GoOnThen Posted September 25, 2012 My loph's that are on there own roots have only just plumped up in the last couple of weeks ( one flowered ) and they are under lights. What I did notice was the temps had averaged around 30 to 35 for a couple of weeks on my shelves ( under lights) and most of the cacti have woken up. The problem now is we are having shit weather again and the temps are back down to around 25 deg Roll on summer I am so over this cold weather. Horus Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) I always spread a bit of cow manure around my Cacti the start of spring. I have potted up the tip cuttings for this season. And repotted all the gifts given to me by members at meets Then I thought I would take some Cactus Pron to share in this thread. Cactus sunning themselves by the pool And Just admiring my cactus like I do everyday Then I usually spend time getting out the couple of thorns you seem to always get.in your hand from weeding Edited September 25, 2012 by colhawk
turtle_hermit Posted September 27, 2012 one of the most god-damned sexy trich cuttings I have ever seen compliments of deadstar That kind of hype and no pics??? Also thought cacti wouldn't like all the N in blood meal, do you use it a lot?

I like chookie poo with some lime. The only way id use it is deepish in the soil so the critters cant smell it out. Even storing bags of it on my verandah ive found a mess in the morning from something that has eaten some of it and spread the rest around. good to hear it worked for you. Ethos Posted September 27, 2012 Chook poo has been working wonders on my cactus bed, in the last week I have noticed two pachanoi's pupping one pup has 8 ribs or so and a basasl pup is emerging from a TBM. I need to move my cactus in to a spot where they recieve full sun though I am starting to notice most of my cactus looking skinny compared to what I see here on SAB
Mr. Bowser Posted September 29, 2012 Planted some Trich seeds from SS and started my first seedling grow log! T. Peru 'Los Gentiles' (95) T. Bridge SS02 x T. sp 'Serra Canyon' (53) T. Peru 'Serra Blue' x T. Bridge SS02 (122) T. Peru SS01 x T. Bridge SS02 (41) T. Bridge SS02 x T. Peru SS01 (93) Each seed pack was supposed to have 30 to 70 seeds... but they averaged a very generous 80/pack! I love SS!!!
gtarman Posted September 29, 2012 (edited) A couple days late...but I did my first takeaway tek the other day on some Astrophytus.I wrapped the containers with white plastic bags to filter the intensity of the sunlight and placed them in a very sunny position. Now I'm waiting. I think I'm going to peek in there in a month or so and see what's transpired? Edited May 13, 2013 by gtarman
Evil Genius Posted September 29, 2012 (edited) It isnt really ideal to leave takeaway tek-containers unchecked for that long. If you get a fungal infection or cobweb, you´ll end up losing 90% of the seedlings within one week or so. In fact, you should open them every few days minimum to exchange the air. When i sow out, i control them every day. Edited September 29, 2012 by Evil Genius
Horus Posted September 29, 2012 I took a bunch of Cactus, Euphobia, aloe and a seed grown Dragons Blood round to a friends new house and put in a garden out the front. She wants that Tex Mex feel that goes with the rendered house. So now the feature plants are in she can do some edging, ground covers etc Its ridiculous isnt it......if the new laws come in around psycoactive cactus, my gift will have turned her into a criminal. bogfrog Posted September 29, 2012 (edited) Yeah gtarman, as EG just said, thats really not advisable. You also need to ensure they have sufficient moisture during germination, if you let them dry out too much then or soon after they would most likely be dead before the month is over. Its ideal to check on them every few days. Edit, thats nice of you colhawk, i wish my friends wanted cacti gardens. They just want the benefits of me having cacti. PhoenixSon Posted September 30, 2012 acquired some more bread trays for my cactus. They make it easy to move crapload's of seedlings @ once. potted some up, and sorted them into their seed grown groups. Intresting to see the difference in the plants from the same cross. gtarman Posted September 30, 2012 Thanks guys. I just checked them..although I wasn't sure what to be looking for. I was kinda shocked to see that a couple had actually germinated though, after about 5 days! I was told that would take ages. The little seedlings were red though so too much light I think...moved them from full sun to what should be partial shade (hard to tell when it's cloudy...I really should draw up a shade map of my garden). I didn't know my housemate and his gf were on the porch though, so I was doing my usual crazy babbling to self, and I think they think I'm kinda nuts now. It would probably help if I wasn't
Nemisty Posted September 30, 2012 Had a look at my big ugly scop and counted five flower buds! Hopefully someone else out there has some scop flower buds developing too cause I'm super keen for some pure scopulicola seed. Even if that means attempting the self pollination method with cement. Repotted my other little scop into some better soil so I didnt have to continue feeding it, easiest repot EVER! Got away with no punctured fingers. Gave the rest of the pack a water and some blood and bone.
