My cacti stopped spiking me , I think they must really like me to go that far

Yeah I noticed this happen too Thunderhorse, and know of atleast two other collectors who have experienced the same. It was after about 2 years of manic collecting and tending, I had become so used to getting spiked that it stopped hurting and just became a weird but normal sensation. I could even notice the tiniest little prick as I began to stand on one and could decrease the weight that would have pushed it right into my foot, and as a result even tho i was standing on them quite often I never seemed to get hurt anymore. I've also instinctively reached out to catch falling cacti a number of times now and not been hurt.. stabbed, yeah, but as long as it didn't snap off and came out on the same angle it didn't seem to be a worry. Maybe it's just heightened awareness of those particular sensations, and that somehow gradually relaxes your natural pain response because its not perceived as as much of a danger anymore.. Normalised.

    facebook name changes

I wonder how long it will take before someone capitalises on the space in the market for a social media platform which doesnt position data collection as the highest priority. Surely there are plenty of people who have left fb but still wish to have an easy system to keep in touch with globally dispersed friends and family without sacrificing any small iota of privacy which may be left available to us.

Have you seen any cool movies lately??

I recently watched The Outlaw Michael Howe... thought it was pretty damn awesome actually. great soundtrack, exceptionally beautiful scenery. very well done. "In 1815 a young convict leads a wretched guerrilla army of outlaws, deserters and bushmen in open rebellion against the morally corrupt government on the notorious prison Australian settlement of Van Diemen's Land. As their numbers grow by the day, Michael Howe's gang threaten to overrun the colony. An epic story of love and betrayal, The Outlaw Michael Howe will chronicle the astonishing true story of the man who pushed Australia to the brink of civil war." ...and this one probably belongs in the disturbing films thread, but it was still a pretty good watch, rather squirm-worthy and almost obscenely creepy at times but yeah.. humans are quite fucked up anyway so its no grand stretch of the imagination to conceive of such things being possible one day.. ANTIVIRAL "Syd March is an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate."
  7. What an excellent thread. Fantastic photos everyone, thanks for sharing. Australia sure has some incredibly beautiful landscapes. Heres few shots i've taken over this year

    The Random Thread.

"A fractal is a mathematical equation that may be represented by a pattern on a computer screen. Fractal geometry has a kind of ordered, inbuilt irregularity. A fractal iterates (repeats itself) and bifurcates (changes direction). A fractal is an infinite curve in a finite space. Can you think of yourself as a fractal? Can you see an image of an infinite curve in a finite space? Do you know that you are iterating and bifurcating? Fractal geometry is the geometry of change, and we are always changing. The point is to see your own patterns; psychotherapy helps you see your own patterns, using different techniques. You might draw a family tree and look for patterns there, or explore your health, work schedule, romantic or spiritual relationships to find your patterns. It can be tricky to find patterns because they are a little bit different each time, because the circumstances are often different and you yourself probably change between each cycle. These are your iterations and bifurcations as you, an infinite curve, curl and twist and spiral in the multi-dimensional yet finite space of your life. You are not the only fractal out there. Each of us is a fractal, and our finite space often overlaps." http://fractalplane.org/fractals.html

    absurd dreams

i have alwasy had very vivd and often very hard to understand dreams, but after cutting MJ out of my diet they have taken on a new ferocity. the one i had had this morning went like this: i was sitting on the steps outside my boyfriends house with my friend while she was having a cigarette, then all of a sudden the sky started to light up with multiple explosions and comets flying everywhere, then the sky literally caught fire. we ran inside to tell our boyfriends and they didnt believe us, said we were just trippin out. then i was instantly at my house and i knew something bad was about to happen. then a giant spaceship covered in weird sybols landed in my driveway and i knew they were coming for me. i didnt want to go with them and ran inside and locked the doors, then knowing my efforts at hiding were going to be useless i began saying my goodbyes to my boyfriend and my mum. then i went and locked myself in the bathroom. the alien had come inside, it was creeping along the hallway on all fours and then it was meowing at the door like my cat does when i go to the bathroom. i asked "is that you bog?" and it replied "i'm not tea bog" in a very cat like voice. i gave up and decided to go with the alien back to its ship. then as soon as i was in the ship it changed into a delivery truck and the alien changed into a gangly delivery boy, i was shocked and confused and asked him what was going on and he said that i had to come with him to the depo to collect a chord for the new laptop my dad had sent me. i would love to hear about anyone else's wacky dreams, and they are an endless source of wonder and confusion for me, i feel that they must mean something, otherwise my subconscious wouldn't have gone to the effort of creating such a scene for me. alot of my dreams involve aliens, often they are trying to kill me and they hunt me down, maybe i am just paranoid, but alot of the time things are just so irrational yet so significant that i just cannot dismiss them as mere mind gibberish.

Oh man... This is probably my worst dchiw ever! Dchiw when you make an amazing pizza, take one piece and put the rest back on the oven so it will stay warm.. Then 40 mins later go for another slice and realise the oven has been on 200 degrees that whole time and once delicious pizza is now burnt to a crisp and totally destroyed
  12. I dreamt this morning that I noticed these two little black stubs of metal poking out of my right knee. I didn't do anything about it at first, but then a bit later I sat down and pulled on one of these bits of metal, it started to wiggle loose, so I kept pulling and I extracted this 10cm long metal pin, which tapered smaller towards the other end and also became wavy instead of straight like the end I was tugging on. Then I extracted the other one too, and just sat there looking at these 2 black pins thinking 'what the fuck....' Interestingly I've always had pain in the right knee and its not sore today

What did you do in your sacred garden today?

Not sure what species you were after Frozenthunderbolt, but I got a nice passiflora edulis from the warehouse for under ten bucks. I live in a pretty darn cold part of nz and it has proven to be exceptionally tough, far exceeding my expectations. I think it has only survived because I have kept it very dry over winter, and its in a pretty sheltered position. But yeah. Check out the warewhare mate.
  14. Hav a geez at these two links.. I think you're brain is probably telling you exactly what you need - segmented sleep http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-16964783 ^ http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segmented_sleepThe theory being that we have evolved to sleep in two 3-4hr segments over the night with a period of wakefulness inbetween, and the rise of the industrial revolution introduced the norm of uninterrupted sleep to increase workers endurance and productivity.

  16. Awesome sounding dreams you have there! That last sentence is a very common experience, and can be combatted through "dream stabilisation" If you can, try looking at your hands, or rubbing your hands together and focus on calming yourself down when you realise its a dream. Other things that supposedly work are actually physically holding onto something, grounding yourself in the 'reality' of your dream. Apparently turning in a circle can help too. http://www.dreamviews.com/content/staying-lucid-26/ I personally dont often have lucid dreams to the extent that i can control them, but most of the time when i dream have a very tangible sense of the fact i am inside a dream, usually prompted by the recognition that the things that are occurring are just too strange to be a reality. I have had a few funny experiences where dream characters have tried to tell me i cant do something, and i have responded, well actually i can do whatever i like because this is my dream. that happened once and the dream character was so peeved at me he shed his character and revealed himself to be a monk, (the angriest monk ive come across) and dissolved my dream landscape into swathes of dark matter, trying to scare me awake. unfortunately the shock of such an occurance woke me up there have been two other rather startling experiences for me recently, the first terribly distressing, the second simply amazing.. in the first dream i was with a group of people who in the dream were my friends, although i didnt know any of them in real life, and someone gets a phonecall. the energy in the room changes significantly, and this person calls all the others over to talk with them. then the whole group approaches me, and informs me that i'm dead, and i was murdered a couple of days ago at the other end of the country. i protest, because i'm obviously alive, i'm there talking to them right now, but they wont accept my assertations and keep telling me i'm dead, and they are trying to comfort me and console me, encouraging me to accept my death. i refuse to accept this and get angrier and angrier at them until finally i realise that this must be a dream and i wake up feeling very fucking disturbed. the other strange and wonderful one was a dream where i was with a friend who is a qigong teacher and healer. i was talking shit. meaningless stuff. and then he reaches over and presses a finger firmly on the accupressure point 'yintang', just in between my eyebrows. i fall silent in the middle of a sentence, and then massive rushes of energy ripple outwards from this point on my head. as the energy spreads outwards i can physically feel the space outside of my body as the energy disperses outwards, rippling away, releasing mental tension and stored psychic fog which has dulled my conciousness for a long time. all the information you could possibly need to train yourself to lucid dream. tutorials, discussions, everything: http://www.dreamviews.com/content/

    Quotes of the day.

I wish neither to possess, Nor to be possessed. I no longer covet paradise, More important, I no longer fear hell. The medicine for my suffering I had within me from the very beginning, But I did not take it. My ailment came from within myself, But I did not observe it Until this moment. Now I see that I will never find the light Unless, like the candle, I am my own fuel, Consuming myself. - The Silent Flute, Bruce Lee

'Popping the question', ideas, advice, stories :)

I didn't wanna say it, but was thinking the same as incog. It takes a long time to really know someone. I'm personally biased against marriage but I have always thought the pagan 'hand-fasting' concept is pretty great. Basically it's the same as a marriage ceremony, a celebration of your love and commitment to each other, but you are making a commitment for one year and one day, and at the end of that time together you can either renew your commitment for another year and a day with another ceremony, or part ways if things haven't eventuated how you had envisioned. Anyways just an alternative thought, that's choice for you HD, she must be a real gem

    Rooting SD

I have heard that rooting them in brown beer bottles full of rain water works especially good, the brown glass diminishes the light that gets through and somehow thats meant to help. If you only have limited stock only put one cutting per bottle, that means if you get any rot develop it will only affect the one piece and not spread to the others... I think the hardiness of the parent plant plays a role. Plants that have acclimatised really well to your conditions will take pretty rough treatment without complaint, yet cuttings from a plant which is still pretty fussy seem to sulk no matter how lovingly you tend them. Ps: I think you're definately right Gtarman, re: certain plants liking or not liking certain people. That saying " you can choose your friends but you can't choose your family" ..I reckon that applies to plants too. Some seem inexplainably aligned to your core nature and others opposed to it.

    What is your newest addiction??

Qi gong! I was hooked from my first experience, and this new 'addiction' has so lovingly begun rewiring my perceptions that several other addictions have since faded in significance. The other biggie is this French supernatural drama 'Les Revenats' .... It's just too awesome. So spooky and classy and full of surprises. I churned through the first season in a matter of days and am now experiencing withdrawals, the lingering melodies of the soundtrack by Mogwai haunt me on the edge of sleep. Bring on season 2! http://youtu.be/5bv_5IBPVuo .. I have also grown rather fond of astrology, lately I've quite often been aware of certain emotional influxes and then looked up the astrological positions and the corresponding influences and found that everything I have been experiencing is succinctly described and explained.
