Punkins are great to eat, but pumkins seeds are a good snack.

Save the seeds and fry in oil.

My wrinkled butternuts are coming along nicely, but at only 20kg per plant, I won't be winning this. I will, however, be laughing when I'm eating a nice bowl of pumpkin soup while the winner is dealing with 200kg of rotting pumpkin in their yard.

nice looking seedling there Jonstn....

Cheers mate, it's overdue for going outside but seems to be doing alright.

BL about one dying, I think my other one might be heading that way too.

Not sure what the hell I'm going to do after its finished still haha, probably carve it into something then get some pics, but once I'm over it then it'll be bad times!

Could you use it to make pumpkin spirits? Assuming you had access to a still. I'm guessing it wouldn't taste too pumpkiny as it's pretty much tasteless?

Good stuff GOT :)

Got a pic of one that's outside today, it's a lot shorter than the one in the box but it seems to be going ok apart from a shrivelled up leaf:

You know what its like for blokes its all about sowing the seed.

But if by chance you seed germinates you tend their every whim

Then put a heap of time into nurturing them so that they grow big and strong

And then when the are grown all grown up you ether want to keep cuddling them or chop them up and bury it the compost.:P

Cheers

Students hit big time with pumpkins

A group of school students in north Queensland say they have grown the state's largest batch of giant pumpkins.

The students and teachers at Clare State School in the Burdekin specially ordered the giant pumpkin seeds from America earlier this year.

It has taken them three months to grow the batch of about 50 oversized vegetables.

School principal Dan Broadfoot says the pumpkins weigh about 70 kilograms each.

They have been grown on separate properties and will be weighed at a community event this weekend.

"I'm guessing that they're going to have to bring them along in the back of their utes," Mr Broadfoot said.

"Some of them have got them on their own farms and some have them growing on plots behind their house."

He says the primary school wanted to celebrate the region's agricultural heritage.

The weigh-in will be followed by a pumpkin carving competition in time for Halloween on Monday.

"Everyone's keeping quite hush-hush about it," Mr Broadfoot said.

"It's going to be quite a competition."

I thought that was a culinary distinction, no?

Fruit is what they're called in horticulture.

Vegetable is what they're called in the kitchen.

I lightheartedly argued with someone earlier in the week that pumpkin, not only is a fruit, but is classified as a berry.

You can always sell the seeds. Some seeds get sold for 1000's. I found this.......

"Jim Bryson and his daughter Kelsey of Canada grew the record-setting, 1,818-pound pumpkin over the summer. They brought it to the New York Botanical Garden this past weekend, where it was carved up. One of the seeds recently sold at auction for $1,500."
