Xperiment Posted September 30, 2020 Ok I have one only Acacia courtii seedling to give away. Post a sequential number, and a pic of an acacia you have grown, preferably from seed. I would prefer this little one goes to someone with some experience growing acacia, to know that it will be looked after. The seed was given away here by @communacacian for wattle day 2 years ago (holy shit time flies) Approx 25-30cm tall. Postage covered by me, not to WA or Tas due to plant quarantine restrictions. Australia only. The winner will be chosen by random number generator at about 8pm on Wednesday 7th October Pics when I get home from work 6

Micromegas Posted October 1, 2020 holy cowabunga, nice acacias, yours look almost wild (in the superlative but also the wild-natural sense) niggles. Lovely weeping habit. @ notherner, I had a few out in the open like that, specimen trees. if you want to, you can cut off the lower branches and try to get it to grow up with single tall big trunk as a central feature. Maidenii and acuminata are good for this. But they look sweet as anyway.

Flux Posted November 14, 2020 Nice One @SayN - and kudos Xperiment for giving away such aught after trees. I'm just about to repot my oldest Courtii today ...also noticed a pair of flower buds on it a few weeks ago too. I reckon there should be a decent amount of domestic Courtii seed appearing early next year too -as the first round of Courti's that Rowan and Julian Palmer distributed in 2016 bear fruit

Pedro99 Posted January 1, 2021 (edited) Hey I don't want to hijack this thread but didn't want to make a new one so hope it's OK. I have 5 courtii that are maybe a year and a half old. I had 9 but 4 died along the way.. It seems I don't really know what I'm doing with a lot of natives, or they're just sensitive. The 4 that I have look pretty bad, brown curled leaves, I don't know if they will come back.. They started looking sick after 3 or 4 solid days of rain, I'm wondering do they hate sitting in wet soil? Or could it be an over release of fertiliser caused by excess rain? I'll get a pic in a minute. Edited January 1, 2021 by Pedro99 Addedpics
mr b.caapi Posted January 1, 2021 Natives dont like chemical / manufactured fertilizers, specifically ones that are high in phosphorous. If there was a chance that these were exposed to that kind of fertilizer due to "run off" then i'd say this is your issue.
Pedro99 Posted January 1, 2021 (edited) I think I hit it with either blood and bone or Charlie carp without thinking.. Organic but maybe too high in phos. Blood and bone was powdered so possibly the rain soaked it in. Dammit. Thanks for the info mr caapi! Have to chase some seeds again and try not to mess it up next time. mr b.caapi Posted January 1, 2021 Yeh, sorry to see that mate. I think blood and bone on natives is actually ok in small amounts but my general rule with natives is dont fertilize them at all.
Flux Posted March 9, 2021 Sadly, it looks well dead Pedro99 I've had a couple do this and its almost always been under-watering (and unexpectedly hot days) each time ...but given you've had the opposite conditions with rain, perhaps it is over-watered and also I would think that 3-4 days of rain would possibly wash out any fertiliser (but then again maybe not if its sitting in it). I've always been told that they don't like their feet in water and can get root-rot if left on a tray to absorb water
