( if that is even possible!).Maybe its been a while since i have seen a string of your images, but , WOW, your photos are MIND BLOWING. Thanks! Yes they have gotten better because I have switched to shooting in RAW format. It allows for greater post-processing control, especially with colour/tone and shadow/highlight detail. I also use a tripod!
Distracted Posted May 20, 2011 Holy shit, those are much improved from last years and last years were amazing! Some of those shots expose more detail than can be seen with the naked eye, very impressive! Are the butts of the mycena bruising blue, or are they infected by another mushroom, or what? OR maybe they're normally blue?
Lord Mayonnaise Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) Are the butts of the mycena bruising blue, or are they infected by another mushroom, or what? OR maybe they're normally blue? They're just blue. There's a few recorded finds in AU & NZ and similar around the world. There's a comprehensive Australian Mycena book but it costs around $100! I'm pretty sure it would be describe in there. Edit: maybe Mycena subcaerulea or M. amicta. Edited May 20, 2011 by Lord Mayonnaise
Shroom-Aura Posted May 20, 2011 sweet photos. also would be interesting to know what species of Panaeolina you have there
Lord Mayonnaise Posted May 20, 2011 Oh I think it's actually a Psythyrella sp. and not Panaeolina.

NSF Posted May 20, 2011 LM...wow. It is amazing the difference RAW and a tripod makes! Are you unsharp masking in photoshop? I thoroughly enjoyed your last photos but these are some of the best i've seen! Did i mention previously that you should contact (google) Alison Pouliot and then ask to see her online archives. Although i think you are now bettering her. The time you take to find various species, the time you take to compose your photos and then the time taken to classify them. These posts are a true gift. Thank you so much!
Marcel Posted May 21, 2011 I've been waiting for the Mayo photo spread, but I didn't expect it to come so soon. How wonderful! Great stuff! Are you using a dedicated macro lens or do you use macro extension tubes? Your photos have inspired me to invest in something that'll get my lens closer to the subject. Thanks for the effort! Alice Posted May 21, 2011 The composition of quite a number of these pictures is fucking SUPERB. You have an excellent eye. So many new desktop backgrounds
Khala Posted May 21, 2011 Spectacular man, truly amazing. I saw some big beautiful specimens yesterday in a national park but I wouldn't remove them from there, so I couldn't take the time to do proper ID's. Big nice Amanita sp. though. Fungi is amazing even if it isn't of the illegal variety

unco_elf Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) First of all, seriously lush pics dude. Was just wondering about the bluing at the bottom of the mycena sp. stem. I have seen them all over pine forrests near oberon. But was always sus as the stem is not brusing blue or blue juice, its just on the outside. Sorry to be soo noob, but are they active? peace Edited March 8, 2012 by unco_elf
