Halcyon Daze
Nice idea for a thread. You'd really want to cover the most basic things well.My top pic would be isolation from too many other humans. The last thing you want to hear when you wake up to the sound of birds in the morning after a journey through consciousness is the sound of traffic, roosters next door or ferals screaming at each other over who smoked the last ciggy etc.If you find a private natural place to start with, then just go with whatever nature has put in place for you to enjoy.Other than that, you can't go past bamboo for sooooo many things. And a place for a fire, how else will you warm your lentils in the days leading up to that epic shamanic experience?I could go on for hours with this thread. <___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_tongue.png Edited February 11, 2015 by Halcyon Daze
FancyPants
oh jeez oh jeez oh jeez. I've been constructing my perfect sanctuary in my mind for years in hope I'll one day see it to fruition. Just to touch on a few design/vibrational elements I'd love to somehow incorporate which you may or may not feel right for you:octagonal glasshouse, or failing that a pyramidal glasshouse as studio. greco-italiana villa type house with central courtyard with pond in the middle. A reinforced glass/perspex fishtank on the roof which falls down to the central courtyard pond, which then flows downward underneath the studio in a neat (but natural) rivulet, tumbling down haphazardly placed sandstone bush rocks down a gently sloping hill along which would be the "rainforest" section (aya vine, brugs, bobinsana, chacruna etc)I'd definitely love an ensuite/bathroom which opens to the outdoors. Wraparound floor-ceiling windows etc. Bamboo bamboo bamboo, the non-invasive, clumping kinds. So many to choose from. fire pit set within a small natural amphitheatre with recycled timber log seats.solar power everywhere possibleI always feel the near bottom of a gently sloping hill in subtropical regions are the closest to heaven on earth and can have amazing energy. Next to a beach? I'd die with happiness.always plenty of native plants for the ecosystem and encouraging wildlifeplenty mulchy areas for fungal growthas many different crystals as you like, anywhere you feel it's best. can't go wrong with even "plain ol'" quartz clusters in places where the energy should flow naturallyan open area for air to circulate and give breath to all parts of the house/propertythat's a huuuuge question, and hot damn imagining's just so much fun :DPinterest is a veritable pornhub for creative inspiration.

ThunderIdeal
Only the option of retreating somewhere stress free, secure and somewhat comfortable. FancyPants
plant mosquito-repelling plants or for your "session" space maybe make it enclosable with screening so that biting bugs don't get distracting, or at least I find them distracting. Citronella candles etc.If you've got a nature-walk area amongst trees, it may be advisable to have something of a path, or at least an easily enough recognisable way to navigate back to the homestead and not get lost in the bush in the middle of a voyage.comfortable matting to lay on. a washbasin and possibly outdoor shower for any purging mess. In that regard, having a session area that's relatively easy to clean (hose down) would make sense to me. Perhaps for group sessions, having a mosquito net hung from hula hoops hung from the ceiling over individual mats may also give a little extra privacy when needed. First aid kit, medical and spiritual, easily available. Plastic cups/no glass in case of accidental breakages. Fresh water easily available.Towels, blankets, cushions. spare socks etc."Grounding" items such as teddy bears etc. Textured rugs etc. Maybe ask participants to bring something of their own which means something to them?Depending how it's all set out, personally I'd aim for lighting which points downward unless feature-lighting certain things (special trees, scultpures, etc). Because otherwiise light pollution from upward-pointing lights can drown out the ineffable beauty of the night sky.ART/CRAFT SUPPLIES. 'nuff said. Also maybe particular music making items (if it suits the vibes and is respectful of others etc). Or at least notebooks and a pencil for each participant. Some people like wind chimes, some don't and find it a distractionMaybe anything I suggest isn't suitable. I've never done a group aya session with a "leader" or shaman/curandero/etc (have dreamt of it for YEARS though in case you couldn't tell lol). Will you be facilitating groups yourself? Or is this for private personal reasons? Do you have experience facilitating groups? Keep in mind the responsibility placed for those in your care. Nobody wants another tragedy happening like that young man at an aya retreat where he was sent out into the rainforest with a supposedly ill-advised admixture brew in his system. I'm making no judgements I wasn't there and we all know what misinformation and mistakes can do to such "niche" communities.
Getafix
Only the option of retreat in somewhere stress free, secure and somewhat comfortable. For me stress free in the strictest sense means away from others.Agreed.I would want the place to myself or obviously the more feasible option of being able to get away from everyone and come back when I felt ready.Trees both small and large of various conformation and the absolute option to be able to find solitary places would be my key points.Getafix Edited February 13, 2015 by Getafix

Amazonian
Adding to the great recommendations above... I would have to say koi in the ponds, and bright flowers like frangipani, hibiscus, heliconia, magnolia, jasmine etc... Some of which are chosen for their scent. The skys the limit really, where do you stop. You could have fruit trees /berries/ grapes etc...
Fenris
Some standing stones incorporated into an astronomical calendar mapping things like solstices and equinoxes at sunrise & sunset. It would be really easy to do with some astronomical software and a good compass, some big stones and a bobcat.
