Getafix Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) Acquired this beautiful trich cutting today. Have a lot of hybrids in the garden but not one quite like this. I think it is some sort of Terscheckii or Validus x, what do you guys and girls think? Cheers Getafix Edited November 14, 2013 by Getafix

0 Evil Genius Posted November 23, 2013 This is a very weird one. Looks definately like a Trich but unlike anything i´ve seen. It comes closest to the Camarguensis but some things dont match. See resemblence to Validus too but i have doubts that its a hybrid. Its possible but real hybrids are rare as there are not so many people creating them intentionally. Maybe a natural hybrid but there needs to be a collecting number or something like that. Whats the source of this?
0 mushroomman Posted November 23, 2013 The guy selling the cuttings is getting them off this old bloke who's wife grew them for years but has sadly passed away now and he doesn't know much about them

0 Evil Genius Posted November 23, 2013 (edited) You know, the more i look at it, the more i think this may not be a Trichocereus. Will go through some cactus books later. Edited November 23, 2013 by Evil Genius
0 mushroomman Posted November 23, 2013 I really hope it is a trichocereus Will see if he can get a pic of it flowering.
0 tripsis Posted November 23, 2013 You know, the more i look at it, the more i think this may not be a Trichocereus. Will go through some cactus books later. I've been hoping you'd weigh in EG. Originally I wanted to suggest that it may not be a Trichocereus, but I didn't have any suggestions as to what it could be instead. Doesn't quite look right to me. 0 Evil Genius Posted November 23, 2013 Yeah it has way too many ribs and the rounded areoles look a bit like Soehrensia. But they are rather small and fat so i´ll really have to have a look what else is out there. There arent so many candidates.
0 Evil Genius Posted November 23, 2013 Right now, im thinking into the Direction Browningia. Growth type fits best. Havent found the right species yet but it may be something like that.
