These two are my first attempts at grafting so they are a bit rushed (the peres were small when the grafts were done).

Even so they are a late entry to the comp.

- Seed germinated 23/04/07

- Grafted on 02/06/07

- Latest update 13/07/07

But as there was little to no intrest in competeing this year im wondering if we should save for next year and try to get more people in. I think now we should cut down prizes to only for largest and first flower lophs.

I'd be interested in competing next year but would have more chance if at least 1 outdoor section was keep in the comp.

I've come to this a little late and am not sure on the yearly start dates and entry requirements.

I'll get my stock ready for next year.

I should be ready to do a little grafting next season, I have lots of tricho hybrid seeds which might be interesting. I just need to get a bit more peri.

dang you guys are absolutely blitzing my efforts.

think my problem has been letting em get too cold and light levels.

now i have a big foam box to chuck em in and a reliable timer to turn the power on and off. so heres hoping next year i will get some better gains (as well as losing less grafts)

still here is a pic for those interested.

if the intrest is there we can have more sections, problem is the number of people who expressed intrest and the number that are competing is not the same.

Hey guys, I'd be keen to compete next year. I have made a couple grafts now (started back in ~April), but they are nowhere near as impressive as yours at this point (tho one of my originals has begun to pup!!). My prob was I didnt have enough stock at the beginning of the year, so I had to start late (very late...).

I hope to have a forest of stock and a heap of seedlings (lophies, trichs, arios) at the end of this year, but I'll probably just potter along and graft as I go. Depending on my financial (and peres/trich stock) stance at the end of the year, I'll buy up a heap of seeds and enter the comp and see if I cant take some of you old pros down

p.s. remember that pers grafing tek I did up a couple months back? That was my first graft and was very successful - but is still only fairly small. I will try to get some pics up into that thread when I can :)

Hi guys,

Would any of you be able to help out with a cut or two of peres so I can start building up some stock for next year? Would be much appreciated.

Please PM me if you can.

Thanks :)

AJ

Well I finally got around to taking a couple of photographs like I promised back in March :bong:

These 2 are my only entries, all the subsequent graphs I've done have met 1 horrible fate or another.

They have been grown outside the whole time. Growth basically stopped a couple of months ago due to the cold but they are now in a small greenhouse again and growing nicely. One of them even appears to be splitting from the current growth spurt.

As you can see from the next picture a mouse took a liking to the smaller of the 2 about 5 weeks ago. It doesn't seem too concerned though.

so i dont win?

maybe i could just take the loph seeds and the bridgesii cutting and leave the rest for the next comp and chuck in a 1 inch L williamsii caespitose pup and 20cm T pachanoi cutting.

I hope this works...

my first attempt at a graft, seem to have taken, which is good. There is a new growth already coming through.

I tried a couple more yday, another loph / pachanoi, and a loph / bridgesii, which should be interesting...

How hard is pere grafting, and can it be done from clone cuts, or does it need to be seeds? (better size for seedlings i guess.)

peres grafting doesnt need to use seeds. cuttings are fine. seedlings go fine on adult peres. basically same process as grafting on to trichocereus.

other people have great results from grafting onto peres. also has the advantage of being able to plant more plants in a specific are than you would with trichocereus. i havent had much luck with peres though. but i have only tried growing peres one time.

here is my williamsii var cardona grafted onto pachanoi for the comp. has the 2nd and 3rd flowers. they are a little mangled from rough cross pollination. i use tweezers to pull out some stamens from one plants flower and rub them on another plants flower.
