mutant Posted July 15, 2014 the bridgesii is a "4 winds" clone.... probably my favourite bridgesii in my collection, even though I admit I have seen much of what melted wax and lotusland semimonstrosas can do - but I dont dont know if they count as proper bridgesiis anywayz... this is by far the bluest bridgesii in my collection and it seems to confirm its name by tending to turn 4 rib
Strontium Dawg Posted July 16, 2014 That's some cool patterning in the glaucal bloom on that bridgey.

Im hoping it stays as such but it seems it just comes and goes or is mostly dependent on growth abilities?
someone Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) I have yet to see a stable four winds that will consistently stay four ribbed. However they can grow four ribbed for the majority of time before adding/dropping ribs again. Best thing to do with them is to list on e bay for an absurd price and cash in. Great looking cacti mutant. Edited July 16, 2014 by someone
hostilis Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) In my experience 4 ribs just means that it was starting to get etiolated and dropped down to four ribs then kept growing like that. If you were to cut most of the "4 winds" cacti they would pup normal pups. It's kind of a marketing ploy thing. I have one cactus that went all etiolated and dropped to four ribs, I grafted it and it continued with 4 ribs, I planted it in a pot recently (degrafted) and it's continueing with 4 ribs. It's 18" tall. I could probably sell it for like 100 bucks. Lol. Edit: There's also the semi monstrose bridgesii that add and drop ribs all the time. theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted July 16, 2014 I've been told there is a stable 4 winds variety that doesn't jump around with the ribs, but that most are just either not grown in ultimate conditions or are suffering somehow? This always comes up when a "4 winds" picture is posted LOL

someone Posted July 16, 2014 I have a few four winds going right now and none of them are etioliated. One is a clone similar to the 'melted wax' but distinct from it that goes from four to three ribs. Another is a semi monstrose not widely cultivated that goes from four to three ribs as well. Lastly I have a standard bridge that has just put out three four wind pups. I have considered selling them as I am sure someone will pay an exorbiant amount for them but I'd rather grow them out for future trades. Are there any links to the stable four winds? I'd like to see how it grows. Magical are you sure that is an ss02? I do not grow it myself but from what I have read and seen it usually has two spines per areole. Or maybe once the pup matures it will change to its distinctive growth?

M S Smith Posted July 17, 2014 This is opening as I post. Both of the plants in the photo I grew from Sacred Succulents T. pallarensis seed. Yeah, weird I know, but for someone who can't grow outdoors year round, likes columnars, and appreciates a seasonal flower or two it's nice to have. Even the penis plant seems to revert back to normal growth. I'm going to let these grow out a bit and see what comes of them. And to think I was going to pitch this T. pachanoi stump. One of my favorite plants, and probably my fattest...T. argentinensis. ~Michael~
mutant Posted July 17, 2014 its not supposed to stay all 4 rib... it just tends to go 4 havent grown it long enough to say a lot ... fe. compare it with a semi monstrosa I got some years... but I sure get an updated photo of the top tip that turned 4 again... the difference in blueing is amazing this discussion (about 4ribs and 4 winds) refers to bridgesii and scops, I think, pachs dont go 4 , huh? .. and if they go its a super pedro ;) I haven't ever seen Eillen be visually or otherwise , visually impressive... so the winners for me so far are the semi monstrosas, the blue 4 winds and TIG the fattest bridgesii ever, from OZ cheers will try to get more shots of the clone since you like it
mutant Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) Hey michael penises never revert to normal - some pups sometimes just seem like this awesome photos, and incredible colours in the penis photo the argentinesis seems just like a "short spined" , "true blue" peruvianus to me, to play a bit with names... and the pachanoi seems beautiful, seems a bit like a pachanoi X ? hybrid I have.... PS: I Obviously have to get more "spiney" pachanois... are there any really?? I got Yowie... REA: spiny REAL pachanois are there any? Edited July 17, 2014 by mutant
M S Smith Posted July 17, 2014 Yeah, I was a bit throw off by the penis plant. Honestly though, I wish they would grow normal. It would be neat to pass along columns of a plant we knew was once a penis plant. I agree, the T. argentinensis is some form of T. peruvianus. The base section I got had more developed spines. My environment seems to be the culprit. I have some other T. pachanoi with more lengthy spines. I'll take shot or two and post in a bit. ~Michael~
Halcyon Daze Posted July 17, 2014 Wow Michael, those normal growths on the PPlant could actually produce flowers someday. The pollen will be like gold to breeders.
hostilis Posted July 17, 2014 When pups are young it's not unheard of for them to do rib playing like that magical. Would be cool if it kept going like that, but 4 ribs certainly isn't anything special (IMO) Here's my 4 ribbed bridgesii. Seems to be in their genes to do it sometimes. I didn't know what i was doing at first and this seedling was very unhealthy. It etiolated and went four ribbed, I got a boner about it thinking it was a special "4 winds" "mutant" plant and grafted it. Well it grew about 18" over the course of 9 months and the pere decided it didn't want to take the load anymore. So i cut it off leaving some of it on the stock and planted it in it's own pot. Now it's still 4 ribbed, but I don't want to cut the tip since it looks so cool with this rib count and probably wont continue. I also had a semi monstrose bridge actually from mutant that would add/drop ribs all the time. Was 4 ribbed sometimes. Here's that seedling after grafting. Here it is when it decided to tip over.

nitrogen Posted July 17, 2014 Yah the TBM-B (short form) often puts out pups that look like normal trichos initially.. The TBM-A (long form) does also actually - usually ribs and spines, and then as the pup grows it developed into the singular rounded type shape and goes spineless..
AndyAmine. Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) Only tricho I have had that consistently stayed at four ribs is a scop. Its pups and its cuttings have never shifted and has certain properties that all the other scop clones Ive come across didn't have or were lacking in. hostilis Posted July 17, 2014 I've seen that 4 ribbed scop clone. I would love to get one, but the supplier that sells it only ships to the EU unfortunately.

Dreamwalker. Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) its a rainy cold day an I can't be f..as.. to anything but sit by the comp with the heater blowing posting some pic's... I brought this from an old guy, who grew it from seed...25 years old.....he said "I'm not one of those types who water them a bit regularly, nope! give them a good water then let them dry out for a while". Come mid spring 20c I water my cacti ever 2 - 3 days (they dry out ) and give them a liquid fert mix each week, made of smelly well matured blood&bone with a touch of goose shit..that's lying around......stinks the conservatory out....this cacti grew > 200mm 7", in 4 months for me, didn't even re pot it (summertime). So grew almost 1/3 its original hight...arms aswell..pump them up I reckon.... Myrtillocactus Geometrizans -6.6 °C sweet, edible blueberrylike fruit so here's a comparison of the speed of growth between a cereus right (in-between the trich's, with strong ridges, next to red knife trich) & trich p (san pedro) left.(on the path, red knife)..same age 18mnths same condition...cereus fly....I suspect they may make better rootstock, at least at this size....the little blue one is 1 season old also a myrt. geo... The spots on the trich hybrids are not mites ..its splash back from a dusty floor Can never have enough per for grafting root stock....if your patient I found the cut off leaves sprout roots...still waiting for some shoots..Which may never come....5 months old so far...buts it winter here, so growth is slow.. added ..So if the leaf is cut of with a very thin bit of the upper stem (areole ) it should shoot? these are some 30 - 70mm san p heads on sand removed so I could graft the stems, most root in time ...so they can become new root stock. here are some done earlier...rather than cut little tops off the logs, I cut 100m tops off and grafted them...(placed their tops on sand) Of course its all still new to me..& this is just for others who are starting...The great thing about cacti is the speed you can build up a decent collection..real adventure...love every minute of it...thats killed some time ..but still cold & wet here Edited July 19, 2014 by Dreamwalker
hostilis Posted July 18, 2014 I've rooted pere leaves before and they never will grow any stocks. No areole to sprout from.
