DreamingNagual Posted June 26, 2008 That is one Amazingly Beautifull looking fungus Gen! One I have never encountered before. Seems it is called "Hydnellum peckii" Or "Bleeding Tooth Fungus" Quote from Link, "Later the fruitbody becomes tougher and teeth develop on the underside. This common and widespread species fruits under conifers." A mushroom with teeth!!! It almost looks as if it has attacked something & become covered in its victims blood Also I wonder how "Common & Widespread" this fungus may be? I am off to research this a bit further to see what I can find out Thanks for sharing Genesis, Truly Amazing.
DreamingNagual Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) Found this info on the Peckii thru wiki, Quote "This liquid contains a mushroom pigment called atromentin, which has anticoagulant properties similar to heparin." Very Interesting? Look here for some Intreging info, http://healing-mushrooms.net/archives/hydnellum-peckii.html And Here http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/gallery/Dis...d~6119~gid~.asp Here is another similar fungus. "Hydnellum diabolus" Apparently you can tell these two apart by having a bit of a sniff! Peckii is odourless, While Hydnellum Diabolus is said to have an almost sweet resinous odour! They both look so alike! Seems it would be very easy to confuse them if it wasnt for the different odour! From what I can tell It is mostly found in European and North America areas? As a side note, Is it just me or does anyone else think that FRESH Subs smell the same or similar to Windex? Edited June 1, 2009 by DreamingNagual
poo Posted June 26, 2008 That is the most amazing thing I've seen in ages - looks like something from Mario land or a cake/lolly factory - stunning!
divinersage Posted June 26, 2008 " As a side note, Is it just me or does anyone else think that FRESH Subs smell the same or similar to Windex? " DreamingNagul HOLY MOLY!!!! me and my friends had a massive in-depth discussion last night and came to the conclusion the smell was extremely close to windex! thats so odd! DreamingNagual Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) Finally I have another person that agrees I think I have mentioned this on the forums before? Anyway, I have had this discussion with a few friends also. And every time, I have been met with smirks, jeers and comments of Disbelief It has therefore been decided, Untill I provide a sample of fresh shrooms and a spray of Windex in a glass to compare it with, I am to be branded as delusional. Thankyou divinersage, With your permission I shall be using your post as a backup defence against my friends! Also to add to the conspiracy, Windex is Blue!!!! I think you guys can See what I am getting at here hey??? Haha Grammer edit. Edited June 1, 2009 by DreamingNagual

Ace Posted August 8, 2008 FRESH Subs smell the same or similar to Windex Could be another method for determining ID? Take a windex-laced hanky out in the field with you while hunting as a reference guide? Christ I wish the hunting season weren't over - I still havent found one
Hyphal Posted August 8, 2008 Great post.Resolves a mystery for me. A fungal contaminant that was a very bight pink. Like cotton candy always. Awesome looking. You could be referring to Lipstick Mold – Sporendonema purpurescens (Geotrichum candidium), or Pink Mold; Red Bread Mold – Neurospora. LINK
