Okay, lets break this down bit by bit. I'll repeat things others have said, but I'm just attempting a consolidated analysis.

DMT is not new, nor is it known to be lethal

POLICE have made what is thought to be WA's first seizure of a new and potentially fatal hallucinogenic drug, arresting three men.

Again, where is the evidence that DMT is potentially fatal? Perhaps IV DMT could be fatal in extremely high doses, but there is no evidence for this and no recorded deaths from this substance.

Police were called into investigate after a patient was admitted to Denmark Hospital with a suspected overdose of the drug.

I find this hard to believe. As was mentioned earlier, it would have worn off before they got to hospital if they smoked it. It's possible that it was used in conjunction with an MAOI, but as no other drug was mentioned in the article, we can assume that this was not the case (or just another oversight by the reporter).

``This is new (to WA). It's not new to the world. . . it's been used for 300 or 400 years overseas, but it's new to WA. We have never come across this in WA before.

I have not personally been to WA, but I find it hard to believe it is new there. Its use is definitely more than 400 years old worldwide.

``Even though we've only seized 2 grams, the fact that we've locked up three men, we believe we've put quite a dint in the potential for this drug to hit Denmark in large quantities.''

I don't understand the reasoning. It is unlikely that there ever was/would be a potential for large amounts of DMT to 'hit' anywhere, but drugs that do have this kinda of lure, like meth or heroin, will reach a location in large quantities regardless of TWO measly arrests. That's right, TWO arrests. According to the article, the third man was not arrested on any DMT related charges.

DMT is extracted from the bark of certain trees and is manufactured during a `` complex cooking process''.

This 'complex' process can be performed by any literate person with normal cognitive abilities.

He said chemists believed that each ``dose'' was 15 to 25 mg.

Depends on the method of use, but as the drug was found along with smoking implements, and smoking is the most common method of using pure DMT, I would assume they were smoking it. In which case most people would consider a good dose to be more in the 50-60mg range.

``Our concern is that if someone who hasn't taken the drug before and doesn't know anything about it and takes 1 gram, which is way over the dosage that chemists recommend is sufficient, then it may potentially have some major health effects for them.''

What in God's name are they on about? It is probably not even possible to use a gram. Ingestion would be the only imaginable way to get a gram into you in one go, and I imagine if you were taking an MAOI with it then you must've researched it a bit. Also, if they were charging 200 dollars a gram as previously stated, it is unlikely that someone would assume that to be one dose. There are a lot of stupid people out there, but there's more risk of them eating rat poison cause they hear it can get you high, than eating a gram of DMT with an MAOI.

He said police did not have any evidence that the drug, which is believed to have originated in South America, had been manufactured in the South West or from local trees.

If they didn't have any evidence, then it seems they probably weren't looking hard enough. I doubt it was imported from South America when it is just as easy to produce it locally.

The third man, a 23-year-old from Denmark, will be charged by summons for possessing cannabis and possessing a smoking implement.

Police in the south of the state have found what they believe is a manufacturing plant for the dangerous hallucinogenic drug dimethyltryptamine, or DMT, after raids on houses in Albany yesterday.

After officers voiced fears the potent psychedelic was about the hit WA's streets, following their first ever seizure of the drug in Denmark, detectives believe they have now found the production facility.

Sergeant Dave Dench of Denmark police said warrants were acted on in Albany yesterday, and the lab used to make the drug was allegedly discovered.

"Albany police executed a series of warrants yesterday, and they have located the lab they believe is processing the DMT," Sgt Dench said.

"There is a great deal of concern that people who get their hands on this won't know how to use (it) and may overdose, like what happened in Denmark."

DMT is created by cooking a plant extract with chemicals. It can be smoked, injected, or orally ingested - producing intense visual hallucinations and euphoria.

Similar to LSD, the risks for potential overdose or injury while influenced are said to be high because intoxication is almost immediate.

The first seizure on Thursday was sparked after two people were treated at Denmark Hospital for a suspected overdose.

Police said drug was apparently being sold in one gram packages for around $200. As little as 25mg is needed to produce hallucinations.

A 25-year-old Walpole man has been charged with supplying a prohibited drug (DMT) and possession of DMT and cannabis.

A Denmark man, 22 is facing charges of possession of DMT and possession of a smoking implement. Another Denmark man, 23, was charged with possessing cannabis and a smoking implement.

Those men will appear in Albany Magistrate’s Court next month.

Crap two articles in a few days on a drug that the media were apparenntly unaware of ...............Maybe DMT will be the new drug menance , another scourge on society...haha what a fucking joke , do these fucking morons writingg this crap actaully know how ridiculous their insinuations sound.

I'm still at a loss fucking DMT overdose what the fuck , who dreams up this shit , someone should pose as a reporter and ring this hospital find out the real deal , Maybe we could get more information on this 'overdose'from a medical professional then some dumb arse cop or reporter that has the iq of a malnourished toad stool.

I've been trying to think what the best course of action would be to deal with this. We are used to misinformation on drugs being propagated throughout the media, but this is a whole new level of it. I don't think these kind of LIES should go completely unchecked. Now the problem is that most newspapers etc. will feel it best to stick with the 'think of the children' kind of mentality, and even if they ran with a different stance to what this paper took, there still would not be any integrity in it, so we could not expect FACTS necessarily.

Best thing I could come up with is media watch. They would love something with this number of 'inaccuracies' in it. They don't have an agenda other than exposing bullshit within the media, so they would not focus too much on the actual subject matter, which I think would be good. I mean, we don't want this to be sensationalised any further, and we don't want to start a bullshit war. I just think it is not okay for journalists to spread such complete bullshit and not be questioned.

So does anyone think contacting media watch would be a good idea? Anyone think it's a bad idea? I don't necessarily think they would bother with it, but the question is whether they should even be contacted in the first place. Thoughts?

It's a scheduled drug..It scare's the shit out of Ma and Pa kettle..it's been demonized already..too late..it's best to just shut the fuck up about it. As insane and as ludicrous as the story has been presented in the West, that's the way all Journo's work. weather it be sport, glamor, Politics or any news breaking story..they need a story and they need it fast..deadlines, print runs..its how they work..there just imbeciles..we allready know that. It wouldn't matter if you had the most respected Professor up on national TV telling the nation the history and the ins and outs of DMT..the parents..the voters, the Gov't..would still be scared shitless of it, and would want people locked up for it, and have the cops hunt it down and continue to do so.

It makes the parents feel safe. Do you honestly think that if we where to call up the hospital and the press there etc and try to explain what we know about this compound would be a good idea..it would make us look like druggies and minoritize us even more. They don't give a shit about what we do and how we feel.. they think we are fucked up hippy drug fiends.. and if they had a vote would probably have us all locked up too.

Here is an experiment I've been doing with myself for the past year or so...

I used to work in the city and be caught up in the hustle and bustle and be occupied with work, travel and others in the office etc..I used to even read the daily news papers..I would come home and eat dinner and have the TV on..the news, current affair, the usual Joe blow stuff. You can be subliminally brainwashed to accept the stories and news feeds you read and hear about after a while and start to feel like Joe blow and start making comments about this and that. It's actually in my mind a conditioning..after a while you can see the formula's that work for these news hungry shows and papers..sensationalism and making people groan and appealing to Joe blows sense of morality is the most hardcore conditioning out there. Most don't ever know or care to know anything much deeper or try to understand other ways..it's the few that are awoken by that deep itch and pulse with in us, and say's hey...! this isnt right..this stinks there's something fucking stinking here..step back and cleanse yourself of this journo filth before its too late and you end up voting for the right wing.

So I decided I would not watch or read any news or gossip or any of that shite that is shown on FTA TV ever again...occasionally I check it out to remind myself of how lucky I am to have been able to snap out of that conditioning and stay away from it. The same formula's are still being used to sell papers and news because it works..appeal to the dead heads and they get their money and sell papers over and over and over. A story will break...they need to get it into the office quick smart..they fish the tasty bits out and sling it back to the office so as to be the first with the info..don't matter that its half arsed..Joe Blow don't care..he just wants to read the shit on his smoko break and feel the outcry with his brotherhood of brainwashed dead heads and chat about it at the water cooler. The story is ill captured and mismanaged and ends up being completly wrong. Once its passed around a 10 million people at work..it takes on a life of its own, and is as far from the truth as I am from getting a kilo of RC's delivered by Dominos' pizza. Journo's aren't gunna go back and say ..oh sorry readers we got that slightly wrong and the real details are such and such...YEAH RIGHT...when would that ever happen...they leave it the way its captured cause the formula they use sells papers and that's all that matters.

Carry on brothers..and sisters and just be proud that you are awake and aren't Joe Blow or Cheryl Duncan at work or where ever these pea brains are..discussing and twisting and bullshitting their way through the day to make themselves a buck and look good.

Having said all that I think Ballzac's MEDIA WATCH is a pearler..I would love to work in that environment and be a part of a team of truth seekers..very very cool...prolly still wont awaken the dead heads out there cause they wouldn't read it LOL..

And the meek shall inherit the earth..thats us guys..thats us..these brainwashed fools will perish and be returned to place from whence they came...the spiritually bankrupt place were they where shat out from.

Albany detectives uncovered an alleged clandestine lab where the dangerous psychedelic drug DMT was being manufactured during a raid in Albany yesterday.

Organised crime officers were called from Perth to deal with the find after Albany detectives raided the home in relation to other drug inquiries, police said.

No charges have yet been laid but thewest.com.au has been told that residents were cooking the DMT when the house was raided.

There were fears the potent drug had hit WA streets after south-west officers made the State’s first seizure of dimethyltryptamine (DMT) on Wednesday.

The drug, which was created by cooking a plant extract with chemicals, was not common in WA but there had been evidence of it being used as far back as the 1930s, a drug researcher said.

Professor Steve Allsop, the National Drug Research Institute director, said DMT was usually sniffed or smoked and it was similar to LSD, but rather than having hallucinations, a user would feel like they were having very vivid dreams while they were awake.

“The risks for overdose or injury are high because users go from being totally sober to highly intoxicated in less than a minute,” he said.

Prof Allsop said he was concerned by the seizure of the drugs, which had been known to cause mental illnesses.

“I’m not aware of any deaths related to overdosing but adverse effects include being highly anxious, paranoid, agitated and scared.”

Denmark Sgt Dave Dench said the police investigation was sparked after two people were treated at Denmark Hospital for a suspected overdose to DMT.

It appeared the drug was being sold in 1g packages for $200, although less than 25mg was needed to produce the hallucinogen effect.

Police in Albany, Denmark and Walpole allegedly seized almost 2g of the drug and charged three men during raids on two properties in Walpole and Denmark.

A Walpole man, 25, was charged with supplying a prohibited drug (DMT) and possession of DMT and cannabis, while a Denmark man, 22, was charged with possession of DMT and possession of a smoking implement used for smoking DMT.

Another Denmark man, 23, was charged with possessing cannabis and smoking implement.

The trio will appear in Albany Magistrates Court in January.

They lay it on thick. Don't the cops care about this misrepresentation?

I wouldn't go to media-watch. EVERYONE in the media watches media watch so the risk of creating a bullshit fight wouldn't be worth it. If you're serious about action I would suggest keeping every article on this you can. In the event that this bollocks-fest spreads outside the small-time WA media (perhaps another bust) it will be interesting to see how much misinformation gets perpetuated from these initial articles. If things get big then you could present a better case by delivering the chronology of misconduct.

I hope they weren't members here.

In Albany, five people were charged with conspiracy to possess amphetamine with intent to sell or supply while five people were charged with possessing amphetamine with intent to sell or supply.

All up, 13 people will appear in Albany Magistrate's Court next Thursday on 33 charges ranging from drug matters to firearm-related and weapons charges.

Detective Sergeant Paul Lydiate from Albany detectives said inquiries were continuing in relation to the operation and that further arrests were imminent.

Det. Sgt Lydiate said inquiries were also continuing after police located the DMT lab in Albany.

Members of the Organised Crime Squad and clandestine lab specialists have since travelled to Albany to investigate the lab.
