Potential EGA International Headliners List - Your Vote

Hey SAB

If you can take the time to make a vote, this is a loss wish list and your feedback will help guide us in the decision process for this year’s headliner.

Please if you have time to vote that would be appreciated. I hope to have the voting all wrapped up by next week or so and start the processes of making EGA’s first formal invitation.

Now the names below are just possibilities, it often takes a long and interesting processes to get potential speakers to commit but if we start our wish list and work from the top down, i am sure we will all be happy with the resulting headliners for our 2011 gathering.

Just keep in mind this thread is only about International headliner, we will open up our General 2011 EGA submission processes very soon. Where anyone can make a submission from Australia or abroad that would like to make a contribution to the program, so if you have someone you would like to see on the program encourages them to make a submission when the time is right (Best get them thinking about it now however).

Thanks as always SAB, look forward to seeing who you are interested in us supporting coming downunder to make a contribution to this year’s EGA.

Some Update Info On EGA

EGA has grown well beyond its small roots and is now by no means just a conference, but a galvanized and proactive presence in the community. We have an active political/policy group, a journal publication, a large scale art project under way, and most recently EGA has helped re-vitalize the possibility of psychedelic research in Australia. EGA’s impact is Australia-wide involving people from all over the country on different projects and at different levels, and all because we believe they/we can make a change.

What is apparent is that its longest serving creation, the conference, is ready for a well-deserved break. Many of its longest serving contributors (Volunteers) have signed on to our 2011 conference with the intention of making it their last. Other growing and developing projects will continue to flourish during conference downtime, and when the time is right, we will see who is interested in continuing the conference side of EGA. It would be great to see it evolve in a new format that fuses the best elements of the outdoor and indoor into one event on a more sustainable rotation of an EGA conference every 3 years, or so the plan goes

This 2011 EGA conference is going to be a very special event. There is already a fever out there in anticipation of this year’s gathering, and the challenge remains to build an almost perfect fusion of art and mind. In essence EGA has matured to the point where we no longer feel we need to have a big sound component and wish to reinvest that energy in to the conference space with visionary art, sculpture and lighting. This is a trajectory we have very much been exploring anyway.

We also wish to expand the workshops into two streams - the traditional plant oriented space, and a therapy (and transpersonal) based stream - as well as expanding the healing space. we are going to extend the workshops and some lectures well in to the Monday as we do away with the sound aspects. We feel these changes will very much resonate with EGA participants and the event’s formatting.

In an anticipation of the space B)

Neal Goldsmith has a new book "Psychedelic Healing" and I think he is a really significant fresh voice in the scene.

Kathleen Harrison wowed people at Basel with her talk on Salvia.

Rick Strassman is a champ.

Luis Eduardo Luna told me he wants to come to Australia and talk and speak out on certain issues six years ago!, and he is a great guy, with so much to share. I reckon he is THE man in the world to talk about Ayahuasca.

I would also add Sandra Karpetas, as she is not only the person behind the Iboga Therapy House, but is the main co-ordinator of the psychedelic emergency areas at Burning Man and Boom festivals.

So those would be my top picks. (not in any order)

--

Ott has been in Oz before... and talked at Exodus festival.

Christian Rätsch has been here before, in 2002.

Trout has been here a couple of times at the exodus festival and can really spin some words!

Graham Hancock is a great talker and really nice guy.

I heard a talk given by Earth and Fire Erowid a few days ago. It was called "Drug Geeks" (on the Psychedelic Salon podcast). I was really impressed. Those two seem to be the most interesting and progressive people in the psychedelic/ethno community. No conspiracy theory. No millenarianism. No self-righteousness. Just two intelligent and articulate people with novel and unique ideas. (Not that I have anything against the conspiracy/millenarian/pat-yourself-on-the-back crowd; some of my favourite authors are the poster children for that branch of rhetoric!)

Also, Luis Eduardo Luna is a good writer; calm and balanced psychedelic spirituality at its best.

My vote is for Mr. Hancock.

PS: Andy Letcher's book is apparently riddled with errors... Just letting you know.

Given the political climate surrounding our plants at present I think it would be beneficial to choose international speakers wisely, in an attemp to further our freedom to use plants.

I think that Luis Eduardo Luna's position as the director of Wasiwaska, Research Centre for the Study of Psychointegrator Plants, Visionary Arts, and Consciousness, will go a long way toward providing real evidence of the benefits of ayahuasca use in society.

Jonathan Ott with his experience in Entheogenic drug policy reform could also help us steer the fight in a wining direction.

Great lineup Ronny, thanks putting it up for vote.

Funny as I read that I'm listening to Keith Richards autobiography 'life' audio book read by Depp! Classic stuff.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. It is good to gage the community and see who is of interest, there are many reasons why potential speaker may not be able to come, most often timing is the critical factor, but there can be many other circumstances, but we can only try. So think of this as a wish list.

If you get time we would love to see more vote, and best if you peruse the links for more info all the candidate.

Like I said this info will be used in conjugation with other date and then we will start the invitation process asap.

EGA has had a good track list of headlines, and I feel this years will be very much the same.

Your feedback is always very important with this community event.

vote 1 for Johnny Depp

Hey Synchromesh

as i said above

"Just keep in mind this thread is only about International headliner, we will open up our General 2011 EGA submission processes very soon. Where anyone can make a submission from Australia or abroad that would like to make a contribution to the program, so if you have someone you would like to see on the program encourages them to make a submission when the time is right (Best get them thinking about it now however)."

anyone can apply when we get the submission for 2011 open, so feel free to get people thinking about it.

but no, I can not add any more to this list for now, I have to get to work on securing our headliners.

The list was put together by asking the core EGA volunteers who they would like us to support coming over this year, just so you know how we compiled it and now we are asking for SAB feedback to use all that info to make a judgment call as a starting point for this years selections.

Thanks for your Votes everyone, i will correlate the results in a day or so with our internal EGA poll and go from there. Very much appreciate your input.

This is the last chance to make your vote count.

We should be taking open submissions for contributions/workshops/presentations by the end of the month, so stay tune.

I just noticed Stan Grof at the bottom of the list.

was he a late entry? It would be amazing to hear him talk, and i wonder if word in the holotropic breathwork grapevine has got back to him about EGA.

Pity no-one voted for him, as that would be amazing for him to be the headline speaker.

Cheers, Obtuse.

I have been to one of Stan Grof workshops (non breathwork) and seen him give a talk, very good, i think we would all be happy to see him do so in Oz.

I Am not sure if he would still travel to oz as he is over 80 but be nice if he would.

thanks for adding stan, mr simulacrum dearest

i really hope that the EGA crew will pay little heed to a poll of 25 people when making their decision. no matter if cunts vote for him or not, grof is by far the most worthy candidate for what will be the LAST EGA.
