Gollum Posted October 7, 2012 Waterboy, looks like you wash the roots under some water to clean? I always wondered whether i might be doing any damage to roots while rinsing and repotting. I'd like to hear your root cleaning/ repotting procedure if you dont mind, and maybe any tips or recommendations. You have some nice healthy looking Lophs there and its always interesting to hear how other loph enthusiasts go about this. watertrade Posted October 7, 2012 (edited) urr - If you mean me Gollum - watertrade ( there is a waterboy too ) I just hit them with the hose while holding my finger tight over the end. its probably a bit harsh and probably does do some damage but I have done it for ages and I like to make sure they are clean. I figure if I let them dry for a few days any damage will heal anyway. I was just ( a few minutes ago!) reading about growing Ariocarpus and it said you shouldn't disrupt the root ball when repotting - specifically said don't hose the roots off! These cuties came from Watertrade, Thanks mate the rest have been shared with friends. Last but not least, these are three cuttings Ive let scab up and now am trying to root. incognito Posted October 11, 2012 (edited) Today I potted up my euphorbia obesas and repotted a few lophs. My cacti have been WAAAAy neglected over the last 12 months, so today I gave ALL of my trichs I had left in my lil cacti house to dad to plant in his cactus garden. Oh I potted up a shitload of penis cacti cuttings I took last year which I totally forgot about. Totally shrunken and I'm amazed the majority survived. On the plus side they have roots galore so should swell and put on growth quickly. Decided I'm just gonna keep my few hoyas, lophs and obesas here to look after, as I really don't have the time to manage a freaking nursery lol plus just havin a few of my priZe specimens is therapeutic to fuss over before I head into work. CβL Posted October 12, 2012 Yesterday I repotted a few bridgesii seedlings that were getting too big for their britches. I had to salvage the pots from my potted salvias, which could not be saved. Today I chose the three most rootbound seedling containers (in 250g cottage cheese containers), and replanted the seedlings into three, 2L ice-cream tubs. Then a few of my other pots got shifted around, as I forgot how high the sun rises during summer (it was damn-near the top of the sky). HI bogfrog, I'm pretty sure that because the degrafted plants don't have a main tap root and rather a flat bottom with fine roots coming out, the underside of the loph provides a convenient little hidy hole for them to live. bastards. Its been crap weather for almost 3 weeks but its nice to have a rainy day to get some important cacti jobs done. Plus my boyfriend told me i wasnt allowed to put down more seeds until i had dealt with last years crop. Just stopped for a smoko break, i'm repotting 12 different crosses from Nitrogen. Getafix Posted October 13, 2012 Gave all my seedlings a good fertilise today. Going to have to repot them all again soon. Repotted all my Peru and Bridg cutting that have good roots now, into their own pots. Moved my Werder seedling out of the cupboard and into my little glasshouse.
