xoma
Hi there cactipeople I've posted my TBM revert in the mutant thread before but i feel this topic deserves its own...right!? I've never heard of anyone before that their TBM has started to form columns that are growing "normal" like this: Has this happened to another TBM outthere? I'd love to see pictures! How do you see it's chances to ever flower? Have a nice day! Cheerio Xoma Edited July 14, 2016 by xoma

Evil Genius
Nice pics! Definitely interested to hear if this was the well known TBM (which is full monstrose) or one of the ones that can revert between monstrose and non-monstrose growth. But yeah, that´s always cool! The SINA clone definitely reverts back and forth sometimes. Edited July 15, 2016 by Evil Genius
2XB
Sina doesn't terminate like in pic #7 though does it?? Are there other bridgesii known to grow like that??
theuserformallyknownasd00d
Na not that mines ever done DB. I'm more talking about pics 5, 9, 10. Really early in pups, very similar spination etc but probably just similar environments. Sina gets FAT when in the ground and full sun

sagiXsagi
^^ I think DB refers to doubleben real TBMs do not revert IME I am also growing a couple TBMs cut from crests. Sure the reverts can and will flower if you let them reach some size melted wax and lotusland semi-monstrosas indeed terminate but I doubt they form penis. dont know sina, share more pics of this form you're saying... Thanks for the input...but I still do not understand. ^^ doubleben?? Do you wanna see more pics of mine or Sina? Whatever... I just took some recent pixs of mine.... :-) That's the same clone the revert formed from... This is the original plant where the revert formed: This is the cutting of the plant above: And one picture with both on it: Have a nice sunny weekend!! djmattz0r
Had a friend who found an old TBM for sale with a reverted section on it. He was kind enough to give me the reverted portion. Although I just checked on it and the recent rains rotted out the bottom. Edited July 29, 2016 by djmattz0r rot
sagiXsagi
^^^ I am betting its not the short clone B
djmattz0r
It actually was, he gave me the revert and a section of pups that are definitely short form. It's callousing now and not much to look at but here's a pic my friend took of the original cactus.
sagiXsagi
interesting. I wonder , if this flowers and is pollinated, will it carry the penis data or it will be like a regular bridgesii?
Change
Very interesting indeed I cant wait to see the babies that come from this
xoma
Well almost cant believe it but another pup is showing more then 3 aerols in a rib which is a sign for a revert in my book. Neat ay!?

Sallubrious
I got a TBM from an old guy who was a serial cactophile and it had grown from a garden variety bridgesii. He still had the large (7 ribbed) stump and it was pushing out monstrose pups when I got one from him.I was quite surprised to see a monstrose pup on a standard looking bridge stump but he wasn't too fussed by it, he said it just happens sometimes. I purchased a pup for about 5 bucks and it's remained monstrose since I've had it.So it seems some of the bridges (maybe the clone EG mentioned) have a foot in both camps and possibly epigenetic factors cause them to express different traits under different circumstances.
Kykeion
Interesting topic. I wasn't very convinced initially since the first photos xoma posted just look like a semi-monstrose bridge with greater penis tendencies than most. But seeing photos that show that the mother is a standard looking TBM I am more intrigued. I would guess that since it has reverted to a normal appearance that the reverts should be capable of flowering (assuming that TBMs truly can't/won't flower) since non-flowering trich crests are able to flower on reverted branches. Now what I am looking forward to is the crossing xoma's revert with djmattz0r's revert, both ways for good measure, and seeing if there is a high rate of freakishness in the offspring. Granted this may be difficult to quantify given that bridgesiis seem to be a bit more fluid with their freakyness (ie Zelly's observation that semi-monstrose individuals tend to go completely normal when planted in the ground; or that stress seems to trigger a bit of weirdness in some otherwise normal bridg specimens).
djmattz0r
I will definitely save some pollen if I get flowers in the future. I have high hopes for this other bridgesii I picked up labelled as semi-monstrose, looked like normal growth originally then put out a TBM like termination and is now putting out another normal looking growth.
Kykeion
Hmm interesting. It certainly appears to fit the "stress = freaky growth" observation with the base below the etiolation/scarring looking relatively normal.
