Over the last 5 years I haven't posted much here...uni and travel consumed me. I was building up my knowledge and garden again and I noticed the amount of posts across the forums is much lower that what I remembered....or am I imagining things?

I got some of these off a member here a few years back but I've lost their contact. Anyone else have some? PM if interested in a trade/sell etc?

I was wondering if anyone can point me to a quote from Terence regarding the use of DMT as training, preparation for death. I've heard him talking about this in video but something in print would be great. Or someone else of note who has explored this topic. Thanks

A serious hail storm back in December did some serious damage, they only just seem to have started off again. The biggest one here is trying to flower but it always seem to abort just as it is beginning to reveal...

I grow almost exclusively by grafting to whatever is laying about...they have been quite neglected in the last year since returning to uni. Just the occasional watering in summer then moved into and semi-indoor space over winter. Pretty much 6 months inside, 6 months outside in Tas. 50/50 sun and shade in summer...they quickly burn if fully exposed. That's it really, just wanted to show my collection which I am trying to clean up during the mid-year break along with everything else. Love to meet other Tas growers who would like to trade or whatver. The biggest - about 12cm diameter I cant remember what trich this was grafted to, forgot the name...like a button trich

fish oil producers have been deceiving the public
Rabelais replied to Dreamwalker.'s topic in Pharmacology, Chemistry & Medicine
What annoys me is Australian krill oil producers advertising astaxanthin as a part of their supplements. However, they neglect to inform peole that it is only present in pointless trace amounts. Wilfuly operating under the assumption that their consumers are poorly informed. -
Should I have seen more growth?
Rabelais replied to Idon'tstudydinosaurs's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I have a couple of grafts with similar slow growth rates. I just assumed that sometimes my graft connections just aren't that great. It may be fully attached and strong, but it just doesn't grow that fast compared to some others grafted at the same time. -

Something I have only heard about in the last couple of years, I find it an interesting subject. Imagining what the world would be like after, is surely as big a mystery as the universe itself...or maybe nothing at all? I find myself wondering how a super intelligence would reprogram architectural programming. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity

Technological singularity
Rabelais replied to Rabelais's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
^^^ I think it has been suggested that to run a simulation of the human mind, a computer capable of processing ~35 petaflops and a memory capacity of 3.2 petabytes is required. Last I checked, IBM were creating a 20 petaflop machine(?) That was a few years ago and I'm sure it has increased even further by now. ...I guess what I am saying is that we are not that far away in terms of computational speed required. What is going to take longer is the continuing research into reverse engineering the human brain...maybe 15 years away. I don't think that purely research based pursuit will tax our resources in any significant manner -
Technological singularity
Rabelais replied to Rabelais's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
I'm not sure Hawking or any of us are really in a position to say what may or may not happen...but it is fun to imagine. I just don't think we can comprehend what AI may or may not do. I think it is a mystery on par with a true understanding of the infininite of the universe. I'm imagining AI as already here, like a parasite with humanity as its host...eventually it will consume its host...we will become AI...AI will become us. Something more nuanced, rather than a sperate human/AI existence. -
I think the fact that this guy is FInnish and that he won't shut up should have set off some alarm bells...their morose-like silence is why I love them. Not to generalise an entire nation...but you know what I'm say'n

Another step closer: Scientists have reverse-engineered a worm's brain and placed it inside a robot. http://www.iflscience.com/technology/worms-mind-robot-body I think Ray Kurzweil predicted the reverse engineering of the human mind to be complete around 2028(?) -
I generally concur with your sentiments...but. I seen this happen in my own location. Bunnings moved in down the road from a locally owned big-box harware store and they've been dying a slow death. If I was in their situation, I might try and stock some more unique boutique items, locally produced products, heirloom varieties, high quality brands and equipment...there are a million things they could do to differentiate and create a niche for themselves... But all they do is stock the exact same products as Bunnings then bitch and moan about how they can't compete...maybe I'm being harsh, but I get the feeling the managers/owners are as uninspired as the zombiefied assistants who lurch up and down the aisles. I don't feel the least bit sorry for them.

scop, pach, myrto, bridgi, mammis...but they have stopped stocking in the last year or so :/ Fold-out 'papasan' style camping/outdoor/sunroom chairs...love them, best things I have ever bought. ... Worst thing. A heated propogation chamber without a thermostat. First time I turned it on, it must have heated to 40-50c and cooked a bunch of cuttings.

Interstellar Going into the cinema I had some reservations, I didn't like the thought of watching such a long movie (3hrs) outside the comfort of my living room. But I didn't even notice, the movie hooked me and I completely forgot about the length of time I was sitting there. If you like smart sci-fi like 2001, you will love it. Go see it at the cinema before it wraps up.

What the hell were they thinking... They travelled millions of miles to this comet, billions of dollars(?), ten years travelling time.... ...and they didn't think that maybe they should have built a spare lander to attach in case something went wrong and it ended up crashed on its side, possibly unable to perform all of its tasks? Seriously, how much more would it have cost to build two instead of one lander...hell, ten landers scattered over the comet at least, to make sure they were getting a good sample. Sure, its all very cool and they were very clever...but at the same time they look like muppets.

Growing in Tasmania for over 10 years now, this is the first winter where my collection seems to be still growing, things usually come to a dead stop from the end of may until late october. Interesting. Are others noticing stronger winter growth this year?

Images optimised/compressed for your convenience. Still not 100% on my IDs...still that last 5% of doubt which brings me here but I'm getting better. Edit - All found in southern Tas. No idea what these are but that doesn't make them any less pretty...
