totally agree w/vins- merry xmas everyone.

the thing i've taken the most from learning off this board is, that when alone & tripping, dancing w/yourself is great fun.- used to think it was just me smile.gif

hope you all get your xmas/new year dancing shoes on & have big fun.

Happy solstice!

My year is x-mas free this time round. Been trying to get this fake x-mas thing out of my life for a while and have finally succeeded wink.gif

Happy Solstice yerself!

I´ve also finally managed to divest myself of xmas for once (I hope- I AM in S. America after all).

And I´ve finally found a way to avoid my mother´s solstice ´ceremony´ and having to sit next to a mosquito infested dam near nimbin for three hours while celebrating the very heat that encouraged them to breed.

No. Today I watched the sun rise over Tiwanaku, surrounded by Aymara rituals and new-age rock-huggers. It´s pretty impressive, from an archaeological and astronomical perspective.

Ditto as above to everyone.

It's time to regroup and hopefully plan 2003 to run semi smoothly at least. It's also time to slow down and do not much of anything for a few days.

We don't celebrate the commercial Xmas either ( cards, useless presents, too much food, endless rellie visits....all finished with) . It's amusing how many people seem to 'suffer ' at this time of year because the media tells them so.

regards to everyone.

Dok.

Happy festive season to all!

Ive beenondering about this christmas thing for a while and just how i intend to manage it alongide my own beliefs. hers what ive come to...

The Jesus factor

Hey its a birthday party - the main thing is that everyone has a good time, gets a little intoxicated, has a laugh and eats a lot of good food - especially Turkey mmmmm. Everything else is optional.

Christmas cards

Make up a card with some Amanita muscaria and intoxicated reindeer on the front to use as greeting cards for family, friends and business associates. thre significance will be lost on most but at least you can say youre sticking with the true spirit of christmas

Gifts.

Its great to give them, just Don't get caught up in monetary value.Give small gifts to those you meet on and around the christmas week, an Entheogenic or medicinal plant, some herbal mix, some seeds, a good book you've read and want to share.

You cant go wrong with Books, drugs and confectionary, and plants for those inclined.

Commercial Influence vs. Traditional Values

Theyre both hideous. If you can avoid the religious TV, carols and supposed meaning and avoid spending too much money you are doing well.

Commercialism of the event is nauseating but so is Religious television.

Weve found our own secular or atheist meaning

for the event and you can anyone who tries to hijack your christmas with god that they are most unwelcome to do so, but if they shut up they can stay for a beer and some prawns.

allthe best for the solstice everyone!

as a non alcohol drinker i find the xmas socializing a problem, not helped by a perseived alcohol/shiva antagonism.also i'd have to smoke enough for half a day before i float in the door.

but this year with my star j/brug/shiva combo i'm in there again with no worries.

and a question.

could the timing of xmas and other such events just off the timing of natural cycles be a conspiracy to prevent the experience and celebration of the 'true ' cycles of our existence.just as churches were built on pagan sites to subvert them to christian use.

when i could avoid the xmas game i found this time period to be very powerful for solo psychic voyaging.

Its a shame in Oz about Xmas and easter being set by calendar date.

We're doing the midwinter festival in mid summer, and the spring festival in autumn thereby leaving nothing to get excited about in mid winter and spring except Tax frown.gif

Lucky for some the Solstice and Equinox parties are going mainstream (secular)

mmmm. Herbmajiks place was great last winter

A Bonfire and Invocation of a New healing garden with a ceremony dedicated to the cardinal directions, casting of symbolic 'Baggage' in the form of things to be resolved (relationships, personal issues and items) into a 'Clean' fire - helped with Dragons blood, sandalwood, frankincence, Thuja, mugwort and others (I cast in brugmansia with a request that they stand as guardians as i feel they do in mine) Lots of Mulled wine with secret herbs wink.gif music and much socialising. A fantastic night - I hope it inspires those there and others to use the solstice as an opportunity smile.gif

So which is the festival in which Hypericum is burned? spring or midsummer? Im keen to incorporate that particular practice.

hypericum ripens in summer, that could be a clue. also this thing where you get excited about tax - what the hell are you on and can it be sent by mail?
