cheech and chong- nice dreams best ch&ch movie next to "up in smoke"

my favourite scene in the movie is when Cheech is locked up in a straight jacket in the insane asylum, trying to scratch his balls...

Chong finds him a doctor, and what a doctor:

Dr. Timothy Leary, the real one, appears and gives Cheech who wants a key for his straight jacket, a "key to the universe" instead...

another favourite scene in the movie:

Cannabis is being cultivated in an empty swimming pool with a large blue tarp over it, which is supposed to look like water.

When the tarp springs a hole, and the cop helicopter circles over it, Cheech lies on top of a ladder and pretends to be swimming to fool the cops.

It just looks sooo funny...

Re altered states, haven't seen the 1980 one but there's a new 2000 something one, which is also very good...

and wow i had no idea there was actually a "steppenwolf" movie.

Read the book and loved it so must see the movie...

i read most of Hesse's book, exept the "glass bead game" which I found too boring to read...

I sorta like the "final fantasy" movie because its very well done.

Not much of a story really, but perfect pictures, and some sequences are very trippy.

others are boring

Saving Grace - A bit of a Pommy pot flick. Pretty good actually - Havent seen it for about 5 years tho. I think an older woman starts growing because she has just lost her hubby and needs a source of cash. Very funny :)

Going through my book collection,

I found my copy of "altered states". who'd ever thought it was based on a book. I certainly didn't till i found this a couple of years ago.

There is also a film verion of hesse's Siddartha, really good film if you like the books. I found it fairly accurate to the book, they had obviously thought about their script.

Not a drug film as such, but nice film to watch nonetheless.

Re FANTASIA, Im pretty sure the senior director and senior animation directors were actually heavy users of both LSD and psilocybin/mushrooms. The fact that fantasia is such an amazing eyefull at times, is a direct result of the director and senoir artisits visions. No coincedence at all, its exactly how they wanted their experiences shared... note "seeing" the music?

Im pretty sure the goodies funneled down the line of animators too :)

Dont forget "The French Connection", a 70's smack smuggling flick, not bad for its time, also the "dope testing" scene from BLOW was directly ripped from TFC... check it out...

the bits before...

House of flying daggers and Hero - Both movies have AMAZING visuals AMAZING soundtracks and BEAUTIFUL artistry. Great storylines aswell. Probably my favourites.

Pete Tong is a great movie.

Buffalo Soldiers - Good funny movie great story line, its about this smartarse dude elwood who cooks and sells H/morphine around an american army base in West Germany just before the fall of the berlin wall. Great humor and satire. I think it was banned from release in cinemas in america.

National Lampoon's Senior trip In the same flavour as animal house. "Heroin huh?" "insulin!" "Ah, can I like, buy some from you."

The young master Great fight scenes, pretty funny too. The end fight see's Jack Chan drink opiated bong water to defeat his opponent!

The Lord of the Rings - Extended editions are the only way to go, each movie has 2 discs which allows for an intermission. "Hobbits have a keen interest in the brewing of ales, and the smoking of pipe weed"

I bought New Jack City yesturday. Real good gangsta movie about the switch from blow to crack. Good cast including Ice-T, Wesley Snipes, and Chris Rock.

Too a lesser extent The Last Samurai, only due to the beautiful scenery. Whenever I watch it I skip the start and the finish coz all I care about is the scenery and atmosphere. Tom Cruise trying to be a Samurai adds humor to the movie.

Jimi Hendrix rainbow bridge - Take a trip back into the 60's counterculture, some very funny parts, and some trippy stuff too. and ofcourse hendrix playing with his teeth. Many will find it slow in parts.

WoodStock, 3 days of peace, love and music - Richie Havens and great vibrations

Andy, I couldn't watch A clockwork orange streight, let alone on/coming down from something.

Sometime last year, I saw Neverending story whilste (hypotheticly) rolling and tripping. Wow thats a heavy arse kids movie! I really wish I had gone outside for a ciggy when his horse died, wrong state of mind for that shit. Bad vibrations.

Edit: When it comes to movies - especially in altered states - I'm only after beautiful music, art, visuals, scenery, atmosphere. Good Vibrations.

Used to like hardcore shit when I was younger, but soon after I turned 16 I had a change of lifestyle (including the dismissle of any form of higher power or supreme being), and now I find hardcore movies ridiculous and pointless. With the exception of those that give the audience a better understanding of reality.

Hi people,

Peter Greenaway, while not specifically drug films, use a lot of amazing symbology, and his cinematography is simple quite stunning..

I think the main ones:

Prospero's Books. Mad mad film, amazing sets, amazing overlays, the whole human knowledge thing re books...

Z and two noughts. bent. the sped up decay sequences are amazing.

are certainly worth watching.

The thing with greenaway is some of his scenes can be very shocking, and mind bending, i.e. why i'm not including "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover".

cheers, Obtuse

I absolutely loved The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. I'm sad to say I haven't seen much of his other films yet. A lot of it isn't available in the US yet, and my multiregion DVD player broke so I can't import. His Tulse Luper Trilogy is suppose to be excellent. If you like Greenaway, you'll probably like some films from Lars von Triers and Alex Cox.

From Trier ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001885/ ) I recommend The Element of Crime, Medea, The Kingdom trilogy, Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark (starring Bjork), and Dogville.

From Cox ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0007182/ ) I recommend Repo Man, Sid and Nancy, and Revengers Tragedy.

Non of these movies- with the exception of Sid and Nancy- have a lot of drug use, but all of them sort of break the mold and would be fun to watch while enhanced. :shroomer:

Return to Paradise(1998)- Three friends caught with lots of hash in Malaysia. The last place on earth you want to be caught with drugs.

BTW, can anyone seen the movie Haschisch? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0408834/

Happy watching.

I just watched Tideland which is Terry Gilliams new film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0410764/

Gilliam has guts to release a film like this; at times I found it downright disturbing. It depicts heroin use (thats not the half of it) and is shown through the eyes of a 10 year old child. Dispite it being difficult at times I found it very rewarding to finish and I would place it up there with Gilliams 12 monkeys, fear and loathing, and brazil.

Gotta 2nd (or 3rd) Emerald Forest and Junkie's Christmas. Robert Holdstock wrote a book based on the movie, which is ok, but the movie was stunning. It was one of my favourite movies when I was a kid - I spent months running around the bush after that - I even tried to make a bow! And yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a DMT snuff - I think the peregrine falcon is a reference there. And Junkies Xmas I saw years ago (on xmas day, of course - gotta love SBS) - I'd love to find a copy of that. I do have that Burroughs album somewhere - I just had no idea the two were connected.

I agree with alot of the ones already mentioned - Dumbo, Fantasia, Alice, Naked Lunch, Grass, etc - but Requiem for a Dream just annoyed me (and not just the pupils thing!). It's visually & musically amazing, but it felt to me like they'd aimed for "gritty reality" and hit "hysterical propaganda" instead. Reminded me a lot of that "Go Ask Alice" book, or those gov't ads where a kid is wheeled into hospital after taking E because his muscles are "literally melting". :BANGHEAD2:

The only ones I have to add are Baraka and anything by Jan Svankmajer.

(FROM IMDB)

MirrorMask is like the crack baby of Labyrinth and Alice in Wonderland--but this baby is more stylized, modern, and incredibly beautiful.

I am a huge fan of both Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman's work. I consider myself lucky, because I was able to meet Neil at the Salt Lake Public Library a couple of years ago, and I was treated to a sneak preview of MirrorMask at the San Diego Comic Convention in 2004. And amazingly enough, I got to see the film at the Sundance Film Festival on January 29th-- and Neil and Dave were there again. So, I've felt attached to this project for a while.

This is a film that children and adults will adore. The humor is great, and the characters are immediately enjoyable and identifiable. Helena, the main character, possesses the kind of wide-eyed wonderment and tenacious attitude that all viewers will find believably endearing. The other characters range from strangely beautiful and frightening, as in the Black Queen, to comical and seemingly ordinary, as in the sardonic juggler, Valentine. The background characters are beautifully rendered and reflect McKean's style perfectly. The costume design is particularly outstanding—details are not overlooked. One could view the film a dozen times and still see new surprises.

Like Labyrinth, the film follows Helena through a journey of self-discovery, where she ultimately begins to understand the importance of her herself and her family—and of the ultimate power of hope. As a child, I was captivated by Labyrinth's Sarah character, and I think younger generations will latch onto Helena just as quickly. Helena is more believable though, than Sarah—and her role is a positive one. She is a strong, intelligent, and inquisitive girl, just on the verge of womanhood.

The entire film floored me—I feel so lucky to have seen it. If any of you have a chance to see it, do so immediately. Hopefully, the film will be released to theaters around the country— this would be an especially wise move, as I'm sure it will become a classic fantasy film for all ages.

Blue Juice - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112537/

all about English surfer, raver nutters that cannot do a thing right, really amps u up to hang with psycho poms!

If someone has a copy you might be able to find them here:

Two film collections to be watching out for are The Films of Alejandro Jodorowsky Box Set (Fando y Lis, El Topo, The Holy Mountain), and The Films of Kenneth Anger (Vol. 1 is out now, Vol. 2 soon). I've yet to see any of these films other than Fando y Lis so I can't comment on them, but these trailers will give you an idea of what to expect:

http://www.fantoma.com/trailers/angertrailer480.mov

I've been wanting to see these films for along time, but it's taken so long (some were made in the '50s) for them to actually get an authentic release.
