I stopped posting at the nook for a year because they banned teotz and wouldn't let him back in (after promising to). To me, SAB was just his "second home" we took him in because nobody else would and spent a long time essentially putting up with his junk until it became didactic. For the amount of abuse I copped from nookers in private (even admins who were supposedly my friends) for sticking up for teotz in that case, it's really ironic to me that Tort should cop any shit for banning him here after such a long time of trying to integrate him into the forums in a way everyone could appreciate and he could still be himself.

As for baphomet, I'm really confused because all I seem to remember in the lead up to his banning, was Hunab getting shitty at him and telling him to fuck off? There was a thread about baph asking should he be banned, I said no at the time because it was obvious baph had some interesting stuff to contribute. Unfortunately it became apparent he had no interest in sharing his knowledge (isn't that what this place is supposed to be for?) so I have no issues in seeing him go.

Personally I like people who are controversial, who question everything, confrontational, instigators of free speech and thought, radicals, anarchists, provocative, fearless or even trouble makers...at least they are true to their convictions, you always know where you are with brutal honesty.

So why don't you join an anarchist forum or some shit and leave us to our knitting?

The question is, where are these people now? We have seen them come and go in their hundreds. Do they leave a meaningful contribution? Do they lave anything worthwhile behind? Can I go back in 6 months from now and look for threads and expect to see useful data remaining from members like teotz or baph? If not, is there really any problem? This isn't a chat room, or a forum like 4chan where anything about anything goes. We have some facilities like those but they are supposed to be for contributing members to take advantage of and keep a social aspect about the forum.

Personally, I've never experienced any elitism on this forum. Ever. Have been accused of it plenty of times. Maybe it's true. I'd like to think if people had that sort of complaint about me (or any other member) they would try and take it up and resolve it rather than letting it fester into anything divisive. Too late for that now ay?

i would like to see this forum be less of a boy's club. i think there's nothing sexier than an ethnobotany chick  but i don't think anyone here can complain about too few girls frequenting the forums when we're posting pics of chicks fucking thorny cacti. so please keep the locker room talk to a bare minimum!

the issue of freedom of speech is an interesting one and i'm definitely guilty of inconsistency and hypocrisy. as much as i believe that freedom of speech also includes the right to offend, i don't like the way in which someone's negativity (baphomet being a great example) can damage a forum in a very brief amount of time. should someone be able to make nasty post after nasty post, alienate members and essentially contribute to the unravelling of a forum so as we can uphold some quixotic notion of freedom of speech? sometimes yes, sometimes no. that's not my choice. all i know is that i come to these forums to relax and share ideas with people. but when the vibe is hostile, it's harder for me to zen the fuck out and i don't visit as frequently.

i started the baph thread and most certainly did not ask if he should be banned.

i saw it as a reveiw of his input and pointed out his lack of openness.

he seemed just here for an argument....a disruptive influence!

at least one member had commented he was reluctant to post in a thread in which baph had inserted himself [often taking threads off topic].

baph seemed to disappear at the time and made no input to the thread.

i was quite happy with the thread feeling that it made the situation public without any [mod] action.

but baph continued on his merry way and got banned.

That some righteous radical shee-at right they-are!

And after immediately applying some unconscious frameworking of effective communicational equations

that unfurl hostilities, like a fern fronds obscene entry into its world

a new paradigm for co-creating culture can begin, and represent with elegant mastery

the culminations of its path. For plants and animals and planet.

Now, you've got moments in message boards that make them or moments that fragment into selfish ownership of 1 single ideas. Regardless of growing through communication, the quicker a person becomes in evaluating opportunities to learn, the quicker they can grow from that learning.

Can't we?

Faustus, you would be surprised how many girls we have here. But like you said, it's a boys club and this creates a climate where the girls feel it wise not to out themselves.

As far as the porn goes, I think the fact we have aat least a couple of twisted queers here :bootyshake: tends to keep the gender nakedness in balance. Probably not quite what you meant, but seriously, I doubt there are really more naked girl pics here than naked boys. It's just that the threads with naked boys usually die rather quickly, while the naked girl inserting cactus threads go on forever - but that's a different problem alltogether ;)

now, back to my knitting.....

Ahhh sigh. There's a reason I generally skip through, in alot of threads, to posts made by certain, more focussed members. I can do this generally without loss of flow or continuity of topic. If it looks like I've missed something, just go up a bit and find the one missing, substantial post made within the many other useless, space filling, search engine clogging time wasters. Being concice, and doing your own research means this forum will not only stay an invaluable online resource, but could also become a valuable archivable resource once all of our freedom has been taken away. I think the bitch/crap : useful post ratio has grown significantly in a short amount of time.

I haven't been around here so much lately but I haven't seen you post for a whlie DL, good to see you back :)

this is technical and dunno how it might be implemented...... what if threads could be tagged as resource threads if they contain the precious info we often search for, and the search engine had an option to only display resource threads?

I think you missed one dah there!! LOL

I personally just love the place. I do however struggle with the search engine but I'm an old man! :P

I no I haven't been here that long and have only had limited input but that is only because I am very new to the subject matter at hand. I read as much as time allows me and I continue to learn. I will admit that some of the material is way over my head and that at time's concern's me as I feel there is little room for error of judgment or an error in understanding when it comes to this subject. It doesn't take long to work out who is full of shit and who know's what he or she is talking about but it's a damb shame that people have to talk in so many riddles. Leaves the door open to so many misinterpretations but that is life in a police state. I am a member of a few other sites as I have noticed many others from here are also, but this is the site I keep coming back to. I like the Vibe and I like the tone and some times I like to sit back and watch a good slanging match over dueling keyboards. Makes it interesting.

Don't change a thing for me!! (INXS)

they're called pinned threads, which i think would be a very useful and valuable addition to the forum. we need more useful threads pinned but the hard work is in shuffling thru the ocean of threads to find the standout ones.

meant something on a larger scale, to perform searches that exclude fairly uninformative threads.

Could a search through only pinned threads be made available?

That way we could pin more of the most useful threads and make them more readily discoverable?

Peace

yep, it's always a good idea to use the filter by username option.

but, searching pinned threads, huh?

they are pinned, so they will never dissapear, so one doesn't need to search for them.

increasing the nummber of pinned threads is no answer either, as nobody wants to have to scroll and keep scrolling till the "real threads" will appear on your screen.

maybe we need a pinned thread of how to search at this forum,

guess that's what i will do right now...

look forward to it ph, see if i'm missing anything.

seems to be the big issue, this search-a-mo-bob. the older members despise us noobs for having a yarn, and that makes us feel wonderful cuz we're killing the place with love, but i just realised isn't it true that most of the important info for research would be in the top grouping of forms? exclude chill, news, culture and spirt and you exclude most of the dribble. doing a quick clean up of the top group of forums might alleviate the problem, without being such an immense task.

i can probably stop feeling guilty cuz i usually dribble in the non-information forums.

Since it's been openly acknowledged that searching by certain usernames will yield better results--would it cause too much friction to list some of the more reliable names in your pinned post? Peer-reviewed suggestions from folks who have been here long enough to know would help us noobs.

Clicking the "ascending order" option in the search engine is usually of immense value I always find.
