Evil Genius Posted August 29, 2011 (edited) Mutant. Very crazily looking Plant i got from someone who collected it in the wild in the 70´s. Didnt know where exactly though. It looks very much like a Trichocereus Bridgesii. Nice Cactus. Been through some hard times judging by the scares. Its slowly recovering and pupped twice already. Does someone know what cristate this exactly is? Was sold to me as Tr. Pachanoi Cristat. Trichocereus Lobiviodes! Very interesting Cactus! Never seen anything like it. Someone sold this to me a Freya Hybrid. Looks a lot like Trichocereus Terscheckii or Pascana. Take a look at the crazy pup on top. Bought it as Peruvianus a few years back.Ist this the Luther Burbank Trich? Trichocereus Pachanoi. Snail Damage. tripsis Posted August 29, 2011 That first one is crazy. What is it?
Hellonasty Posted August 29, 2011 At first glance I thought that first one had a loph grafted on top !
ballzac Posted August 29, 2011 Looks like just a slightly monstrose form of pachanoi Tripsis. Is it possible that the second one is pachanoi too EG? It's hard to tell without seeing the whole plant, but it looks pachanoid to me, in spite of some more bridgesiod traits.
tripsis Posted August 29, 2011 I can go with it being pachanoi, but 'slightly monstrose'? Look at how many pups those pups have on them. It's acting like a caespitose Loph.
Quill Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) I thought that was a loph graft too. What a remarkable plant. Nice sausage tersheckii/pasacana. I wouldn't worry about the scars or snail damage, they stand as testament to their resilience All nice plants, would love to see updates of these. Especially on the "slightly monstrose" pachanoi Cheers EG Edited August 30, 2011 by Quill
Alice Posted August 30, 2011 I can go with it being pachanoi, but 'slightly monstrose'? Look at how many pups those pups have on them. It's acting like a caespitose Loph. Damaged apical meristem? Bit hard to see from the photos.
zelly Posted August 30, 2011 First 3 including the crest appear to be pach. Nice plants EG.
Evil Genius Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) Hi Guys, thanks for your comments. The first one is probably a Pachanoi i got from a private collector. Nothing grafted. All grew like this by itself. I suggest this might be a spontaneous mutantion from some kind of damage. I´ll definately graft this one to find out if it continues to go monstrose if grafted on another host. But for this year, grafting season is pretty much over so its on top of my list for next year. I encluded another Pic of the one i think might be a Bridgesii somehow. But its definately a very strange one and i hope to get it propagated. It was in pretty rough shape when i got it and it slowly starts to recover. Evil Genius Posted August 30, 2011 Some more pics. Gnostic Garden Clone Columnar growing Echinopsis Peruvianoid or Macrogonoid Trichocereus Bridgesii The monstrose again without the messed up color. Trichocereus Bridgesii? Looks very interesting. Color is very shiny yellow. Trichocereus Brevispinulosus. Yellowish green color might be typical for it. I´ve put lots of fertilizer in the pot this year. Trichocereus Macrogonus KK2151 Trichocereus Multihybrid Yellow California
Evil Genius Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) Bridgesii Weird pupping after damage. Peruvianoid Pachycereus. Pecten Aboriginum or pringeli probably. I needed to cut the spines a little bit. Its my most dangerous one. Gymnocacylium Balidianum Wild Hybrid. Recovering from molestation in the past. Bridgesii pupping Peruvianoid re-pupping on pup that stopped active growth due to snail bite. I will be giving out some rooted cuttings of this one soon. Saved the craziest one for last. Bad pic but its the last one the camera took before the batterie was empty. Its probably the head of the crazy pupping monstrose pic in the first post. I dont know what that is but most of the head poduces wooly growth and its not wool from bugs. dollarjuice Posted August 31, 2011 Love that Trich. Multihybrid EG it's beautiful.
CβL Posted August 31, 2011 Thanks for the photos EG, it's very interesting to see what's growing over in Germany. That 5-ribbed potential bridgesii is quite interesting indeed. The fact its ribs are so swollen might indicate it wants something.
Philocacti Posted August 31, 2011 beautiful specimen thanks for sharing
Evil Genius Posted August 31, 2011 Thanks guys. I have doubts about the fourth pic in the last post really being a Bridgesii though. I mean, it definately has bridgesii in it but there are also Peruvianoids that look a little bit like this. If anyone has thoughts on it, i´d be happy to hear em. bye Eg
bogfrog Posted September 2, 2011 the one that stuck out to me is the possible brigesii in the third to last post, it looks very similar to a plant i have which i consider to be a pach - brigesii hybrid. i do love those hybrids. all very beautiful plants you have there, and some very unique ones!! excellent hunting
mutant Posted September 6, 2011 nice to see your collection EG cristata seems pachanoi, like the one I got from a german nursery pachycereus pringley I would say - lost one from frost, growing a couple now I bet the 'monstrosity' is viral or something, temporary. if the crazy pupping insists you might wanna consider witches broom and guarantine. i have too problem with snail damage in outside plantings . I wonder what people do to protect their greenhouses from snails. they seem to have a taste for pachanois and bridgesii's goddamn them! the one tagged peruvianoid might be / have bridgesii in it. need to see more of its body. I got a bridgesi that has similar spination
Evil Genius Posted September 6, 2011 Hi Mutant, yeah i agree the monstrose pachanoi is probably infected with something. Maybe witches broom. I will put it in quarantine over winter. The Pachanoi Cristata´s are very common in germany because people around mass producing them. It´s a nice plant but it grows too slow. I think about grafting some of them in the next growing season. How bad is frost in greece? Snails are really a problem for me. I have lots of space but none of it is protected from snails. I need to walk around every evening to collect them before they can damage more plants. Because of the Bridgesii. If you mean the same one i mean, i agree. 4th pic in Post 10. Everytime i browse Trouts San pedro Book, i get the Impression it resembles Tr. Santaensis is a lot. What do you think?
mutant Posted September 6, 2011 I dont think pach cristata is such a slow grower if you take big cuttings... but yeah grafting them in a big tricho stock would be interesting I dont get frost in my roof at all, but I get it in my outside thing hmmmm I don't know about santaensis... future will tell!
