Slybacon Posted December 7, 2009 Where can one find a list of the banned books in australia. Are they illegal to posses or just to sell them commercially and import them?
Rabelais Posted December 7, 2009 Search the website of the Office for Film and Literature Classification. http://www.oflc.gov.au/www/cob/classification.nsf/Page/Home I believe what you are referring to is material which is 'refused classification' - a muddy mess. Alchemica Posted February 6, 2010 Would all peer-reviewed journals be beyond censorship and RC classification (except those directly related to an illicit synthesis)? Seems like it could be a decent way to preserve an active community of ethnobotany/shamanism/pharmacology and harm minimisation etc. by building up an all-welcome-community citeulike.org library. Allows everyone to add their own notes, what they are reading, edit, peer-review, share thoughts, easy searching and all that. The journals have always been there for "academics", would a public library serve to protect access to real science and information when the internet becomes filtered? Guess there would have to be no direct reference to the consumption of illicit substances outside approved research etc but what other things would be an issue? kadakuda Posted February 7, 2010 Australia actually bans books? has it always been like this? what happens if your caught with a book, can you go to jail? craziness....reminds me of a couple movies.
faustus Posted February 8, 2010 certain books may be banned in australia, but surely if you order from amazon you'd be able to get them through with no problem??? i've ordered a bunch of books from amazon, never has the package been opened by customs. ThunderIdeal Posted February 14, 2010 i know most of you guys want to support publishers/authors/etc, but yes from what i've gathered on this forum you can go to jail for possessing books to do with the use of drugs much less manufacture. T or somebody might have said enforcement aren't very pro-active about this, i'm guessing a cook found with a book is definitely going to have one additional charge to deal with though. it's still risky. i would suggest ebooks, safely encrypted. there are bazillions of ebooks. you can download more in a single torrent than you would ever read. dworx Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) So we start an encrypted library? of book torrents? list said torrents or ebook files with password please!! Edited February 14, 2010 by dworx
Slybacon Posted February 14, 2010 I think i have read that most encryption programs are banned in australia. I think there are only a few that are legal and you can bet your arse that those are the ones they can un encrypt. I'll hunt around and see if i can find some information regarding this. ThunderIdeal Posted February 14, 2010 install software, encrypt library, uninstall software. install software, refer to library, uninstall software.
ergoamide Posted February 15, 2010 Unless you've backed up your encryption key thunder your gonna end up losing all your data you've painstakingly downloaded because you can't unencrypt it without the right key and you can't make a duplicate once it's gone. ThunderIdeal Posted February 15, 2010 Unless you've backed up your encryption key thunder your gonna end up losing all your data you've painstakingly downloaded because you can't unencrypt it without the right key and you can't make a duplicate once it's gone. just encrypt with a big-arse password instead of a key. maybe not all software has this option, but the software i've heard about does. Torsten Posted February 15, 2010 folks need to be reminded that if you have encrypted data on your computer and the authorities have 'probable cause' to believe that this data contains drug manufacturing instructions [and some other illegal content] you can be forced to reveal your password. Failure to do so can get you maximums of between 7 and 15 years jail depending on which state you are in. Encryption is not as safe as many of you might assume. in fact it just gives people a false sense of security.
ThunderIdeal Posted February 15, 2010 for the sake of argument (because i have no idea how these cases work out in the real world) encrypted volumes can have two keys. one leads to the real, "hidden" volumes. you can reveal a password to the "fake" or "outer" volume. in theory, if this is ALL they have to go by, you reveal your password and they can't prove dick. however it's reasonable to believe that even if they can't access your encrypted volume, they can probably salvage all kinds of scraps elsewhere. this is where programs like ccleaner come in (mopping up these bits of evidence windows places here, there and everywhere) but again i don't know how it all works out in the real world. Hendry Posted February 15, 2010 Australia actually bans books? has it always been like this? what happens if your caught with a book, can you go to jail? craziness....reminds me of a couple movies. That's what I said when my australian cousin told me they did. Not only books , 75 video games and the internet will soon be censored. Think they need a bill of rights? No need to download the books just use a good proxy and read em online @ scribd

cokemachine Posted February 17, 2010 unfortunately not, as well as what has been mentioned, material of women with small boobs is being banned as it causes people to become pedofiles, and it appears the female orgasm is also frowned upon as 'squirting' (female orgasm) is considered an obscene act and also receives the NC rating. There was also a case recently where somebody was sentenced to jail for having nothing more than "the simpsons" porn... cartoon pictures. an internet web host was recently threatened with fines for hosting, get this..... a forum where somebody had posted a link in a comment. the link was to another page not hosted by them which also had a link on it which was linked to abortiontv.com an anti abortion group (if i remember correctly) where will it end? a link to a link to a link to a link to a picture of a young lady having an orgasm (which the classification board seems to think is not a natural phenomena btw) can result in heavy fines for site hosts whilst anybody who actually prefers women with small breasts (there are lots of us) gets locked up for having pictures of flat chested women on there pc's..? I cant believe aussie women aren't up in arms over the discrimination being shown here. If this happened in some other countries there would be riots in the streets, are Australians too scared of being labeled kiddie fiddlers for protesting about the upcoming clean feed censorship wank? or are they just lazy? if its the former australians need to grow some balls, if its the latter, then they deserve everything they get. i hope they enjoy seeing the wiggles videos on youtube because there wont be much else to look at. i presume this forum wont be around from the gittgo. at this point any Australians who haven't written to stephen conroy at least once (preferably more than once) to educate him on how far up his own arse his head seems to be please give each other a big pat on the head with a piece of 2 by 4 or the closest brick you can find. Job well done guys! with that being said, my rant for the day is over. thanks for listening
bℓσωηG Posted February 17, 2010 There was also a case recently where somebody was sentenced to jail for having nothing more than "the simpsons" porn... cartoon pictures. WTF? farkn hell what sort of dismal world do the "leaders" invisage? love me a bit of simpson porn the least i could do was send off a petition with a dozen or so signatures , if you still havent signed a petition against the censorship , you may want to still find at http://www.thecrowhouse.com/savethenet.html , print, gather sigs, send .....at least we tried.. tripsis Posted February 17, 2010 are Australians too scared of being labeled kiddie fiddlers for protesting about the upcoming clean feed censorship wank? That's exactly what the government has been aiming for by putting this whole censorship deal under the guise on protecting kids from paedophiles. Anyone that speaks up against it is then suddenly defending the paedos, something which no one would want. It's both cunning and sickening.

dworx Posted February 19, 2010 I think Tripsis nailed it, it is all under the guise of something and really it is about uneducating [dumbing down] the people - cos' we might see whats really going on if they don't. Look at the education system, In two terms my daughter did two pages of maths, fuck that by her age I knew multiplication division etc not now, they're are just not teaching kids anything, rather our kids are their property and they are making sure they know where their property is! Don't truant we need to know where you are!. FTG DW
