Trichocereus Bridgesii Monstrose Clone Types
djmattz0r replied to djmattz0r's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I will have to give this a try, have a crest that is begging to be chopped up, has so many growth points Are there multiple crested bridgesii clones circulating? I only ask because out of the 3 I have, they all exhibit pretty unique growth patterns but I haven't had them all that long so that could be it.- 34 replies

What sort of Trichocereus is this?
djmattz0r replied to Nailthesnail's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Looks like a scopulicola to me. -
I have successfully grafted while plants are dormant but it is much tougher to do. I find my success rates increase dramatically when both scion and stock are actively growing as they are more able to fight off infections and whatnot that are common when grafting. YMMV.

Trichocereus Bridgesii Monstrose Clone Types
djmattz0r replied to djmattz0r's topic in Cacti & Succulents
So I ended up getting one of the two supposed Clone A, I may go back and get the other if I can scrounge a little more $ together ;) Here's a picture of the two: And the one I purchased Here's a shot of the 'obese' TBMs they had, I guess I had a case of fisherman's tale because they weren't as big as I remember but just very fat TBM clone B now that I went back and had a look.. Here's a Bridgesii cv Lotusland iirc, I believe I got em from mutant so maybe he can chime in here. Same one, just with some crested bridgesii (not even going to call it a clone letter..) And a couple pics of the 4 ribbed that occasionally goes 3 and grows in a spiral Ended up meeting the owner of the nursery and was offered a part time job unloading cacti, win! Hopefully I will be able to score some new stuff Monday when that happens And a couple shots I grabbed randomly..- 34 replies

Trichocereus Bridgesii Monstrose Clone Types
djmattz0r replied to djmattz0r's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Oh boy, figures the US would have opposite clone letters... I still don't know what to call my bridgesii that shifts between 3 and 4 ribs and grows in a spiral. Hopefully have some pictures tomorrow Good information everyone!- 34 replies

I'll give it a try! I was hoping it would continue to flower as I have too seen 12" unrooted cuts flower but hopefully it'll do something~!
-
I received a cutting with some fuzz balls and was hoping it would continue flowering while I rooted it out but seems to have stalled... anyone had this happen before? and will it still try to flower when it begins growing again? I figured it probably just aborted trying to flower so I am stuck for a while :/

Went to a local ethnobotanical garden and spent a couple hours looking around. I had originally scored my first cactus here a year or so ago. Apparently their San Pedros were sourced from Trout, not sure if that means they aren't PC. Got a sweet deal on a bridgesii from their mother plant which seemed to have semi monstrose tendencies and a few clone B TBMs. The guy I was talking to was super nice and pretty knowledgeable, very happy to talk to me about cacti and seemed impressed with my ability to identify different species... he even topped the only peruvian torch in the place that had a big "NOT FOR SALE" sign on it and gave it to me with my cacti along with a carrion plant cutting. He wanted to get some trades going to diversify their collection a bit. Can't wait to get some new genetics to this place Here's a couple pics I snapped while there: Here's the bridgesii I picked up Also some sweet cacti shorts I picked up online!

Finally moved the rest of my potted collection outdoors to enjoy the sun and started sowing seeds. BBB bridgesii x Validus and Huanucoensis x (SS02xSS01) so far, need to find more to-go containers

I'd do it ASAP as I have had stocks fail and they can go from fine to completely dead overnight and if it spreads to the scion it's game over.
-
I think you need more posts Joshua.

Have you found that BAP is more effective when used on a single aerole zelly? I guess it makes sense now that I think about it, as most of my cacti with multiple BAP'd aeroles have not pupped from them....

ID Bridgesii or Peruvianus??
djmattz0r replied to magical9's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
I saw that first one for sale, first as a bridgesii cv. 'centipede' then it was being sold as a bridgesii x peruvianus 'Lumberjackus' (not sure why?) and see it being sold under the original name again. Whatever it is, it looks interesting and has some pretty hefty spines. Probably a hybrid of some sort as everything seems to be nowadays -
I never have room for new stuff, doesn't ever stop me ;)

There's a few other pics floating around in posts on here but here's a few, can't wait for it to warm up again and put some serious growth on. There were originally 4 main 'arms' that keep switching between regular columnar growth and then reverting to some serious cresting forms. Back when I was cut happy I decided to chop an arm off, wish I had just removed a small piece for grafting propagation. Oh well, now I have a nice large cutting in the ground taken today Cutting in the ground both these pics also taken today and are of grafts that I have growing, going to be chopping the one with 3 columns up a bit to increase the number I have so will have small columns for trade that should grow a bit more then gnar up a bit ;)

Mmmm boobies and science!

Thanks for starting this thread, EG! Things I have currently for trade: -pereskiopsis (2 different types, spathulata and poirteri?) [been working on trying to propagate these out, a bit skinny at the moment, had low light levels] -PC pachanoi cuts (everyones favorite!) -TBMs -T. Peruvianus Monstrose x T. bridgesii SS02 "terence" cuttings/grafts -random tricho seedlings that are about 2 years old (pedro/torch/bridgesii/other hybrids) -short spined peruvianus/true pachanoi cuttings Will also have more things available later on.
-
Saw the AUS only thing after I posted, so just for fun Jankem is always my favorite sounding drug/term and also how crazy it is that it's an actual thing.
-
I am interested to see how mine will turn out if grafted after seeing those pics Spine Collector, I will have to run my own experiment. It's strange how grafting makes it revert to non-monstrose growth. Will do a really red/purp one and a regular one and see if there's any difference as well.

I purchased this specific cactus online and received 8 cuttings, it was labelled as a san pedro but I am not 100% convinced and would like a second opinion. All the cuttings were damaged during shipping because they were all thrown in a box together and scraped each other up pretty good but they all survived! These were apparently all columnar cuts off a crested specimen but not sure if it's genetic or possibly just cause by damage. It has pretty short spines and is definitely not a PC pachanoi... Possibly torch but probably true pedro? Anyways here's some pics, really nice blue hue and has some reddish/amber looking spines growing at the tip turning to a grey/brown. A few different cuttings in the pictures: I'd appreciate any info!
