacrificing now.. maybe i can call it my own now it looks like a normal-ish plant.. hmm i wonder how many years it took for it to heal.. 2? , 3? - can't be arsed to check ... later on that morning ... good ole fulvilanus eh?

The forums and their back up server now cost in excess of $5000 per year as well as a huge amount of my time [even if I don't post much]. The SAB retail business has never made a profit [it just pays for the staff who run it], so the forum costs have always come out of my own pocket. While the first 10 years the costs were much lower, the prevalence of high volume media files has made the growth exponential. Over the next 10 years this might account for as much as $50,000 to $100,000 in value!!! We are the longest running ethnobotany forum in the world now and like any project it would be good if it was selfsustaining. If something happened to me for example, the forum would rely on donations to keep going and I know from past experiencs on other forums that that sort of money is not easy to obtain via donations each year. I met a forum admin recently who has very similar ethics in running a completely unrelated forum and he explained to me how some minor advertising on his site has allowed his forum to be completely self sustaining. His site is probably a bit bigger than this one, but still a viable option for us. There are 4 types of advertising. 1) Side bar. I feel these really interfere with readability on small mobile devices, so not considering this. 2) Header Banners. These really dictate the theme and feel of the site and can be really in your face. I am not too keen on them. 3) Banners between posts. I find these quite easily ignored as long as they are well defined as being an ad. It just means an extra click on the scroll wheel. 4) Inline google ads. These shit me to no end. So I reckon the best option is #3 and to have them restricted to a single position on each page, eg a single ad below the first post only. No bigger than a standard post height and clearly defined so it is easy to scroll past. It would be no more annoying than a randomly stupid post that si easily skipped. I am also considering setting up a membership level that is exempt from ads. Long term members who take offence to the imposition of ads, and mods who already give so much for the forums could be exempt. There could also be an automatic payment system where you can buy an exemption either annually or for life. I have no experience with these things but am told that they are very popular with members on my friend's forum. There are no firm plans for this yet and I am only just starting to look into the options. I just wanted to see how everyone else feels about this.

Psycho0 X Cuzcoensis. 1.6 meters and 30 cm circumference in 2.5 years. Breaks my heart, but I'm going to cut it into ~5 pieces to propagate it. Could have even flowered in a year or two if left alone, but I'd rather have many of them sooner. Scopulicola X puquiensis

i've never heard anyone say that. as is the case whenever somebody seems to be fighting the good fight, some conspiracy theorists will say "he's one of them too". like a lot of attempts i've heard to pigeonhole putin, i don't think it's accurate, but i'm willing to ADMIT that russia is a gigantic faraway realm with many secretive happenings and not above producing their own propaganda to counterbalance that of western media. like everyone in this thread though, i've noticed lots of things that made me suspicious eventually leading me to suspect that russia is no different to a handful of other countries who have stood up to US hegemony except that none of those countries wielded russia's stability and enormity. then again i could compare russia to the USA too. i'm trying to be balanced and avoid jumping to naive conclusions.

Putin gets the red carpet in Turkey....Turkey makes big on exporting fresh fruit etc to Russia, as the eu cries & dumps billions of $ of its sanctioned fruit (that's what you get for sleeping with the us) ...so Turkey a nato member gives its finger to the us while increasing its import of gas from Russia (in spite of differences over Syria, Cyprus oil & Ukraine)...looks like Turkey is choosing which side of Asia to side with....bye bye eu.... Its this lack of free thinking that will kill the eu, us & Australasia.

I have always said i am happy to pay like a membership or some fixed amount donation towards the Forum (with or without the adds). I don't like the adds, but it may be the best option as you cant rely on people paying a fee annually. People come and go and new members might not join if there was a fee involved, but the existing members know how great SAB is so would be more likely to pay. And then theres the cost, like how much would people be willing to pay. Lets say there was an annual fee of $25, you would need like 200 members to chuck in... would we get that?! I dunno. It really isn't fair that you (Torsten) have to pay the whole server cost and we just sit back , call it 'our community' but do nothing to help. The adds are the way of the times and i think you need to do what you need to do. If there is an option for a member to pay to be exempt from the adds, well thats good because they then have a choice. People are going to complain about the adds, but i am betting they will still come here.

Torsten, I love my plant collection more than anything else that I possess & SAB has played an enormous role in making it happen. I will support whatever needs to be done to keep this place around. Much respect mate

I have also done ceremony for trees that are to be cut down, I feel like, they like a few days notice and any alternative options presented. So I say to the trees spirit, for example, as it differs slightly with each one. Hello, I am here because I need your help, I wish to cut you down for timber so I may create beautiful and functional things and I know this will displace you so I give you the options of 1)Staying with the timber to be adored all around the world, 2)Leaving this tree and entering another. 3)Returning to ether from whence you came. Please forgive me for asking you to choose, I will return in 3 days, so be it. This is said with words, emotions and imagination, slowly and considerately. I find that if trees have had the proper warning and preperations they are happy to be cut down and to stay with the wood. Hence Photos! And the energy around the tree felling is one of excitement, acceptance, delight, honour. I found I don't feel so good when watching a tree be cut down that has not been respected as a living entity or given options it feels more like a murder.. When I place my hands on a tree I will feel the energy pulsing, I have found realy old trees have a slower steady pulse and young vibrent trees have a fast, rushing pulse. Interestingly trees with a slow pulse are incredibly figured timbers. I do not tell many of my wood buddys about my tree spirit principles for fear of ridicule. However I expressed my ideas to a major logging operation in the Solomon Islands, who also understood these spiritual principles, but again feared ridicule and therefore does not practice what he knows in his heart is the right way. Instead he will remove all trees from the Solomons within a 10 year period and cause the community great problems. This is why we need to talk about it. Let us close the gap between man and plant, for we did not weave the web of life.

Buddha Slab Queensland Maple flindersia brayleyana salvaged after Cyclone Larry 2007, Atherton Tablelands, QLD. 1.5m wide x 1.5m Long x 70mm thick. It was a massive slab and the bark inclusion inside was the exact shape of buddha sitting in full lotus position. When he was first cut you could even see all the individual toes. he is surrounded by slightly differently coloured auric rings and a rope entering/exiting the heart area. I will keep looking for my other photos of buddha slab. Cheers!
