coin Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) yeah, hope everyone has a good day, and if you find yourself in one of those periods of rushed / compressed / stressful times, just remember to take a breather & try to stand back a bit .. can often be a pretty challenging time .. but it doesn't last long and in those moments of mutual understanding, appreciation, and communion of family and friends - really savour it .. again it doesn't always last long have fun & be safe Edited December 24, 2007 by coin

incognito Posted December 24, 2007 merry xmas to all youse, eat lotsa tucker and drink a beer or 30, ive had a wonderful morning surrounded by blissed-out children , so wonderful to watch their smiles and excitement, even on the old blokes faces unwrapping their pressies. went lookin at lights last nite and a few of the old locals where wandering around town dressed as santa giving out lollies and stuff. this town has the most amazing feel this time of year, a brief holliday from the enduring hardship and stress of a drought stricken town, the feel in the air is one of relief and child like magic and wonder. this to me is what chrissy is about, spending time with the fam and watching children in rapture. im blissin out on my toasted ham sanger and can of fosters right now!!! and im pissed on just one at like 9am!! love u groovers. ring ya mums up and tell em u love em~~~!! xxx

cycle Posted December 25, 2007 Happy Christmas or Solstice or Chanukah or whatever to everyone. I've never celebrated it but my wife is into it and our one year old daughter seems to like the loot. The religious aspect irks me maybe I should call it Dawkinsmas?

Conan Troutman Posted December 25, 2007 (edited) indeed. I am interested in peoples feeling towards christmas in terms of the general consumer sellout it has become? i guess most people here just did the holidays and chillin with family n jazz Yeh merrys Xmas Hohohohoh!! (Thats right I said it!) I thinks i a toss up between outright consumerism and bringing the general of idea of christmas to masses, in that regard I will admit all our spending is certainly helping the notoriety of xmas spread... EDIT* oh yeh and I hope jebuz comes and fill all your stockings! Edited December 25, 2007 by Conan Troutman

The Dude Posted December 25, 2007 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and all that! As commercial and fake as much of it is, there is a definite underlying positivity in everyone during christmas, I dig it a lot! I was considering that christmas is really a celebration of 'the birth of the sun' or when the sun stands still, dies and is born again as it continues its path.. all relative to our spin, relative to us, the 23rd of december is when the sun stands still in the sky. 25th of december is the date of the solstice upon establishment of the Julian Calendar in 45 BC, so that stays as the date of the birth of the sun. I was thinking about some inner personal change that has occured over the past few weeks or so, seeming to culminate over the past few days, things like personal mindset etc.. things hard to quantify, seem to have all 're-freshed' with this re-birthing of the sun. There's a refreshing air to everything after our collective experience of a celestial rebirth. Was also thinking that the 4 cardinal 'points' of the 2 equinoxes and 2 solstices are optimum times to re-evaluate your personal change, when the sun stands still in the sky, to be able to stand still yourself and reflect on it all. It is little wonder then that these dates are celebrated so highly in religious teachings often thought to be esoteric guidelines for the use of 'sacraments' on these dates to aid in the understanding of reality, through having a religious experience. I was just wondering if anybody partakes in some kind of ceremony involving higher states of being, during what is a liminal time, when the sun stands still. Too hectic and busy with the commerical distractions, and the traditional customs of the society. True Religious Experience used to be our society. Pagan rituals based on astrological signifiers of 'seasons' combined with plant sacraments prompting this whole love of communal celebration and giving and ecstacy through group experience. It is hillarious when christmas cards show gnomes on amanita muscaria mushrooms winking at you. beckoning the question.. just wtf is so funny gnomy!?! what are you trying to suggest here? When you look at a priest with color coordinated garb as a huge symbolic representation of an amanita mushroom, complete with white polka dots and frilly sheathe, it's funny to think even he probably is oblivious to the esoteric 'right in front of your eyes' hillarity that's going on. Saturnalia Merry Christmas every one of us!
