mysubtleascention Posted December 18, 2014 What's the benefit of grafting trich seedlings to trich seedlings when they're so close together in age? well.. if you don't have any other stock to graft on .. and you want to save a particular seedling ..
interbeing Posted December 20, 2014 What's teh white fuzz on it? Description: Produces lots of sculptural green monstrous and crested shapes with white wool on the top and any or a few very short bristly reddish spines. http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/CEREUS/Cereus_sp/Cereus_sp_wild_crest/Cereus_sp_wild_crest.htm
mutant Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) I hey got one echinopsis I haven't shown a lot, also does that white wool fuzzing , its very slow and also variegated. Unfocused photo though. another specimen of semi-monstrosa bridgesii , dont remembr if its melted wax, or "lotus land" , probably the latter Edited December 21, 2014 by mutant
hostilis Posted December 22, 2014 Mutant, that looks like a typical cereus peruvianus monstrose rather than an echinopsis to me. Is that a brevispinolosus in the foreground of that bridgesii picture?
mutant Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) No its not a common Cereus peruvianus mosntrosa, note I have grown several from seed, and indeed they look somewhat similar when small / seedlings. The thing is C.peruvianus grows very fast, while this this goes very slowly and some formations are quite different and unique dare I say. I will show it better some next time. The columnar in the foreground is Hildewintera CV alpha Edited December 22, 2014 by mutant
modern.shaman Posted December 22, 2014 Cereus ming thing
mutant Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) cant find it, yeah I think it came as a cereus not echinopsis... not the "ming thing" though... there you are... veeery slow... Edited December 22, 2014 by mutant
hostilis Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) Definitely not "Ming Thing" And I've seen lots of Cereus peruvianus monstrose that look just like that. Maybe not the typical columnar one, but the typical one Atlman's sells, I think it's sometimes called "Cereus peruvianus monstrose cv Mini" Except yours is variegated. http://cactus-bg.com/blog/kaktusi/cereus-peruvianus-f-monstrosa-i-tsereus-peruvianus-monstroza-225/ Edited December 22, 2014 by hostilis
mutant Posted December 25, 2014 (edited) "Cereus peruvianus monstrose cv Mini" pics?? is this for real? I have't seen some of the marks (horizontal markings) in others, namely C.peruvianus. This has to be a slower form if its indeed that. I have grown peruvianus monsters from seed and its miniature indeed, but only at first. And it grows really fast. so its not a CV if its a seedling... and if its from a peruvianus mother, then how come does it grow so slowly? Edited December 25, 2014 by mutant
hostilis Posted December 25, 2014 (edited) That's just what it's called mutant. Maybe the cv part isn't in there, but I recall seeing it on the labels. I don't know the inner workings of Altman's clone namers. lol. And maybe the reason it's so slow is because a lot of the time mutants are slower than the normal healthy clones. mutant Posted December 26, 2014 There's no real reason to argue more about a name, indeed it seems like lots of stuff that get called cereus peruvianus monstrosa or cereus mosntrosa CV something, and there's simply no way to be so sure about the species. Okey stubborn american from the frosty zones, I found it. http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/CEREUS/Cereus_sp/Cereus_sp_cristata_variegata/Cereus_sp_cristata_variegata.htm these are all (its got 3 different strains) miniature species and noone gets that name CV mini - you see they're all mini... And guess what, just because someone decided to name it such, it doesn't make it such.. For years, maybe ten or more, people were calling an obvious pachanoi a "short spined peruvianus" just because MS Smith labeled it such... Calling this a peruvianus is hasty at least

irabionist Posted December 31, 2014 ouft! I've wanted a T. shaferi monstrose for quite a while! I'm glad to see that the true monstrose myrtillo's stay spineless! Can't wait for mine to get bigger!
zelly Posted January 1, 2015 Cereus ming thing here's my ming thing, which strangely enough, is a spitting image of mutants plant, albeit slightly larger....
mutant Posted January 1, 2015 zelly that is true amp>>> are you sure this is myrtillocactus... none of the mosnter forms I got are spineless... Even though I am not so sure they are all geometrizans to be honest... It really looks like a spineless bridgesii... any other pics - source? or like penis plant clone A without areoles to pup from.... would love to see more pics
hostilis Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) That looks nothing like the one I bought as ming thing. Mine looks like this. Dark skin, no red spines, a tiny bit of white fuzz, doesn't crest or variegate. Altthough mine was labelled as Cereus forbesii monstrose "Ming Thing" And mutant, I've seen plants being sold as spineless myrtillocactus monstrose that look just like that before. mutant Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) Hey I am not doubting... Okey, I can see this as a myrti okey now who will send me one cutting? -- but how does it grow... are there areoles?? it looks like another penis plant, perhaps the only one at that! also RE> ming thing, I can see the motive it does... mine is not so universal in the growth like these you show, equally large small crests with a certain shape.. also mine had a part of it beheaded in the windstorm.. I couldnt do it better... I hope I can root it so I have two ofthose muthas... but boy I tell you they grow very slow... so much I wonder if I had fuckedf up the substrate not giving enough drainage... I do such stuff sometimes... to be honest, I dont have it long enough to say a lot... I am still learning what the 1st pachanoi monster/crest can do and I have it 5+ years now... and even the cresty cresty form surprises me boy, dont you love monsters?? Oh, I can happily announce a myrti crest arrived in OZ... this shit should exist more over there!! blue crests are awesome.. I am also begining to doubt the myrti crest is a geometrizans in species... Edited January 4, 2015 by mutant
amp Posted January 5, 2015 I don't know why it's sideways. But yeah - its a Myrtillocactus. Unless the occasional aeriole pops up I don't know how it's propogated. I aquired it on the big auction site from A guy that specializes in Monstrose and crested clones. The other photo is a "mini" crest of the same species. One of at least 3 distinct crested clones. The last photo is a "pepperoni plant" - T. santiaguensis monstrose.
irabionist Posted January 5, 2015 I'm pretty sure it's a Myrtillocactus as well. They seem to pop up with an occasional areole and the pups I have seem to have a few areole's.
