  1. I don't know if bees can pollinate Salvia d. flowers, their anatomy isn't really that bee friendly. Maybe native bees would have a better chance because they are much smaller. Their long narrow flowers seem to more like something that's pollinated by a moth of some sort. Some moths feed on nectar successfully with other elongated flowers when bees can't because they can sometimes have a tongue almost as long as the moth that can reach all they way in. Hand pollination with a brush worked for me before but the seeds never grew. Maybe the application of an irritant like the cement trick could help the flowers become more receptive to pollen from a different species.

Good point about the smartphones @AndyAmine. , in reality you don't really own these devices, you are paying to borrow them from google or apple. Android has a system where apps are sandboxed and in theory shouldn't have system access beyond their own space but in reality it doesn't always work like that. You could add window$ 10 to the same category too these days, the EULA you have to agree to use it basically waives all your rights to privacy and grants permission for remote access to everything on the system including keystrokes. I won't do any banking on a smartphone as there are just too many opportunities for them to be compromised. I prefer to use linux and create my own sandbox for anything sensitive. I use firejail to start firefox and that provides an extra layer of protection. Firejail basically creates it's own runspace where it generates a dummy copy of the required system files in your home directory and restricts system access to just that dummy copy/runspace. Anything that tries to "escape" the sandbox and access the real system is tricked into using the duplicate copy and can't really do much to the real system. You can also a fsandbox for almost any other app with firejail too, so you can do own PGP encryption in sandboxed environment too Starting firefox through firejail using the DNS option to use an anon. DNS server is also an easy way to negate local metadata collection if you aren't using a VPN. You have to use a non logging search engine like DDG though. It won't stop your IP being logged on the sites you connect to though. @Zedo I'd be interested to read any details about signal leaking data you could dig up. I did a fairly comprehensive network audit on signal for 2 weeks using NMAP, wireshark, netstat & a few other tools & didn't find anything to indicate it was "phoning home".

Please help me organise my cactus!

If you do dig them up & trim the roots try not to cross contaminate anything with whatever you cut the roots with. Clean the implement with metho between each plant. Also whenever you damage cactus roots it can be a good idea to leave the plant unpotted/unplanted for a few days for the cuts to callus over. It's not absolutely necessary for trichs but for more sensitive things like lophs it very important. If you don't feel like leaving them unpotted or unplanted you can shove them back in the ground if it's fairly dry soil and don't water them for a few days. Damaged roots are very susceptible to fungal attack especially in wet soil.. It wouldn't hurt to do PH test on the soil either.

    forget about it

Yeah it's fucken offensive @Horus , to think we could have someone like that in our midst. I always thought our circle was one the most generous trustworthy sharing group of people I've ever been associated with. It's a blow to all us. A real kick in the guts. When I first met Horus he gifted me a substantial bunch of cactus cuts and his generosity blew me away. So knowing Horus didn't need cactus, I tried to pay it forward and give some of my excess away, that's how I met @Change from a give away I did here one time. Now almost every time I see him he gives me something. He's spread rare cactus cuts to people all over the country, many times at a cost to himself. Who steals from someone like this ? If he doesn't think it's viable to have them at home then that just won't do. Let's all chip in & get a patch going for him somewhere safe. I'll start a few grafts in the next few days and an old mate with a rural property might be able to find a safe spot for them until Change can can find a secure location for them.

Fucken lowlife cunts. So if they took a significant proportion of your collection they must have had a ute, van or trailer ect. Did they take any of the grafts I gave you ? I've got a few random Trich cuts and few other things here you can have mate.

    Encrypted Messengers

I suppose this is as good a place as any to outline some details about encrypted email. I've been using a free open source encrypted email platform call protonmail. It was developed by the scientists at CERN as way to ensure the privacy of their own communications and crowd funded on indiegogo in 2014. It's not cloud based and the mail servers are in Switzerland, so the servers are not directly accessible to anyone without a court order from Swiss supreme courts . The data stored on the servers is protected by the Swiss Federal Data Protection Act (DPA) and the Swiss Federal Data Protection Ordinance (DPO) . The system has been setup in a way that stores almost no meta data and doesn't log IP addresses. Emails to other protonmail email addresses are handled internally on protonmail's servers which eliminates one opportunity for interception. Emails to other non protonmail email addresses have the option to be encrypted and sent with a one time password so the email can be de-crypted. Messages can also be set to have an expiry date. One of the best aspects for me is that logging into proton mail can be setup with two step authentication, so even if your password does get compromised you can rest assured that your account is still safe. If you are not using two step authentication on everything that offers it these days then you really should look into it. Taking it one step further you have the provision to log the IP address of users who have logged into your account and the IP address is not accessible to the IT staff at protonmail. It also has a whitelist/blacklist system which allows you to filter out spam from any IP address you choose. It's available in free and paid versions. The free version has a few less features but it's a very capable and flexible platform designed for security from the ground up. It's also available for iOS and adroid and the interface seems quite slick on these devices. It's well worth a look if you are old school and still see privacy as a unalienable right or if you just want an email account that is safe from automated bot email hacking systems being sold today. copper garden implements and the secrets of H2O

Yeah, it's hard to discount the genius of Shauberger, but I could never comprehend how he could make the claims he made about the copper gardening implements. Electroculture certainly is an interesting field with many proven methods for enhancing plant growth and health but some of the regurgitated crap on the web is wishful thinking and can only be replicated intermittently. When Uni has wound up for the year it wouldn't hurt to look into electroculture @Change .it might give you some ideas for experiments or maybe tie into the work your doing now (unlikely though) History of Electroculture & Magnetoculture

Maybe this is why they are calling Dick a racist. Waleed is a racist terrorist sympathiser but Dick speaks reason with absolutely no racist undertones and the corporate media seizeed on it and twist it around to represent something it's not.

  12. Queensberry rules Skellum - keep it above the belt old chap. I don't know if the comment was made in jest but it was a low blow. I had a post removed by EG a few years ago and we sorted it out with a simple PM. The next day it was edited in way we could both agree on and back on the forum. I've always found EG to be very reasonable and approachable, If he removes something he' only does it to protect our arses. I'm glad you decided to stay EG

    Where to go?

So you finally found someone who will pay you what you're worth. About time too. The way the uni kept you hold up here for all that time was just wrong. It's good to know you'll be moving on to greener pastures. All the best mate I hope it goes well for you.

    Perseid Meteor Shower

Fucking Flying rocks! This is going on right now and is supposed to be visible over a fairly wide range of zones. I've seen a few flashes but then the cloud cover moved back in & blocked everything. The fucking moon is going to take the edge of what would been a really spectacular show, but anyone in clear skies should see a good show none the less. It should start kicking in now and continue until the pre-dawn hours. Someone else in clearer skies might get a good show. Perseid Meteor Shower @ Space.com

    Perseid Meteor Shower

I didn't see anything except a few early flashes and then the fucking clouds blew in and put an end to it. People in the Northern Hemisphere on the other side of the globe should be getting a good show now and depending on their location they won't have the moon interfering with the view.

    button graft help

It could well be something else, Ill be happy to admit I'm wrong if that's the case. I was just trying to give a strategy to prevent any further damage for a worst case scenario, the metho is perfectly safe if you take the precautions I outlined before. Maybe pm EG and ask him to check out your pics, he knows his cactus better than I do. It's the same with anything in life, you should never rely on a single opinion.

    button graft help

Mites are sap suckers, they make microscopic holes and feed on the juices below the surface. The initial damage is pretty well always a discouloration very siimilar to what the pics show. In the secondary phases of damage after a few weeks the damage turns chlorotic (yellow) and then later turns white and then into scar tissue as the plant heals. I was just regurgitating advice EG gave me one time when when I posted similar pics of my baby lophs here many years ago. The metho halted it for mine then and has every other time I've seen that symptom It could well be something else. time will tell.

All I was saying was that you brought a plant in from outside which is bad practice for an indoor grow room and you did say you've got shit buzzing around in there. I wasted all that typing a reply to a thread that had sat there unanswered for 3 hours and you just got offended of a simple turn of phrase not meant to imply anything personal. Good luck with it when spring comes.

    button graft help

Napalm ? Use the metho undiluted. Yeah it's never a good idea to bring a plant from outside into a confined growing space, even just being in the garden before entering the room is not the best idea. Most of the bugs you are seeing are probably fungus gnats which can be a problem if their larvae gets into the root system of a weak plant. Most plants can tolerate them fine up to a point. A vacuum cleaner can be good to reduce their numbers if you do it every day but will never solve the problem. Sometimes you need to get everything out and spray the fuck out of the room at least once. While you have the plants out you could fumigate each one if you don't mind using chemicals. If it were me I'd be tempted re-pot the whole fucking lot in a mix that's been solarised in plastic bags for a few days. A hot driveway is good for that. Then I'd consider covering the top 1-2 inches of potting mix with straight sand, they say they won't burrow in and breed in sand for some reason. And re-evaluate your grow room hygiene. Edit : Never spray any chemicals with a HID light switched on

    button graft help

It's most likely mite damage, could be altogether trivial or it could spiral out of control. Spray it with metho and make sure to soak the area around the graft union, the little fuckers love to hide out in there. Then because the metho will dissolve the waxy coating on the plant it will be very susceptible to sunburn for a few weeks. So keep it out of direct sunlight, you could even bring it inside for a week or so & then start gradually reaclimatising it to incrementally stronger light. Check the other plants that are in close proximity to that one too. Mites tend to infest areas and you don't know until the damage becomes obvious.

PAR meters- a question for the geeks

How do the commercial units do it ? Do they split the light with a grate and then use individual photodiodes for each desired wavelength ? I'd imagine there will be some tricky maths involved to deal with the calculations. Light intensity starts getting very complicated when you vary the sensors from the light source, so maybe it will need an inbuilt lux meter to give a baseline intensity and then maybe lookup tables to compensate for varying distances in test samples. Different tubes emit different frequencies too so even though the final solution could be quite simple establishing a baseline and referencing it might be a bit tricky at first. Could be talking out of my arse too, I haven't arduino'd anything for quite some time.

    The Random Thread.

It seems like basic medic treatment is no longer a right in Australia. Local doctors point blank refuse to see "new" patients in this hick town. So yesterday I drove to the nearest medical center in a nearby city that takes walkup patients. They were chokablock with people in the waiting room. I nearly turned around right there, but I thought to myself "I've come this far I might as well wait it out" So when I booked in I asked the halfwit on reception how long I should expect to wait and she told me "about an hour and a half" That didn't seem too bad so I waited standing up until a seat became available and then sat down. After sitting there for two and half hours with blood filled pus dripping out of my ear I asked the fuckwit on reception how much longer I should expect to wait. She went and counted the stack of admissions sheets and came back and told me "about an hour and a half" so I said to her "so everything you said to me before was bullshit. Then I said fuck this and left.

Thanks Thunder Hell came last night but I didn't see you anywhere. The pressure built up in my head again and it felt like it was going to implode, scoffing fistfuls of prescription meds did jack shit to quell the pain. Then all the pressure stopped and my fucking ear started leaking fluid. I didn't even know that could happen. Now my ear is constantly dripping fluid & blood.
