my seedling grafts a few years on

Recommended Posts

thought id come on and share this pic of my freaky bridgesii graft. I have another piece of this i'd be keen to swap for a similarly freaky specimen (*ahem*niggles..)

post-251-0-22052700-1323675172_thumb.jpg

and while im at it heres most of my other grafts. most are about 4 years old, though i cut them back to the stumps almost every year.. Labels were lost for this entire batch of seedlings, could be any of these:

"Los Gentiles", "Los Banos" x T. pallarensis, T. bridgesii x (Juuls X peruv), IcarosDNA, SS01 x SS02, and probably a couple of straight-up bridgies in there too.

ah yeah those last two are ex-grafts, the grafted stumps only just re-puppin..

Trichocereus scopulicola x bridgesii

post-251-0-48190600-1323675208_thumb.jpg

2 T. glaucus seedling grafts, and what I have labelled as T. knuthianus open hybrid. (although I do wonder if i mixed it up with some pasacana seedlings i started at the same time)

post-251-0-11932400-1323675198_thumb.jpgpost-251-0-49275100-1323675201_thumb.jpgpost-251-0-20124400-1323675205_thumb.jpg

and finally,.. this bad boy definately wears the pants in my backyard. this is the second incarnation of this graft, original one was hit with a weird dry rot and managed to salvage the top 2cm or so. I've been meaning to hit it with some systemic fungicide on a regular basis, the variegated ones appears to be rather susceptible to infection.

Impressive ferret.

My favourite would have to be the freaky bridge or the plant in the ninth photo ( labelled 10th graft ) ( juuls x bridge maybe ? :scratchhead: )

niggles sure you're welcome to drop in anytime, although if you can imagine 300 plants in pots crammed into a shoebox, then that's my garden.

EG, that yellow one im pretty sure is a knuthianus x something (likely to be either scop or pach)

tipz yeah the freaky bridge is nice an freaky aint it! don't quite know what it is trying to do at the moment. graft10 is also a very strange one, a very unique looking tricho.. that graft popped out 5 branches straight off the bat, i took one branch off a couple of years ago to make room for the others but they're all growing so slowly i reckon i will take another 3 off as soon as the weather clears up and see if i can get some height to it..

ErraneousHerbalist thats one of my faves too, I think this is it from way back in the day. It has usually grown a lot spikier in the past.

The one labelled as graft 12, i would almost put my left nut on being "Los Gentiles". Looks exactly like a more mature version of mine.

only one that is still nice looking the rest have either died or look so battle scarred they look more dead than alive.

i think a couple more of the normal green plants are starting to show variegation as they get older.

Great thread and beautiful grafts ferret! You have some real beauties there.

Would love to trade for a cut/pup of the freaky bridgesii and that amazing variegated one. I'm sure I've got some plants which you'd be keen for.

Very sheckshie fez, love the spination on the full vari plant :drool2: So hard to find a happy place for the full vari plants, too little light and they do nada, too much and they burn and look shithouse, even in the greenhouse with shadecloth one of mine still burns if it cops too much light. A good stock has helped it become a lil stronger and grow faster but it doesnt look as good as yours. Is it under cover of any sort or out full sun with the rest of your whores, i mean plants?

cheers 2deep i might pencil that in as a likely ID on that one!

hey tripsis you're on, i might wait till end of season and divvy up the freaky bridge ex-graft btween you and niggles. as for the variegate, im going to attempt a regraft of the tip and then graft the following pups if it survives surgery. ill get some grafted bits out there eventually, though be warned it seems like the going rate is 1 left testicle for that baby

PD , you referring to the spination in post #12 i presume? thats a few years old that pic, back on its first stock when it copped full afternoon sun (next to west facing wall). did seem happy there but a year or two later at a different (much shadier) location it succumbed to a nasty dry rot/fungus.. the pic in the first post is where its at now after the tip being regrafted, it only gets about 2-3 hrs direct sun now, thinking of getting it into a bit more sun to get some beefier spination on it, just looks a bit prepubescent where its at now.. but yea its a delicate balance between getting a good looking plant and 'soft-growing' it which is where i think it acquired its fungal infection..

a few more pics, these are ex-grafts off a couple of plants shown in the first post

#10, love the look of this one, I'm assuming it is probably from some of the hybrid seed. Any suggestions as to its affinities much appreciated, haven't really seen the type of growth occurring at the tip before.

#7, gets some nice 'barely-monstrose' patterns once it is off the graft

post-251-0-09986500-1327537032_thumb.jpg

and this TBM aint from seed obviously, but I do like its style. Can't wait till it really starts booming.
