My wife can't sleep and doesn't wanna take a benzo, she's off to the shop to buy some valerian pills, I told her to look for melatonin .. but I'm afraid OTC here is only 0,5 mg, which is nothing.

Anti-histamines are effective, the problem for me is that there's a rapid tolerance after a few days. I find the effect also pretty aggressive, knocks me out instantly, while a benzo takes it time and also relaxes the muscles.

The melatonin tincture from koda is honestly hands down the best sleeping aid I have ever had.

I just wait 20 minutes then turn off all light sources (extremely important) and I just drift off for 7 straight hours into a deep sleep, then wake up feeling completely refreshed the next morning. Even ganja sometimes stimulates my mind to much and doesn't really help with sleep for me at times. It worked for several months straight and even continued working for a while when I stopped taking it. It really does actually reset the clock instead of just knocking you out like other sleeping aids. I seriously highly recommend it for anyone with sleeping issues.

I'm just completely shattered at the moment since I'm living nomadically and don't have an address to get it sent to. I'm seriously contemplating driving to north coast NSW just to pickup a few bottles.

It really did give me a better quality of life. I've actually been meaning to write a email to koda thanking them for ages. How one little bottle can have such a positive influence on my life without any real side effects just amazes me.

I also found it to be very ecconomical, one bottle last for quite a while.

Peace

amanito - if the antihistamine is too strong, why not just take a smaller dose? I am pretty sure the effect is quite dose dependent so can be varied.

jabez - not sure if you're aware, but you don't need an actual address to send to. You can get things sent to c/Post Office in an area you will be in at that time. The koda staff are pretty quick at dispatching and with express post you'd have it within 2 days to most locations. Just keep in mind that the post office only hangs onto mail for a limited time. 7 days for express services, 4 weeks for standard - then it gets returned to sender.

Thanks for that Torsten.

I really need it. Had the bright idea of buying some vodka to help me sleep a few weeks back, my plan was to just have a few shots a night. Woke up the next morning with less than a quarter of the bottle left and a flat battery from playing music and hucked my guts up everywhere, can't even remember half the night. How the fuck can that horrible shit be legal? The other stuff ain't much better, got shouted a few by these blokes a few nights back after a month with out it and was up all night completely paranoid, lol.

Peace

jabez, what was the approximate dose of tinture you had success with? I might have to give it another go. I have read that if you have too much though it can do the opposite and keep you awake, so any first hand info re dosage would be very handy.

thanks

9mg makes me feel like I've been awake for 2 days straight. head hit the pillow and that was it... I would advise though, only to start off using 1 full dropper(3mg)

i used a dropper (a bit less than a full one as the last bit squirted on my face and neck...) last night around 4 hours before i usually go to bed, it took an hour to kick in but i had a nice uninterrupted sleep until my alarm went of 7 hours later, there were other factors that may have contributed to it not working sooner, but success, i would have never been able to be asleep this early under normal circumstances.

One dropper (which is apparently 3mg) seems to be enough if I've been smoking. Otherwise 9mg usually does the job for me.

I don't find any difference between the tincture mentioned and tablets that I empty into my mouth and wash down with water. I also don't find any difference between holding the tincture in my mouth or putting it in a glass of water.

But that is to say that the koda product is very effective. 1.5mg is enough for me, and usually all I use... or else the last phases of my sleep are filled with psychological dreams and it takes a lot of discipline to get up instead of sleeping for another 2 hours letting the dreams play out.

When taking melatonin, "Sleep hygiene" is still absolutely necessary.

Personal note: I've found that taking theanine with the melatonin helps me wake up a lot fresher if i take around 2-3mg [melatonin] without drowsiness...there's a spring/impulse to get up the first time I wake up.

Spice-of-life - where were you actually buying it in Australia?? I don't think it's actual melatonin. The only thing available over the counter is imaginary energy-vibrations melatonin.

I've ordered capsules online once from biovea and they came through ok. My usual online supplement store, iherb, won't let australian customers add melatonin products to their shopping cart.

Also, not being judgy, but you say if melatonin doesn't work, you're off to a sleep specialist, but just before that you already identified a couple of potential problems...coffee and lack of sunlight.

If you feel you desperately need coffee, maybe you could supplement with tyrosine in the morning & early afternoon (about a half hour before the usual coffee time, concurrently reducing caffeine dosage, possibly switching to tea at some point that feels right), tryptophan in the evening, melatonin a bit before bed, then once you're eventually sleeping soundly, cut down the melatonin, then see how things go. I've said this all in a very condensed way

You're possibly trapping yourself in a bit of a dodgy/self-perpetuating cycle.

Haven't opened the ziplock yet, I'm waiting for some glass packaging material, so I don't know it's hcl, .. Can I just poor 100 mg into 10 ml of alcohol in a dropper?

Probably legit amanito, guess you'll have to wait and see though. However in my travels I have read somewhere that cheap melatonin from the united states might not be pharmaceutical grade and might in part be extracted from biological sources such as animals. I am not sure how accurate this information is. However, the thought grosses me out a little! Wikipedia lists:

The use of melatonin derived from animal pineal tissue may carry the risk of contamination or the means of transmitting viral material. The synthetic form of this medication does not carry this risk.[4][71]

I have worked my way through about 20 Circadin 2mg tablets, they are slow release tablets prescribed by an Australian GP. I chew them for rapid release and normally go to sleep within 30-45 minutes. I usually wake up feeling refreshed and sometimes a little resistant towards getting out of bed. Like coin said, I often have some good involved dreams. I've also found that if I take melatonin and stay up it becomes ineffective. From a user-perspective it 'feels' like it triggers the natural 'desire to sleep' response which biochemically is what I think it basically does in regards to sleep. So, take it when you get into bed and are just about ready to close your eyes, not when your sitting up on the computer looking at the SAB forums :P

Everyone's mileage is probably a bit different but I think around 1-2mg is probably a good place to start when using melatonin. I'm pretty sure you can build a tolerance to it as well and long term use was not recommended by my GP. So start out low and find out what works for you. 9mg is probably a bit unnecessary to be honest though I have never tried it.

Sleep issues are usually pretty involved and require some major work for the insomniac.. I'm still working on it. Hygiene is not a fun word.

look, if you know where there's a store in East Oz selling NOW 3mg melatonin capsules at a decent price - 3 times cheaper than koda's melatonin (sorry). They also sell progesterone cream. Yeah, I KNOW they probably shouldn't be, but they are. Just look harder or PM me.

Koda Phytorium charges $29 for 180mg [1 bottle]. The product is entirely legal to possess as it is not intended for human consumption and is labelled accordingly.

Most companies seem to charge about $70 for the 60x3mg (=180mg) capsules NOW brand

Impakt was the cheapest I could find at $31.95, so slightly dearer than koda for the same quantity. As their product is in capsule form and labelled for consumption it is not only illegal for them to sell it, but it is also illegal for individuals to possess it. It's like being in possession of any other prescription drug without prescription.

To be "3 times cheaper" than koda the product would have to cost less than $10 and I just don't think anyone is offering it that low.

120 x 5mg capsules can be had in Perth for $79.95, OTC, labeled for human consumption. Slightly cheaper than Koda, but probably a pain to dose <3mg if you have to split a cap.

Great to hear all this positive feedback on melatonin. Had it in the back of my mind to buy some for a few months, just have to do it.

it's just annoying not be to be able to order melatonin from somewhere like iHerb for example, where it's $6 for 540mg (180 x 3mg capsules, NOW brand)

I kind of actually enjoy having my melatonin in a tincture, not that I've ever had it in capsule form. But with all the other vitamin supplements I drop in pill & capsule form everyday it's a nice change.

I'm just really stoked there's a Australian store that finally supplies it, over the net. Had an interest in it ever since I read DMT, the spirit molecule.

Anyway, well I'm on the subject of books, just found one in the boot of my car about melatonin, which I actually got from koda a few months back. Haven't read the whole thing yet, but I found it interesting that the researcher is claiming melatonin is one of the most powerful antioxidants known. Also there saying that melatonin can be found in all living organisms from over 3 billion years ago, till present day. Which I find just absolutely amazing. It's got to be an incredibly significant hormone to have stuck around for that long.

Peace

I have a friend that adores the koda tincture - but I find it odd...he takes it every night because he says he likes it....but this guy can fall asleep in 10 minutes...something I'm very jealous of...because it takes me a heap of 'discipline' [i.e. not letting my mind wander discursively] and usually at least 30-60 mins to sleep...sometimes much longer...

I've "slept" with him quite a few times...and after 30-90+ minutes of sleeping (snoring/talking in his sleep) he'll wake up and sleepily say "I'm so tired, I hope I can sleep soon" or "I can't sleep"...meanwhile I've been awake the whole time and just roll my eyes

but I think it has something to do with him living in the CBD where it's always light and always noisy. I recommended an eye-mask for sleeping, but he didn't bother persisting with it for more than a few days because he thought it was uncomfortable.

sleep misperception coin, very real. just because you didn't "feel" asleep doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I know there are ones made from different materials/different designs...I find it far more comfortable than the street-light pouring in my window under the blinds above my bed

My friend, mentioned above, is right across from a giant lit-up bill board. You can't block out that light. Depending on what poster is in the rig, the colour can be a sort of yellowy-orange (sunrise) which makes me wake up at 3am thinking it's 6am.
