Are you sure that Hobbit trailer is real? I noticed more than a couple of scenes that are actually straight out of the original movies.. It's also a rubbish trailer...

I don't think the US/NATO will intervene militarily in Syria... they got burned in Libya and there's not enough money or political capital to support a US war in Syria. And even if there was, China/Russia wouldn't enter into the war on the side of the Syrian govt. Pissing off Iran would be the bigger problem.
  6. I'm guessing the reason the police can't say whether or not there is a note is a deliberate tactic to make the 'bomber' think that the police haven't read it yet. If you're the bomber and you still think there's a chance that your demands might be met, then you won't detonate the bomb. The longer the police say they haven't gotten around to even reading the note, the more time they can buy. The police spokesman just mentioned that two 'negotiators' were in the room. I wonder if that means that the bomber dude is in touch on the phone.. ... so sad... poor girl P.S. 7Baz you always smell something suss...

    Theory of multiple discovery

You're missing the point of a published study... the whole point is they write up precisely what they did and how they did it, so that anyone else can try and repeat the study and see if they get the same results. Before a paper is published, it is also reviewed by a panel of different experts in the field, who look for obvious mistakes or biases, and who will refuse to publish it if they think it's flawed. You can do the experiments yourself, and if you're interested in the field, you probably should. And try it with slightly different variables if you like to try and prove the original study right or wrong. If you can prove the study is flawed, then your experiment will probably get published as well. And then someone else might look again and do another experiment to see why they're different... and so on, and so on, and that's how scientific knowledge is made. The whole 'subjective experience cannot know truth' argument really has nothing to do with this.
  9. by the way... funny moment at 4:21+ watching the guy in the black top trying to do "1.. 1.. 2, 3, 5" with his fingers at the end.. AHAHA LOL
  10. I liked it.. I did. I found the whole sermon and scripture angle a bit weird. A bit contradictory to the whole message... But maybe he was being purposefully ironic? He seems a pretty smart bloke, I think he probably was. Great video, thanks for posting.

fair enough if it's comfy it's comfy! nice work mate. It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again! At least he gives them a gamecube... he's a pretty nice hostage-taker.

That looks like bin Laden's games room... If that mat faces North he could even play Goldeneye while praising Allah! You're not really bin Laden are you EG?
  13. People ask me about the goldilocks principle a lot and I don't get what people are so amazed about? Of course it's not a 'coincidence'. I don't know how to explain it better than this sentence, but it just makes complete sense to me... how does anyone not 'get' it? It seems to me that there are a couple of real options to explain the goldilocks principle. 1. Our universe lives in a multiverse. Every 'big bang' is a new universe forming... Some big bangs create stable universes that survive for a period, others never get going in the first place or implode shortly after exploding. We are just one of a gazillion parallel universes, and we're one of the ones that had the right numbers to ensure the stability and just enough complexity to make complex life possible. (I say 'complex' life here, because I don't believe that life is a miracle, but merely a measure of complexity. I think Microsoft Windows Operating System is just as 'alive' as we are. We are all machines in a sense.) 2. This current universe is just one iteration of a cycle that has been going on for eternity... every time there is a big bang there is a new set of numbers flung out.. in all the ones where the physics didn't quite work, the universe implodes back in on itself and explodes again, setting out a new set of numbers. The process continues for eternity, until, eventually, a set of physical laws is created that 'works', where the universe continues to exist and be stable, and potentially, stable enough with all the right elements to create a universe like this one. Both theories are very similar to the theory of evoltion. Basically for something to exist, it has to have attributes that make it possible to continue existence. All the universes that couldn't survive and be stable, 'died', or never started. All the universes that have survived, did so because they had Physical systems that promoted BOTH stability and complexity. This universe (our universe) is one example of these successful universes. In fact I believe that evolution - the formula that creates existence, is the only creative force in the universe. 'Creation' itself is an illusion. NOTHING is created, or destroyed, it merely changes form.

This is great! But having keyboard on your lap must be a real pain... I wonder can you build an extendable arm or an extendable shelf (on a slight angle to make it comfortable) for the keyboard and mouse? It would be tricky hammering away at the keys so it would have to be very stable and not bounce around in the air when you're typing. Maybe something like those little wheel-around tables you get in hospitals. Except with a benchtop that has an adjustable angle so you can still type at 90 degrees to the direction of your body. Or I know! a flap down one that's attached to your arm-rest. Like they have in old uni lecture halls (if you know what I mean).

Well libel is suing for damages done because someone's said something about you that can be proven to be untrue. 1. Prospective employers don't give you reasons for not employing you, they just don't ring you back. 2. Current employers will usually have you sign something in your contract that states that you can be fired if you commit an offence. So the mere occurrance of the charge would be enough in most cases for you to potentially lose your job. So in the situations that really matter, just the assumptions are enough to badly impact your life... Noone needs to say anything bad about you, they just point to the offence and chuck your application in the bin.
