In for sure. And yes, plant swaps should be an important sub-theme. I've got some cacti that are overdue for a prune and others that are just in need of a good home.

    Avoiding hangovers

Piked it and had a "Gastrolyte" instead. Then felt guilty and had a water with a several grinds of (Himalayan) salt - funny, it tasted much like the Gastrolyte. Had another Gastrolyte at 4:30am. Feel exceptional today - zero hangover. Cheers for the tip!! And Merry Christmas all you fellow SABers.
  6. Whilst out walking today I came across this absolutely massive, i'm guessing, cereus and right next to it some monstrose...

    Avoiding hangovers

well after a couple of Johnnie Walker double-black and blue (1st time) with my father-in-law (overrated IMO and, quietly, not half as good as the quick Glenmorangie ([Tayne]) at my place on their way to the cemetery) i'm off to the pub to meet friends. Seems i'll be needing the advice from this thread tomorrow and will let you know how it works out. The glass of saltwater scares me more than the hangover right now..

    Home made mead

pitch the yeast, settle the trub and rack that brew. and dont forget to floculate! I feel like such a newb... but i'm keen to give this a go too. i remember picking up some bottles of mead from Mudgee Honey many, many years ago (do they still exist?). It was quite nice, but the real deal was their honey mead liqueur... omfg.

Is this site dying out ?

We all go through ups and downs and I guess participation in the site reflects this. As ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ says there are plenty of other distractions at the moment but "dying out" sounds far too pessimistic. Plus, it's spring, so i'm trying to spend more time outside in my garden rather than in front of a computer.
  14. Any other readers of fiction out there? I'm always on the hunt for new authors with the late Iain Banks being my favourite - closely followed by Irvine Welsh. (No, i'm not scottish). Iain Banks final book The Quarry I really enjoyed. Irvine's last book, A Decent Ride, I found amusing but a little disappointing although his previous The Sex Lives of Siamese Twins was classic. I'm currently reading DBC Pierre's Lights Out In Wonderland. Manic fun. I gave up on Thomas Pynchon's Bleeding Edge as (like Inherent Vice, the movie) I just couldn't keep track of what the fuck was going on - too many characters perhaps for my tiny mind to cope with. Anyway, I would love to hear what others are enjoying or have abandoned.

    American election, what's your call

TBH i'm pretty much over the whole thing. The thought of either of them at the helm gives me the heebie jeebies. And because I am a mere pawn in this world and know absolutely nothing of whats really going on, I cannot form a firm opinion on the old media conspiracy smear campaign stuff. This waiting though...

    2016 cube season

s'funny how I always thought it necessary to drive North for cubes when I was younger. Usually a minimum of 4 hours from Sydney... South always seemed too cold but you live and learn. Presumably they grow much further south - Tasmania even? (i'm sure i've seen some North American spore seller flogging "Tazzie Devils" or something).

  19. I had a dream last night that I was taking part in a race around the Sydney Harbour Bridge. (That's right around - it was somehow circular in my dream.) I'd purchased some sort of vehicle for the race but at the last minute decided to take my (IRL) turbo-charged vehicle. I was certain I'd win. Strangely (if its not strange enough already) it was a bit of an obstacle course with all these market stalls selling clothing set up on it that had to be dodged. I persevered, but only got about 10% through the course when I was awoken to take a piss. I could swear that after getting back to sleep I went back to the same dream to battle on with the race. (This also happened a second time - pit stops perhaps?). To the best of my knowledge, there was no winner. (It was interesting to read in the news this morning that there was chaos on the bridge following two separate car accidents at either end - coincidence?).

    Phone scams

I've been getting an odd text message lately telling me "you were involved in an accident two years ago blah blah blah" and to text the word "CLAIM" to the number. Weird thing is that if you ring the number (from an unrelated landline of course) it is disconnected... how does this scam work? P.S. Spooge, your avatar is somewhat disturbing... unless, of course, that's you.
  22. Hi, I was given this cactus today. Can anyone ID please? Cheers CrayZ

twas fun! I agree, Rookwood is very interesting and, dare I say, kind of... surreal. Maybe its just being surrounded by so much death that i've been strangely introspective all afternoon. Certainly easy to get lost in... (I wondered if anyone saw me drive back past 10 minutes after i left ) Hope you all made it home OK. [toast?] And thanks for the beer Hillbilly - it hit the spot on such a warm spring day. (anyone else get sunburnt?) I'll post up a few photos once i've vetted them. Oh, and I didn't watch the footy after all. Shit bores me to tears.
