Well I finally got around to taking a couple of photographs like I promised back in March These 2 are my only entries, all the subsequent graphs I've done have met 1 horrible fate or another. They have been grown outside the whole time. Growth basically stopped a couple of months ago due to the cold but they are now in a small greenhouse again and growing nicely. One of them even appears to be splitting from the current growth spurt. As you can see from the next picture a mouse took a liking to the smaller of the 2 about 5 weeks ago. It doesn't seem too concerned though.

"cut them off so there is a fresh wound?" Yep, they probably do better if left to heal for awhile, but I have simply been sticking the tips into potting mix straight after cutting them off to do a graft and haven't lost a single one.
-
I don't think there is any need for hormones. I just cut them off, stick them in some dirt and they do the rest. If your cutting is badly dehydrated it may need some humidity but they seem to be tough little guys.

I'm still in. My biggest graft is only a bit over 1cm now, it was done on Feb 4 I believe. Looks very healthy to me but isn't growing anywhere near as fast as yours. I'll get a picture or 2 over the weekend.

I'm not really sure how long they usually take to fill out. It was a bit over 2 weeks from memory for the 2 successful ones that I've got to show any signs of fattening up. They didn't shrivel all that much in the first place though.

Mine haven't gone too well either. I grafted 8 or 9 Loph seedlings to peres on 4/2, two of them have definitely taken and have maybe tripled in size. They are still nowhere near as big as yours SirLSD. The other 3 that remain alive have shrivelled a lot and haven't grown any bigger. I noticed earlier this morning what appears to be a single small root sticking out of two of the shrivelled scions so have pretty much given up hope on them. I'll be doing some more grafts this weekend, hopefully with better results.

That's so trippy, I didn't believe it until I got the digital colour meter application out. Both squares are most definitely reading #787878 on that.

Besides a bit of dynamic lifter mixed in the soil, all I use for my cacti is a mixture of seasol and charlie carp. They seem happy, fast growth, lots of pups and very green. I've used seasol long term on many different sorts of plants and it has never seemed to cause any problems.

This is a sad day, I didn't even realise he was sick. What happened to living to 300 RAW? He would have to be one of my favorate writers. Hail Eris, All Hail Discordia

All you cactus experts out there have probably seen this a thousand times before but I found it really interesting. I got a fat pedro cut off eBay a few weeks ago and cut it up into several sections as pup factories. They have been outside for about 2 weeks now and haven't rooted yet. 1 of the cuts has already thrown a small pup (first signs of it were seen less than a week after being put in the ground) and the skin is splitting in another area where you can see the very first signs of a second pup coming out. The interesting thing is that both the pups are coming from aeriols which had the top half sliced off rather than the fully intact aeriols. Could this be a method of inducing rapid pupping from multiple sites? Like make your cuts so that the top of each aeriol is half sliced off.
