Fruity tobacco to become illegal in NSW in 4 weeks.

Recommended Posts

Fruity tobacco will become illegal in NSW in 4 weeks. Sorry, can't remember where I read the original news item, but I searched the NSW legal instruments database and found the amendment there. From what I gather, each product needs to be specifically named to become illegal, rather than a blanket ban. The law is aimed to stop kids being attracted to smoking, so I am not sure just how far reaching this could be in regards to shisha tobacco. Might be a good time to stock up.

While I certainly agree that tobacco should not be marketed at kids, I am not sure if the fruity tobacco products really are marketed that way.

Ah, noone smokes that fruity stuff cept druggies and muzzos mate! Long as they keep makin those fruit leg openers in the cans there's nuthin to worry about hahahaha snort.

Hey, wait... I think I just worked it out...

Interesting to know if buying a pouch, taking it home and adding flavors yourself suddenly makes your legally obtained, duty-paid tobacco highly illegal... similar to the heinous crime you can commit by accidentally but carefully freezing legal and taxed beers and wines and then defrosting them to nearly double the alcohol content by volume, or running vodka through a still with some added entirely legal plant materials.

The mind boggles, til they make that illegal too.

Tort, there was a news article a while ago about this when it was first proposed, if I recall correctly this is specifically targeting the imported flavoured bidhis, and similar products like Captain Blacks cigarellos which are cigarette sized 'cigars' with a flavoured filter...rather than shisha.

I remember bidhis from when I was a kid in Tweed Heads, they were the first thing I smoked... hadn't thought about them really until now.

We used to take them up on the roof of some resort in Coolangatta and get in their sauna, then jump into the cold pool. Once my friend pissed on the sauna rocks and locked the door and there was so much piss in the air and our lungs... ah, those were the days.

Once I was asking my friend on the phone if he had any, and my Dad, who was somehow omnipresent when I was a kid, overheard me and asked what "bidhis" were. I immediately said "no, beadies, they're a kind of jelly bean" and the lie must have been quick and unlikely enough to sound true... one thing my Dad taught me was how to lie really well.

The mind boggles, til they make that illegal too.

Well, it kind of is already... but thanks for thinking of me.

What is a muzza?

Bidis, those things were great for underage smokers as most headshops didn't care... and they were strong enough to make you chuck, i can remember there was a "blue" pack and I think a "red" pack, one was stronger.

Mu, go to www.homedistiller.org and have a look, or look for "applejack" "freezer separation" etc... basically u want a nice gentle gradual freeze and an equally patient defrost, catch the drips to about half volume. Tends to be a bit cloudy n thick but it makes some psycho "schnapps" from hillbilly wines. Hard to really double, more like 10 percent ends up at 18 percent, and its very hard to break the 35 percent line. It just relies on water freezing quicker than ethanol, and reverse for defrost. Ask the nearest Saskatchewanian about it!

We alwats called them "Bindi's" in my part of Melbourne, came in a little, round pink paper pack with a pink string tying the Bindi, I must admit I didnt relaise there was tobacco in them either, I thought it was only a rolled up leaf or some kind.

i think what the subject is more closley related to some new cigarettes from korea, they come in orange, melon and another flavour, and they do look very childish the packaging, and the sticks look like something out of a barbie packet 20 years ago.

they actually taste good, least the orange ones.

the locals here have started to get them in regularly from korea, quickily becoming a fashion for the younger smokers.

Any hints that this trend on banning flavoured/shisha tobacco will follow in other states?

I'm guessing if the NSW state law passed this, a federal one would be enacted for places like the ACT too? What about for all those people who have already brought shisha tobacco here from overseas, if posession was made illegal then unless there was some kind of informative advertising campaign about this new law then that seems unfair. Also, there are numerous shisha cafes in Australian cities, this would close down their business. That's if shisha tobacco is banned, in addition to the specific brands they're prohibiting, or whatever the new law will consist of. Does anyone have any further info on the specifics of the new law?

What is a muzza?

It's okay, I found the answer on Wikipedia, so everyone can stop the panicked searching now.

"Fashion

Generally a muzza wears clothing such as Adidas or Kapa during the day, while at night while they cruise they wear designer clothing such as Diesel. Muzzas are also often seen wearing bum bags. The usual hairstyle is a quarter-Mohawk, often cut very short in the fringe area. Generally a muzza has a mullet or a rat's tail at the rear.

A muzza generally favours athletic apparel, usually of the brands Champion, Adidas, and Kappa. This is generally used to show off their "gym body". More formal or upmarket attire includes Diesel, Dolce & Gabbana, and P.O. Box.

Muzzas are also known for wearing baseball or trucker caps tipped up on an extremely steep angle, sitting on top of the hair, rather than over it, often held in place with a bobby pin.

Bum bags are also common, to keep mobile phones, wallets, hair wax, and other personal belongings at hand."

WTF? Is this bizarre and hilarious to anyone else, or am I just wasted?

Another classic and surreal line:

"It should be noted that while all muzzas are Wogs, not all wogs are muzzas, as the term wog is one of ethnicity, the term muzza is one of lifestyle and attitude."

Good stuff, I love Wikipedia.

And ban their smoking middle eastern women from thinly-veiled porn for the men.

Yeah, wiki, lovely thing... you get to simulate serious online research whilst learning very little after all, haha. By muzza, I meant muzzo, "moo-zo" ie Muslim people (or anyone brown enough to qualify by Arsetralian standards, anyway.

Yowie, great point... it's really the one I was making to start with :P Coulda been clearer but then I should just make that my signature anyway haha. Hard to convey "aussieboofhead" accent online... no textual way of efficiently capturinng that just-a-bit-slower than usual rate of speech that comes with a lifetime of recreational alcoholism and watching sport on TV.

funny the guv would want to do anything to stop kids taking up smoking anyway, its surely how it was done until fairly recently... most of my mates smoke and we all agree that we probably wouldn't today but we all started at 14 or 15 years of age before we grew a brain. I really wish the PTB would pick one brand of stupidity and stick to it, the psycho phasing routine is becoming tiresome.

avagoodone, or even two,

VM
