Or cold. ;) I have had the same happen. Ultimately I put the plant under the eaves, where sunlight and air could still dry the top. Then basically just left it for a few months (still hasn't pupped yet, despite the ribs being swollen to the point of the cross-section being roughly circular), and it's hard as rock and resistant to being wet.

Just seems like the obvious thing to do. I guess if I was an Aussie... I'd naturally be more inclined to keep the genetics pure.

Sounds fishy to me, for these reasons: A] Caffeine is a shit stimulant. Wears off very quickly (after its short duration), which in an important situation is far from okay. B] Coffee is a diuretic, and in an important situation, having to take time to piss every so often is dangerous. C] Caffeine affects eyesight negatively after a few hours (focus becomes blurry). Most army positions (apart from pencil pushers of course) require perfect eyesight, and having that compromised would be bad. I'm unsure if the effect on eyesight is worse with amphetamines though, maybe someone knows. I know in the air force, pilots get the choice (or did) between dextro and modafinil. I would imagine it would be similar in the army no?

Has anyone tried hybrizing Phleb with something hardier? Is it even possible?

Pethidine analogues, in which a 4-phenylpiperidine nucleus carries any of the following radicals, either alone or in combination: [a] an alkyl radical, with up to 6 carbon atoms, attached to the nitrogen atom: (b] a phenalkyl radical, with up to 12 carbon atoms, attached to the nitrogen atom: [c] a phenalkyl radical, as in paragraph (, with 1 or more alkyl radicals, each with up to 6 carbon atoms, attached to the benzene ring in the phenalkyl radical: [d] an alkylcarbonyloxy or alkoxycarbonyl or hydroxy radical, with up to 6 carbon atoms, attached to the 4 position in the piperidine ring: [e] any combination of up to 5 alkyl radicals and/or alkoxy radicals (each with up to 6 carbon atoms, including cyclic radicals) and/or halogen radicals, attached to the benzene ring. Phencyclidine analogues, being chemical compounds with the 1-alkylamino-1-arylcyclohexane structure, with any combination of the following alkylamino and aryl radicals: [a] the alkylamino radical is 1-piperidinyl, 1-pyrrolidinyl, 4-morpholinyl, or any other radical with up to 6 carbon atoms in the alkyl portion: (b] the aryl radical is phenyl, thienyl, pyridinyl, or pyrrolidinyl: [c] the aryl radical, as described in paragraph (, carries any combination of up to 5 alkyl radicals and/or alkoxy radicals (each with up to 6 carbon atoms, including cyclic radicals) and/or halogen radicals. Fentanyl analogues, in which the N-[1-(2-phenethyl)-4-piperidyl]aniline nucleus has additional radicals, either alone or in combination, attached as follows: [a] an acetyl, propionyl, butenoyl or butanoyl radical, attached to the aniline nitrogen atom: (b] 1 or more alkyl radicals, with up to 10 carbon atoms in total, attached to the ethyl moeity: [c] any combination of up to 5 alkyl radicals and/or alkoxy radicals (each with up to 6 carbon atoms, including cyclic radicals) and/or halogen radicals, attached to each of the benzene rings. Methaqualone analogues, in which the 3-arylquinazolin-4-one nucleus has additional radicals, either alone or in combination, attached as follows: [a] an alkyl radical, with up to 6 carbon atoms, attached at the 2 position: (b] any combination of up to 5 alkyl radicals and/or alkoxy radicals (each with up to 6 carbon atoms, including cyclic radicals) and/or halogen radicals, attached to each of the aryl rings. DMT (dimethyltryptamine) analogues, in which the 3-(2-aminoethyl)indole nucleus has additional radicals, either alone or in combination, attached as follows: [a] 1 or 2 alkyl radicals, each with up to 6 carbon atoms, including cyclic radicals, attached to the amino nitrogen atom: (b] 1 or 2 methyl groups, or an ethyl group, attached to the carbon atom adjacent to the amino nitrogen atom: [c] any combination of up to 5 alkyl radicals and/or alkoxy radicals (each with up to 6 carbon atoms, including cyclic radicals) and/or halogen radicals, attached to the benzene ring. Schedule 3 Part 7 Fentanyl analogues paragraph ©: amended, on 2 September 1996, by section 8(4) of the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Act 1996 (1996 No 133). As well as: controlled drug analogue means any substance, such as the substances specified or described in Part 7 of Schedule 3, that has a structure substantially similar to that of any controlled drug; but does not include— [a] any substance specified or described in Schedule 1 or Schedule 2 or Parts 1 to 6 of Schedule 3; or (b] any pharmacy-only medicine or prescription medicine or restricted medicine within the meaning of the Medicines Act 1981 So yeah, they tacked on the blanket ban there too.

This is a step backwards to say the least. Gambling, alcohol and cigarettes are going to be unaffected I assume?

I think you would have better luck explaining your situation, and asking them to send them with your next order, rather than asking them to send out 30 seeds. That's what I would do anyway.

Pfffft. :/

Stressing is not proven to really help at all. Furthermore, these cactuses are for breeding, and their health is the utmost importance. I also did see that website, but I'm sure there's some plants that have an absolutely foul smell and will deter almost all slugs and snails.
-
So I come and check on my cactuses, and I find the slugs and snails have been having a field day (night). I found MANY snails at the growing tip about to have a munch. Suffice to say they never got their last supper. So rather than going on killing sprees, I'd prefer to just grow a few plants that will ward off slugs and snails very strongly, and probably provide beneficial humidity during the day as well. Has anyone found any plants which are very good for this, and as importantly, won't themselves die? Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like a challenge. :D

What species is this Trichocereus?
CβL replied to Philocacti's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
You're right, they also often have the very wide V-indentation, which is seen on this plant. It's a very nice plant indeed. -

Third confirmation that it is indeed a T. Cuzcoensis. Second plant though, although I agree it does look different to most T. Pachanoi, I wouldn't go as far to say it's a definite T. Macrogonus. It could possibly be a hybrid though (or another one of the lesser discussed varieties). The side-profile is quite a bit more like a peruvianus (more indented), and the emergent spines are also quite long (something not seen often, although can be, on Pachanoi in my limited experience). The areole size is the last hint at peruvianoid genes, as these are very large areoles for a Pachanoi. -
That's extremely interesting niggles. Have you ever tasted anything that you couldn't recognize, or felt was a new flavour? Or do you think it was always something that you have tried before and were 'remembering on your tongue'? Your old housemate's story is also very intriguing. Unluckily for me, I don't have epilepsy and so I don't think I could re-enact that sequence of events. Also interesting is how a certain ergoline alkaloid is showing up in these stories. If anyone knows of any other alkaloids that can result in synesthesia, please share. The closest I have probably come is being able to imagine sounds, and basically to hear those imagined sounds. Mostly it's droning type sounds, which I can syncopate. I can also take existing sounds and shift the pitch somewhat. I can also onomatopoetically turn some sounds into words.
-
Awesome, that's exactly the type of thing. It's interesting because you say you are quite familiar with the shape of a waveform. What exactly did you see? Was it the time-domain representation of the voice? Or was it frequency domain? I'm quite interested in the frequency domain representation, as well as other non-linear representations of sound. I wonder if anyone has had phosphenes generating with a size and shape proportional to frequency and timbre, or some such. Is it controllable? Hmmmm... I know what I would need to test this sort of thing lol.

Thanks man. I'll look into those.

Synesthesia. I'm sure it's mostly pretty well known what it is. But basically, your sensory perception merges together. Hearing colours, seeing sounds, tasting emotions, etc. Is anyone here a synesthete - if so, how does it feel? Has anyone artificially achieved synesthesia - and if you did, how would you suggest a hypothetical person go about trying to achieve it as well (mindset, 'tools', etc)?

http://www.suite101.com/content/why-we-lost-our-hair-a32448 Further evidence for neoteny is hypertrichosis, suggesting many of the genes for rampant hair growth are still intact, and possibly just inactived: http://rafonda.com/speculation_on_speciation_prin.html

It'll just be directly grown from that plant found on Three Kings Island - not new genetic material I'd imagine, as it's not in a wild situation. I'll research layering, I hadn't even considered that. But it would have to be air-layering I'd imagine, the branches appear quite brittle. Thanks for your reply, and looking forward to other replies.

Indeed there is. If the mods have the power, might as well incorporate this thread into the other one.

I think you might be on to something... I'll have to do more research. Thanks for the information.
