GoOnThen
I still haven't been able to find out if this is self-fertile or not? From the link I posted it is most likely not.Is that your graft Jox and is it grafted on pereCheersGot
Jox
Awesome myco, good to hear you've added one to your collection , I would love some pollen from your plant if the flowers open in time, if not I will collect some from mine & send it to you. Hopefully one of us can get some seed happening.@ Got, thanks for that link but my computer wont download it or show it to me, I am pretty stupid when it comes to computers (technology in general ). As for my plant, yes it is grafted onto peres. I was gifted this from 2Deep a few months ago, we were talking about it a couple of days ago & interestingly his aren't flowering & have elongated & become bigger than mine, we think this is to do with the sun exposure as we both have our grafts in a greenhouse with 50% green shade cloth but my plants get 3 to 4 more hours of direct sun!
kadakuda
I have gotten anumber of fruit from lone flwoering plants, but i never tried sowing hte seeds so i am not sure fi they are viable or not, but you could expect fruit some of the time. Jox
One more sleep & I will get to see my first C. hypogea flowers @Got, this plant is 4cm high & 6cm wide, I was thinking about cutting it of the graft when it finished flowering & trying to get it going on its own roots, but today when I turned it around I spotted two pups & one of them is already 1.5cm, so I will try to cut theses off & get them rooted. I was just going to cut these of & let them heal for a couple of days, then sit them on some sand. This method seems to work for most of my cuttings, can anyone suggest a better way to do it for Copiapoa's?Cheersjox

I was very happy to see these this morning, I will move pollen from one flower to another just in case,@Got thank you for the e-mail, that will come in handy & I noticed they had 3 forms of C.hypogea, 2 had an S next to them & 1 had S/F. Anyway we will see what happens.@Myco, I will send you a PM about pollen If anyone wants to add photos of there Copiapoa's, I would love to see them!!Cheersjox Edited January 10, 2013 by Jox

GoOnThen
Cool flowers Looks like there is no shortage of pollen in those flowers.I actually have three Copiapoa. I forgot about the other one because its on its own roots so it not with the other two. I will post some pics at some stage. As far as rooting the pups go I have no idea how easily they root. I seem to have problems rooting pups or degrafts of most things other than the real easy ones like trich's and the like.CheersGot

kadakuda
Wow, you guys can get tehm as assorted cactus there? here they are still collectible amiong a lot and are still somewhat pricey (at least compared to nursery types). and its even fairly symetrical, what a beauty.all my c. hypo are grafted and completely fucked up from rodents and snails. I almost forgot how stunning they can be.does Australia have hte lizard skin cv? its a really rough textured skin
Jox
Hey Kadakuda,I have seen seed of the C.h, lizard skin for sale in Australia, but I don't think they knew what they were on about so I did not buy them. I did buy some from a seeds from a company in Italy but had zero germination with them , which is a shame because they would have to be one of my favourite cactus! If anyone has a few Copiapoa hypogea & are keen to trade one please let me know. I have grafted one of my pups onto peres & would like to swap it, so I have some new lineage to make seed from next spring.Cheersjox
