Jox
Very busy mate, yeah there the 62mm pots I am getting them of a bloke in Brisbane, 200 pots for $50. I saw him last week & have already used the pots, looks like I am going to have to go for another drive, the good thing is when I meet the bloke last week & told him about my cacti passion he gave me a pack of golden barrel cactus seeds fresh of his big plant . I was also using them for raising seed but was not having as good germination rates as I do with the takeaway container so I have gone back to them, I think they were drying out to quick with my set up.CheersJox
GoOnThen
Jox if you want pots cheap buy from this company http://www.gardencityplastics.com/ you have to buy by the carton but it is worth it in the money you will save in the long run. This is the pots that I have bought http://www.gardencityplastics.com/GrowersPots/SpecializedSquatPots/P63SSQ# they are actually 63mm. They come in a carton of 768 pieces and I paid $120.00 for the carton.I also buy 50mm square tubes http://www.gardencityplastics.com/Propagation/SquareTubes/T50SSQ# for pere graft stock295 x 350 trays http://www.gardencityplastics.com/Trays/CarryTrays/TRHG# for pere grafts I use capillary matting in the bottom ( they fit 30 x 50mm tubes per tray)295 x 350 seedling trays http://www.gardencityplastics.com/Trays/SeedlingPunnetTrays/TRS349X# most of my other cacti are in these so I can bottom water a tray at a time. This has reduced my watering times buy large amounts as I used to dunk each pot individually. These also fit into the trays so I can also water from the top on my shelves without any problems. Most of my other slow growers are in these 85mm square http://www.gardencityplastics.com/GrowersPots/SquarePots/P85SS# I can fit 20 per tray. And of course labels http://www.gardencityplastics.com/Accessories/PlantLabels/LB85#All of the above are only sold by the carton except the trays which I think were in lots of 10 but if you are using a lot of pots or you can go halves with someone it is definitely worth buying in bulk.I got a new phone the other day so I thought I would see what the camera was like Jox crossesAssorted Astro'sCheersGot

Jox
Here is an update on my seedlings .They were sowed 10 months & 3 days ago, I am stoked with the growth rate of all of my seedlings this year & think the advantages of growing them under a 600watt MH light through winter are obvious. They are now back out in the greenhouse enjoying the very hot start to spring.Stillman's A.Super Kabuto X A. asterias ( which I have been calling the opposite through out this thread, sorry) are going very nice & have all got different spots & characteristics making each one an individual, I have put a group together showing how different each one is. They are still growing quickly even out doors, still no weirdness showing in any of them & I would say it is the peres graft messing with them. One of the ACM has started to get much thicker in the last few weeks also.@ Ceres, I noticed you saying that you throw out the arms of your ACM if they come off. If they are still plump enough & have an areole or glochid you can graft it, this is apparently quite easy & how many people propagate them. I have just tried doing this today with an arm that got knocked off, I will let you know how it goes .CheersJox
bogfrog
My ACM died sadly Jox, But thats really cool! I had heard you can re-grow them from the areoles from another source too, wish I'd known that a year ago tho hehe.I wonder how long it will be before yours start to form the caudex at the base. They are a pretty incredible plant!- Your seed grown Astros are looking very good btw, excellent work.

hostilis
Here's my only mature astrophytum at the moment. My buddy that has a nursery in thailand is sending me some more though. They will be here soon (super stoked!) I also started some japanese hybrid mixed and koehres kaktus mix seeds too. Those should be big enough to graft here in a few weeks. Here's the picture. The one with the curvy ribs is a Malaysian cultivar (not sure of the name) I like it though, the other one, I'm not really sure what cultivar it is. AZS
I grew these from seed a few years ago - neglected them but they still survived. These have always been outside under 30% shade cloth. They flowered aftertwo years from seed. Last year I pollinated two of my largest Asterias(one of them is in the photo below) and got about 50 seeds per fruit!I recently purchased some seeds of red flowering one's and hope to expand my collection.

afungitobewith
I picked up some of those seeds. I have them going now but they are solid green at this point. The new growth has orange and yellow to the edges and one is more pink. But no solid patches yet. Still small though. Maybe when they get larger the colors will start to show more I hope. If not maybe in the next couple generations or something.
