    Oxytocin nasal spray

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/health/1046468/spray-makes-men-more-caring-affectionate Scientists in Germany and England claim they have invented a nasal spray that makes men more caring, sensitive and affectionate. The spray is based on oxytocin, a hormone released in women's bodies during labour and breastfeeding, the Daily Mail reported. During tests at Cambridge and Friedrich Wilhelms University of Bonn, 24 men were given the nasal spray while 24 others were given a placebo. Afterwards the men were shown photographs designed to trigger emotion responses, including pictures of a crying girl, a man in mourning and a child holding a kitten. The group given the nasal spray showed levels of sensitivity "usually seen in women", according to one of the study's scientists. Dr Keith Kendrick at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge said the use of oxytocin had a "big effect" on the men it was being tested on. "It gets men up to the levels shown by women — it could be a good thing or bad thing, depending on which way you look at it," he said. "For many women, you could say it would almost be a godsend to make a man more empathetic and more like them." It is believed that the oxytocin spray could be used to help people with autism, schizophrenia and other disorders related to having trouble connecting with other people. "For many women, you could say it would almost be a godsend to make a man more empathetic and more like them." Maybe there should be a companion product consisting of a testosterone nasal spray for women. "For many men, you could say it would almost be a godsend to make a woman more interested in sex and less likely to nag. BTW I have some oxy spray (not the mentioned product) that I have tried intranasally with only the most subtle of results, certainly not the loved up feeling I was hoping for.

What Video Games Do You Play?

I am currently playing Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines which was released almost 10 years ago. I'm also playing a sci-fi puzzle, The Swapper, and a freaking scary survival horror called Outlast. Prior to that I was playing Sang-Froid Tales of Werewolves which I thought was hugely enjoyable and rather unique, it is a strategy, tower defense, FPS set in the Canadian wilderness in 1885 and it has werewolves Grab your axe & musket. I really enjoyed The Walking Dead, if you liked the tv show try the game, some great voice acting & character development with a pretty cool story which kind of fits in with the tv series. The game is a prequel. I get most of my games on Steam and am always looking out for interesting indi games, of which there are many. I don't play the big titles too much and usually wait until they are on special a year later although i will probably get the Witcher 3 close to release. So many good games and so little time to game.

    Psychedelic Podcasts

I've been listening to a lot of podcasts on the ride to and from work, my noise cancelling head phones work wonders under the helmet. I spent a while looking for some interesting material which I imagine would probably be enjoyed by a lot of people here, so her goes: Timothy Leary narrating Flashbacks Click here. I had to rename the files with a .mp3 extension for my walkman to recognise them but they play fine through windows media player. The largest repository of awesome psychedelic podcasts, with weeks worth of McKenna alone can be found here http://www.matrixmasters.net/salon/ right click on download mp3 and "save link as" it took me a while to work that out so no laughing. Some awesome talks by Grob, Raetsch and Ott for the more academic content. There is just so much awesome material here, if you haven't looked into this then do yourself a favor. Listening to the discussion on how a severely mentally disturbed child of 12 was treated with LSD and the positive outcomes was fascinating, this work was done 50 odd years ago and never published. A lot of the Mindrolling podcasts are worth a good listen and some can be found here https://soundcloud.com/mindrollingpodcast The main page is here http://mindrollingpodcast.com/ Anyway I have been listening to this stuff almost daily for a couple of months now and just can't get enough of it. If anyone has some good audio /podcast links to share I would love to take a look.

    Psychedelic Podcasts

My 10 month old is keeping me exhausted, usually the only time I get to indulge myself with regards to my secret shaman interests is the 30 min ride to and from work. Its all good though & I wouldn't change it for anything. We are all off to Nepal for some trekking adventure in Nov, should be interesting with a 6yr old & a 11 month old. Take care :-)

    Terence McKenna a CIA/FBI Agent?

I was listening to one of the psychedelic salon podcasts where Terrence said all of the above mentioned, it was certainly said in some jest like he was poking fun. Having listened to a good two dozen of the podcasts of just Terrence, its fairly easy to conclude he loved to joke and didn't take half of what he said seriously. I'm not for or against Terrence, he could talk the hind leg off a donkey which was entertaining to say the least, but the more I listened the less I was inclined to believe half of what he said. It won't be too hard to find the relevant podcast and assess the comments in the context of the whole 90min talk. There is a lot of fascinating stuff on Terrence, particularly how he had a big dose that scared the crap out of him, he then spent the next decade talking large doses up without ever taking one again. Quite the showman.

    essential oil questions

Have a look here http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=31633 I have tried 10 drops of lemon oil by cap & trandermally (with emu oil as carrier) and its certainly not a placebo. Transdermally gave a nice kind of euphoric feeling for a short while. I would recommend trying this first as it seems like a fairly pleasant oil to work with. I tried elemi oil transdermally it was either 3 or 5 drops and felt a very mild psychedelic/stoned like feeling which lasted 6 hours or so. Basil oil is meant to be a good one too, unfortunately I don't have any spare time to invstigate further at this stage.
  12. The first ones look very much like slipery jacks aka Suillus luteus, a mate of mine is Polish & his parents collect & cook them up, from memory fried with butter was the way to go. I tried some once and the texture was horrendous. For reference I don't find the texture of oysters off putting, but I couldn't even bring myself to chew these things, it got to the center of my tongue and I had to spit it out. It must be a cultural thing. Don't know what the coral looking pics are sorry.

What is the weirdest thing you have ever seen?

Awesome thread. I've had a fair amount of weirdness throughout my life and quite frankly would like some more. About 6 months before my son was born (he is 7 months old now) I was woken in the middle of the night after hearing a shout inside my head and the word was "DADDY", my heart was racing & it took several minutes to calm down and get back to sleep. When i was in Peru a few years ago & on an aya retreat, I sensed the presence of a 50 something African woman kneeling beside me, inspecting me. I asked her who she was and she told me she was the spirit of Ayahuasca. I told her I already knew the spirit of Ayahuasca (we had a 1 on 1 meeting a couple of days previous) and that she wasn't it (this spirit felt decidedly human) I told her to show me her face and she moved her head so quickly that I could only see an ear as she was trying to look away. I told her in no uncertain terms that she wasn't the spirit of Ayahuasca and to leave immediately, at which she disapparated. I was in the bush by myself collecting some plant material for a friend a couple of years ago and after I had collected what was required, I had a sence that I was overstaying my welcome. This feeling grew stronger and stronger until I was almost running back to my car. It was like a strong gut feeling that didn't abate until I was on the road on the way home.

    Psoriasis & Dermatitis

I have had psoriasis for about 25 years, sometimes it gets better sometimes it gets worse. Summer time seems a good time of year and winter, not so much. There have been a number of things that I noticed along the way that helped alleviate the symptoms (almost entirely dietary) and recently I have combined them to really try to combat the problem. Cloustrum helped, I imagine due to the immunoglobulins, I was taking that for stomach problems when I noticed things getting better. Silica taken internally seemed to help, the colloidal gel seems pretty good. Glutamine also helped with anxiety & gut repair when the IBS was giving me grief and the probiotics helped with the IBS. The thing that was a major winner which I discovered recently was powdered psyllium husks (metamucil) which I was taking twice a day, i have now switched to a table spoon of chia seed twice a day as they contain lots of nutrients and fatty acids. Anyway the turn around in the symptoms was dramatic and after about 10 weeks the dermatitis on my hands is almost gone (it had been getting progressively worse for about 2 years), my knuckles are still a bit pink but healing up really well. The psoriasis on my elbows and knees is the best it has been, probably in the last 10 or 15 years. Small psoriasis spots on my legs have gone completely. My skin which has always seemed dry just looks & feels healthier. My fingernails & toe nails seem to be doing really well also, possibly due to the silica. I have always known that my stomach & digestion were a weak point, and felt that a majority of my health problems were associated with poor digestion. I estimate an 80% reduction in symptoms with the majority of that being noticed in the first 4 weeks since taking a combination of the psyllium, colustrum, silica & glutamine and drinking plenty of water with that. Now I need to concentrate on a diet that will help the body heal. I have been chowing down on the sprouted seeds recently which makes me feel healthy, although sleep deprivation from my 6 month old is keeping me wiped out. I just thought I would put this out there in case it helps anyone reading. I almost wish I had taken before & after pictures.

Hermit caught after 27 years in Maine woods

I was in California in early 2001 and my friend & I picked up a couple of hitch hikers in her Celica, it was a tight squeeze. Anyway the 2 guys we picked up had been living a sort of hermit life although I think they were part of a small hermit like community living away in the hills, one of them, and Northern Irish guy had been trapping animals for food and living fairly wild for about 20 years, they got by on small amounts of money which they bought rice & whiskey with. When we picked them up they were on their way home (they couldn't hitchhike to where they wanted, so they turned around and went back), we dropped them off at the ocean on the way to Hearst Castle, they were going to a particular beach where the waves were eroding the mountain and washing out chunks of jade which they would collect & sell to a jeweler. I got the impression they were both hiding out to some degree, the older guy possibly from a knee capping, and the younger one (who was only 21) from reality. It was an interesting couple of hours in the car with them.
  23. I believe that the source material for Withnail & I at the very end has Withnail suicide with a shotgun. Thankfully that never made it into the film, that would have been too tragic. If you listen to Withnail's theme, the music finishes with a percussive thump just as the music is tapering off which I believe is a reference to the suicide. I remember another sad Brook Shields film, from my youth - Endless Love, it scores poorly on IMDB (4.4/10) but I saw it while i was in primary school so am in no way endorsing the film, I just remember how tragic and ultimately doomed the love between the protagonists was, they were only 15.

    US national debt clock

Opt out of the system and barter precious metals for goods and labor. If you don't have savings in the bank, the bank cant fractionally lend (if I have $1 in the bank, the bank will lend $100 based on my $1 check out how crazy the system is) and your purchases cant be tracked. Keep the thieving banks out of the loop and avoid inflation. The old round 50c piece has about $20 dollars worth of silver in it, and that $20 will buy you about what the 50c would have bought you when they were still in circulation. What has more value, a gold coin or some electronic zeros that can be generated or extinguished at the stroke of a key. You cant stash electronic zeros at the bottom of the fish pond ;-)
