djmattz0r Posted January 5, 2014 Definitely looks like it's attempting to crest, reminds me of a zombie fist coming out of the ground :D
mutant Posted January 8, 2014 If one keeps pachanoi monsters long enough its pretty obvious they are going to crest eventually - or at least I do not have a pachanoi monster which is non-cresty. Talking about the clone that indeed goes columnar from time to time, some of their best times is when they change from crest to column: then you can get columnar cuttings , root them, and then eventually they will crest much higher than base ground like usually. All in all this is going to be prettier and prettier whether it crests now or later. (my bets is its gonna make 2 seperate crests from the top)

junkheadrev Posted January 9, 2014 Thanks Dreamwalker , they aren't that uncommon where I am , but I would kill the have an abundance of oz clones make their way to the states. The grass is always greener I suppose.
mutant Posted January 9, 2014 (edited) another crest of mine that I have promised not to cut. note the 'reptile' marks at the center. this is a myrtillocactus monster that I suspect is different from the commonest crest form and this is supposed to be the crest, but its different when grafted on a myrti... we will see when some degraft grows more.... and this is obviously the crest form a columnar pachanoi monster mostly newcomer monstrosities and monvillea monsters ready to start cresting Edited January 9, 2014 by mutant

mutant Posted January 10, 2014 kykeion the cactus in the monvillea picture is a SAB sourced cuzcoensis (came as pachanoi, got a KK number, something like 2150) that I have called the "anus plant" (the first termination looked a lot like an anus, it still does) else where, this clone terminates a tip or two some times, but with time it proved it does not maintain the monster growth for long , additionally when in the monster mode it goes so slow that inevitable it pups normal growth from lower areoles. Once I rooted a monster limb, after a long wait, the terminated tip woke up eventually and it went on growing from there. Still, and interesting cactus, and its got nice reddish/orangeish spines, uncommon for cuzco. there, I found a thread with some more pics of the same clone http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=32085&hl=anus#entry367601
Kykeion Posted January 10, 2014 Thanks mutant. That is a really neat specimen, even if the monstrose growth is short term. I recall seeing your other photos of it before. I'm not a huge cuzco fan, but I'd definitely add one of those to my collection.
