Planet Desertification- new view
LokStok posted a topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
The good oil on desertification on this planet now, and the proposed mimic-nature=grazing solution. http://www.ted.com/talks/allan_savory_how_to_green_the_world_s_deserts_and_reverse_climate_change?utm_source=newsletter_weekly_2013-03-09&utm_campaign=newsletter_weekly&utm_medium=email&utm_content=bottom_right_image#t-16027 -

“If you take a highly intelligent person and give them the best possible, elite education, then you will most likely wind up with an academic who is completely impervious to reality.” "...the false assumption that the evolution of an expanding universe can be deduced from Einstein’s unphysical theory of gravity, which combines two distinct concepts, space and time, into some ‘thing’ with four dimensions called “the fabric of space-time.” I should like to know what this “fabric” is made from and how matter can be made to shape it?" some more gold from that ^ link.

would you rather live 20,000 absolutely fantabulously fulfilling days or 200,000 way-less-than-average & much to be desired ones.

What's the most depraved thing you have ever done?
LokStok replied to Halcyon Daze's topic in Chill Space
daily carrying on with my life while inwardly recoiling against the utter absurdity, irony, selfishness & contamination-on-a-petri-dish modus operandi of us as a species, and at the same time justifying the same to myself to a degree that enables me to continue carrying on with my life under these circumstances... ...and not devoting everything at my disposal to change this. oh yeah, and as a kid i squished, maimed & tortured my fair share of things too. -
tyvek for jar filters is way too thin. As per the mycosupply link that migraine thru up, about 1/16" is minimum. these days i just collect used p2 dust masks from .... , cut em into almost circles & stick em on with high heat industrial grade silicone. (this) and yeah 40% contam!!! you need to look closely at your whole series of maneuvers man. ps. ive found in the past, too thin a filter can work ok on a jar, until the first shake, then sometimes trich shows up. Ive surmised that spores settle on top of the filter and then are shaken in thru the too thin mesh, and bang!

foxes eat a shitload of baby rabbits & mice, tho i'd prefer to have none of those 3 to start with. i'd also prefer "extreme tree hugging hippy shit" over a lot of other stuff that is happening on this planet at the moment. -
ive been hanging out here for the last 14 years or so, the last 3 of them as a (re)member, and so far thunder, your about the closest thing to what i think makes up a shaman, according to what my conscious parameter-based boundary-rider extrapolations meld. to address your OP, only within those mostly rare spaces when for whatever reason or influence i am reminded to ask myself that question

Cold-climate plants, entheogens and ethnobotanicals

maralroot, cowslip, Polygala tenuifolia, Rock Samphire, Black & Blue Cohosh, Bloodroot to name a few, & look at many of the alpine & higher altitude Northern Asian. -
the last 2 pics look like very much like broad mite damage. they love glossy/smooth leaved plants like chilli, capsicum, sapote and... catha it seems. they are tiny, very hard to see with the naked eye, much much smaller than your common red/two spotted mites. Pretty hard to get rid of as they dont seem to be affected too much by pyrethrums/insecticidal soapmixes, spinosad neem etc. I think they are very sensitive to heat- something like submerging the foliage in 40degC for 15 mins kills all + eggs. (you'd need to research this for accuracy) Also i think Bifenthrin insecticides knock them but has to be every 3 days to break the cycle. ...or I could be completely off track, in which case i advise to follow tipz advice

What did you do in your sacred garden today?

is that a cm or so of water sitting in the rectangular container that your pot is sitting in (pic #1)? hard to be sure from the photo, but if it is, get it out of there. This will cause your soil to be sodden. Without drainage the roots will rot!. If you have to sit it in something, put the pot up on a block or half brick so that the drainage hole are not submerged and able to ... drain. -

Buddhism in most of SE Asia is really only Buddhist in name only. In places like Thailand, Lao, Cambodia & Myanmar its a big minestrone of occult, spirit worship, ancestral karma, Tao, Zen, superstition, capitalism, Pi, & allsorts of other ingredients. eg. Thai people never refer to their religion & ways as Buddhist, ever only "Thai Buddha". whats considered so sometimes even changes village to village. -
also ring around arborist business's in your area- see what they have booked in for pruning, felling, chipping. If you offer to meet them onsite & take away logs... The less they have to put thru their chipper, the better it is for them.

Mixing relaxation herbs - any tips/things to be wary of, or avoid?

well, you should just stick to your guns on that then, no matter what the cost. -

ok, so in the OP your talking about wanting sedation & sleep, but if if you want a herbal to deal with stress (baseline) perhaps look at a good adaptogen. ie. a strong Krishna Tulsi strain, grow it and make tea from the fresh leaves & flowers. -
thats actually way scarier to me than the ebola virus!

hard to say too much from this pic, but... the younger/new growth looks ok/not affected. keep in mind that this is a semi-desert plant and so is not going to go well in humid, wet conditions. you should have it in a sandy free draining mix & dont keep it constantly wet. (it looks very wet now) some more info would help. ie how long you have had it, inside or outside (& if inside, as it looks to be, whats the light source) etc.

Anyone growing this? I'm chasing a small amount of material for propagating. Trade, $ or shiny mirrors.
