I was out foraging for Saffron Milk Caps and found what I think might be Mousy Tricholomas. Details: Detached Gills/deeply notched (there are gills around the top of the stipe on some specimens upon very close inspection) White-grey gills Growing in pine forests between lithgow and bathurst Easily broken stem White spore print cap is convex to flat with a slight umbo

My lift pulled out If anyone is heading up tomorrow (and has a spare seat) from Sydney PM me or send a text. It would be much appreciated.

Me and a mate are in! Could someone please send me a pm with the final details once decided? I am happy to camp anywhere, trek anywhere, for as long as required. Most importantly though, I just need to know where. Also, I am going to bring some cultures of edibles and some extra plates to subculture interesting fungi that we find. Esp Omphalotus nidiformis or Ramaria.

SO where are we meeting? I haven't been to the g-spot before. Also, I might need to get a lift if mine falls through. Happy to pay petrol.

Thanks for the link. Much obliged.

Hi guys, I just made up a whole heap of pink oyster and lion's mane plates. I have access to a lab at the moment, so I am very keen to make up a heap of plates. If anyone is keen to trade, let me know. If you are just keen on getting started let me know and I am sure I can help you out. I am broke though, so if you could cover postage it would really help!

Hi guys, I was just reading about the growing hyphal tip, and found that hyphae secrete different ions such as Ca2+ near the apex. I was thinking that this might be a really simple way to control fungi on plants and could be done in a really enviro friendly way. Maybe by making a fungicide that increases/decreases the concentrations of these ions. Does anyone know if this has been done before? Or maybe if this is how fungicides already work? http://www.yorku.ca/planters/images/How_does_a_hypha_grow.png

Good reference books for the aspirting mycologist?
domeboy replied to jaek's question in Fungus Identification
What areas of mycology are you into? If you are into more than just phenotypic IDs I can suggest some books you might be keen on. -
Which Uni are you at? There are a few people at Sydney Uni that should be able to point you to some good primary literature. Also, PM me your email address as I have about 30 fungi textbooks, some of which focus on bio-remediation. That goes for anyone else that might be keen for them too. Does anyone know of a replacement for megaupload? I can upload a zip with all of them if anyone is keen.

I'm in for March 24-25th.

Probably from Boletales. From that pic, my best bet would be Boletellus emodensis. There are a few Boletellus sp. that look similar though. If you can, send me the spores and I will try and narrow it down futher. Also a photo of the pores and any staining that happens to it would be helpful. Edit: Also was it found in Eucalypt leaf litter? Also could be Gymnopilus dilepsis after some research.

I'm in. Any time other than easter weekend is good. Also, if anyone is keen to document all the species we see, let me know and I will print out some recording sheets. Also, if the generator is there I might bring along a microscope.

I got 2 microscopes from a wholesaler in china via alibaba for $400 inc postage. Both of them are professional quality and are often ones sold here for $600+. My compound microscope has everything you would expect (highest lense is 100x) and only set me back $250. It did take a while to get here though. If you are happy to wait and you don't mind spending hours chatting to sales assistants to try and find one and organise for a single unit to be shipped, this is by far the best option that I have come across.

I use metho in alcohol lamps without any problems. Also, I went and checked the MSDS for a few common brands of metho and it is true! 95% ethanol, 5%, and the bitterest substance in existence. In theory it should be safe to drink. Probably tastes no different to the house gin I had last night in chinatown.

What's this? I need it, please ASAP
domeboy replied to RyanVolle's question in Fungus Identification
If you want to send me a small sample I will identify it to the genus level using my microscope. I actually have a bit of experience identifying moulds. EDIT: Also, trying to identify moulds on a wall can be near impossible. Often moulds will grow next to each other and sometimes you might miss one of the species. Good to ID under a microscope and even better to culture a sample of the wall. -
Yeah I found a couple on Christmas Day 2 years ago in Gloucester. Happy times!

Yeah I am happy to reschedule to the 14th. Maybe we should have an informal meet up for drinks before then somewhere too. I would be keen to get a monthly mycophile night going somewhere in the city if others are keen. I have a few people I know would be keen.

Count me in. I have been thinking about going on forays with them for a year now. True mycophiles should love all fungi!

Dude! I was at Regrowth too!! I also found them and heaps of others. We will have to have chat.

Seconded. -
Hi guys! I am trying to track down a culture of Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi) mushroom. I am happy to exchange for some edible seeds (veges) or some sterile plates or other general mushroom supplies. I don't have many cultures and most of them are ones from fresh asian mushies. Im also really keen any any oyster varieties that anyone might have, esp warmer weather ones! I am trying to start a small business from home growing oysters from recycled coffee grounds. If anyone has any advice on this it would be very well received. I have experimented growing some in the past on wheat straw and it worked OK. I am really keen to produce and exchange locally. Thanks guys! I plan on spending a bit more time on this forum. If anyone needs any info on the scientific side of mycology, I am studying biology and might be able to help out.

Hi Mycophiles, I have just got my microscope and am keen to get some spores for microscopy. I have a few edible cultures and particularly interested in expanding this collection too. I am really keen on growing Lion's Mane mushroom if anyone has a culture of this too I am interested in some mycorhizzal species to see if I can get some life-boxes cranking. PM me if you can help out

Amazing composition! Taking photos in such low light can be really demanding! 10/10!
