Girlfriend vandalised my Pedro (not so bad)

Recommended Posts

So it goes like this...

I have little Pedro that I lives inside my Studio and yesterday because of the Sydney crappy weather girlfriend decided to not commute and work from home. Apparently she gets bored and gets the "awesome idea" to do some "art prints and patterns" with a white board texta on my little Pedro who is already struggling see picture.

I am not too annoyed about it. I guess i just found it so random that i decided to shared this story with you guys.

Any ideas out there on how to deal with this ? Should I wash this prints out. Maybe use methanol ?

Also this little Pedro 52 cm now have been living inside by this window for the last 5 months so it developed this supper thin tip (not a healthy look). I don't understand why because he gets decent amount of sun light right there were he sits next to the window.....Maybe he doesn't like the view. I hope he is not too annoyed about his body paint.

I think it looks awesome. You should leave it how it is.

It's thin tip is because it doesn't get enough light. Trich's are not indoor plants, they like hours and hours of direct sun each day. It will survive inside but it won't thrive.

Hi Blas, sorry to say but only appropriate way to deal with something like that is immediate breakup.

Just kidding. I would probably use ethanol to wash it off. Shouldnt hurt the plant but make sure you do it fast. The Booze will work as a solvent and might make the skin more vulnerable to the paint.

I'm more interested in the sexy pipe. I've got to get myself one of them...

On topic, though, the cacti is thinning due to lack of light and the 'vandalism' is more like art - imo :P

If you lightly scratch a pattern into the skin of a cactus it will become permanent.

I have a dragonfruit/ bromeliad pole by the front door, it all started with one peace-sign and now everybody has signed it.

I was thinking of doing an entire pedro at some stage. Never thought I could add colour, it looks cool! although I wouldn't quite go that overboard with it.

Hey atleast its a little kinder than some girl did to my scopulicola.

My flatemate a couple years ago was a bit of a boozer and used 2 have her mates round 4 drinks at our flat lots.

Came out into the garden to have my morning coffee and cig and someone had dug huge half-moons into my scop with their fingernails, all the way down my very 1st tricho.

Atleast your vandalism came from a place of love!

I dnt c any reason it would damage the plant.

Maybe u shud gv her a pedro of her own and tell her she can go crazy on that one.

Awwww I was gonna mention that

I'm honestly surprised they did so well in that company :P

We should have done some detective work and found the culprit by nail size.

Nice pipe Blas, the pedro should come right.

If it's done with whiteboard pen it should wipe/wash off?

I would'nt sweat it, I use a marker to keep track of the hybrids I make, I right the staminate parent next t0 the flower usualy with an arrow pointing to the areole it originated from. It fades eventualy 6 months or more in the rain & sun. Never seems to hurt them, would probly intefer with the amount of photosynthesis the plant can achieve but this woud be minor I woud think.

The etiolation (stretching) is caused by lack of light as others have mentioned but lack of light in the presence of warmth. They will quite happily go dormant with plenty of light if they are kept cool but if they have low light & a bit of warmth which tells them to keep growing they get like that.

Wow you guys have been awesome with the tips. I edited the posts to blur the background (Thanks for pointing it out Therefore)

Outcome: will keep the painting after all it doesn't look that bad and will tell the lady to leave Mr. Pedro alone which now is going to live in the balcony until he thicken up a little bit.

Thanks for the comment on the pipe I got that one from Paraguay. Apparently is a shamanic one notice the fur on it is form a carpincho who was not hurt in the making of it.

every cutting will thin while its growing decent roots, maybe next growing season chop the top off and the pup will be fatter from a proper root base to feed it.
