sub season

I don't understand! how come everyone gets like, hundreds, but the only patches i can find have only like 2 or 3 a week...totally unfair. oh well.

edit: also (sabretooth reminded me) what's with display pics of flowering lophophora taken form above? there are like four people who have them and i keep mixing them up.

I met my first FOAF today.

after not finding anything around newcastle he made a trip down to sydney, seeing as there seems to be a fair bit of action down there and found his very first subs  he is very pleased. found on woodchips, northern sydney in suburbian area.

hopes to find a patch closer to home, or it could become an expensive hobby traveling to syd everytime

Went for a stroll today to see if i could find the dung lover that was in the same area last season.

They were there alright, and not exclusivley on cow dung. Seems to be an agressive lil psilocybe but if so i dunno why i dont see more of it on my travels.

Nat found a lil (active)psilocybe growing from roo poo aswell, couldnt find any last season but this season here she is.

a foaf found about 50 today on woodchips in a park with a beautiful creek down the middle. There must have been at least another 30 pins coming up. he said he will return in a couple of days. and also he said they were very tasty and full of flavour.

In the Blue Mountains :) They were all on man made public garden beds.Found a lot more a few days later in the same area, hiding in the long grass that had grown over the wood mulch base, and some that had taken their time to push their way up through the pine needles - unfortunately, I was on my own and I dont own a digital camera, Im going to to try to borrow one before I go out next time.

Looks pretty subbly to me, just a baby one.

Find ones that look like that on most picks.

Ive seen P.subs growing directly from wombat dung a few times before. Ive also noticed that sometimes when subs dry out quite abit and then rehydrate from more rain the caps can often turn out that dark bluey colour such as the specimens in Passive Daemonds pics.

for those of you that havent seen it.......check this,

and this.

There is alot more out there than just plain old subs. Of course there is ALOT of variation in the P. subaeruginosa appearance but its the details that you cannot see that make the difference in identifiying the true ID of the mushroom.

All the more reason to get out of the car parks and playgrounds and out into the valleys and mountains.

Anyone wanna volunteer to have a GOOD look at this lil poo lover and suss out an ID???

Nice finds everyone, happy hunting!

I have been romping every day this week and have been finding some ridiculously large specimens, whole patches where each specimens cap diameter exceeds the size of a bic lighter!

Where's MORQ at these days?

It is dependant on the environmental influences sphinx.

From memory subaeruginosa can be found till around late october in NE melb if weather is favourable. March-October is possibly the wide ends of the season for melbourne winter lovers.

Nice to see the coprophiles out PD :D thanks for sharing.

Maybe other people have been harvesting your FOAFs sub patch when you're not there?? :D

I dont even go to alot of my old patches for this reason.

What I try to do is look for places that I think people wouldnt have thought of looking or maybe places that are perfect but are easierly missed or even just a hassle to get to.

You gotta be creative, you cant just rock down to your local shoping centre carpark and expect to find a moster patch

Does anybody know whats going on with these white gilled subs. I tried to get a spore print and a got nothing which probably means that they have released all there spores.

I have never seen a sub that has whitish gills when its dried, but in this one patch they all had white gills from the pins to the fully grown and even the decaying ones.

What would cause this, has the patch been sprayed or some thing???
