    Trees with edible leaves...

Some others......... Spondias dulcis - Hog plum, Ambarella.....juvenile leaves eaten raw, also used as seasoning. Belongs to Anacardiaceae family....think mango, cashew, poison ivy....so sap can be allergenic! Cyathea australis - Tree fern......"The Aborigines ate the roasted stalks of young leaves a s a tonic after any kind of disease". Bombax ceiba - Kapok......young leaves and flowers are edible and used as spice. Trema orientalis - Rough Trema, Pigeonwood, Charcoal tree - Cannabaceae family....leaves were eaten as spinach. Lycium barbarum - Goji.... yup, eat the leaves! Pimenta dioica - All Spice....use fresh leaves to infuse, similar to bay Laurus nobilus - Bay...same as All spice

So........ I've found myself in a position where I will be cookin' n cleanin' n being a lot more 'domestic' as such....and the ol' spag bog recipe can't be used more than once a week...due to a vote, apparently! Goddam democracy they teach kids. More time for gardening though...yay And... i was hoping you kind cooks, chefs, and weekend bbqers can help with your worldly knowledge. I'm sure you all grow your own food, so I put it to you to share your hidden, secret, family food recipes with me.....us......the world......we'll keep 'em secret though......promise! Main courses, salads, entrees, desserts, breakfasts...I wanna know em all! Please share..................

    Problems at work, advice wanted

Sounds like it wouldn't be a nice place to work with supervisors like that anyway!

Bad luck mate. Only suggestion from me would be forget it and move on. Put it in the lessons learned box for next time.

    Cola nitida

Thanks planthelper, I have a few different spp. in 150mm pots. Trying to germinate some more C.nitida atm......will share if successful. I remember reading somewhere that they fruit in the shade, but more prolific in the sun....but not 100% sure on that. Also.....where C.nitida grows as a native, it is a belief that you should not plant these seeds as the person doing so will surely die as soon as it comes into flower. :0.......ah well, can't live forever.
  12. I have a dirty great big, fat canetoad lurking around the bottom of my greenhouse, and a couple of green tree frogs up high. They gotta be feeding on something.

    Piper methysticum

Imo you are correct planthelper. My limited experience with kava is wet feet seems to be a big issue. I have had three identical 40 cm plants side by side in the greenhouse.....one got all droopy, shed its black tipped leaves and eventually died. When another looked a bit said a few weeks later I quickly pulled it out to a dryer location and it sparked up. 3rd one.....same conditions, mix, water etc.....powering on!....go figure Sooky plant in my opinion......but I am no expert. I shall persist

    Cola nitida

Hi Jox, temp very rarely gets into single numbers. Hot, dry, wet, humid, windy........bit of a mixed bag.

    Cola nitida

I have a Cola nitida tree about a metre and a half tall. Struggled for a year or more after I transplanted out of its pot into the ground....full sun....grew a couple of new leaves, but really wasn't doing to well. Put it back in a pot and into the greenhouse for a few months...got healthy again and transplanted to a shady/understory spot thus time. Well drained, irrigated.....seems to be struggling again, no new growth over the wet season. I know they are a slow grower, but done bugger all in a couple of years in the ground. Did OK in a pot. My questions are... Does anybody have experience growing Cola? If so, are there any special nutrient requirements? Other advise on cultural practices would be appreciated. Cheers
