So... After about 50 failed attempts at logging in, 30 or so more at the email address linked to this account… Then, probably another 30 or so more tries on another old email I had linked to that account, I finally managed to crack a secret question (which to my amazement... and well, mostly frustration, was an ex girlfriends name for the “name of my first pet” secret question… Go figure!). Anyway, after this montage of me trying every possible password, getting locked out, waiting 15 minutes and trying again, spread out over the course of about, what? 3 days… I finally managed to get in! (Sorry for the “fraudulent activity” Torsten - if you're still around). So it appears I have not been an active member on the Corroboree for more than 6 years. There are a number of unanswered messages in my inbox (sorry for the late reply) and I notice that a number of long standing members seem to have disappeared (or maybe they’ve forgotten their secret questions too?). The forums appear a little lonely, and the activity seems a little… dull? (Or maybe I’m just not looking hard enough, you tell me. What’s that community like these days?) Indeed, things have changed. As everything does. But, I’m back! And it’s been a long time coming… There have been many unambitious attempts over the years to reengage, a lot of half motivated, languid stabs at the keyboard; partially completed new accounts - numerous hours spent vexatiously agonising over display names (what was I thinking with this one!) - but it didn’t feel right. It wasn’t the right time. The planets had not aligned, the moon wasn't right.. or, my chakra’s weren’t spinning or whatever other hippy shit I believed in at the time… I wasn’t in the mood. Now, apparently, I am. So, Hello. What’s happening? Anyone else in the northern rivers sick of this rain yet? I pulled a fuck-ton of Trichs out this week that were at various stages of rot. (Fucking clay!) Here’s a pic. And well.. I guess I don’t have much else to say as of yet.. I’ll have to get back into the "forum" swing of things… relearn the lingo, give tips to noobs, post blurry pics and feel embarrassed by senior psychonauts (oh wait, I’m one now!) On March 31, 2021, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law the New York State Cannabis/Marijuana Regulation & Taxation Act, reducing barriers to employment for users and encouraging employers to rethink their positions on marijuana. Getting Started The Act creates an Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), an independent arm of the New York State Liquor Authority’s Division of Alcohol Beverage Control. The OCM will be responsible for operationalizing and regulating marijuana within the state and will assume duties over the state’s existing medical marijuana program. The OCM is expected to establish standards for cultivation, create licensing programs for distributors, processors, and retailers of recreational marijuana, adopt advertising and marketing rules and implement a social equity program that will assist individuals disproportionally impacted by cannabis enforcement. While legalization is effective immediately, you won’t find shops opening in your neighborhood until the OCM has implemented the rules necessary to regulate marijuana. Regardless, individuals in New York may currently possess, purchase, share and consume up to 3 ounces of cannabis and up to 24 grams of concentrated cannabis. While it may take months or years for retail sales to start, employers should prepare to comply with the legislation. Employer Impact Thankfully for employers, the New York State Cannabis/Marijuana Regulation & Taxation Act does not diminish an employer’s ability to maintain a zero-tolerance drug-free workplace. Employers are not required to permit or otherwise accommodate the use, possession, sale, or transfer of cannabis in the workplace and can prohibit employees from being impaired during work hours. Notably, for users of marijuana, the Act amends Labor Law Section 201-d, protecting workers’ rights to engage in the use of cannabis outside of work. Specifically, the Act requires employers to not discriminate against a worker’s use of cannabis when off-duty, outside of the employer’s facility, and when not using the employer’s equipment or other property. As it relates to an employer’s pre-employment drug screening program, most New York employers may not refuse to hire a candidate based on their legal use of marijuana. An employer would not violate a lawful recreational marijuana user’s rights based on three specific exceptions: 1. An employer may adversely affect a recreational marijuana user’s employment if an employer is required to bar a marijuana user based on a state or federal statute, regulation, ordinance, or other state or federal government mandate. 2. If a worker is impaired by marijuana while working, and the worker’s impairment interferes with an employer’s obligations to provide a safe and healthy workplace, an employer may choose to take an adverse employment action. 3. Finally, employers who would violate federal law or may experience loss of a federal contract or federal funding may disqualify a recreational marijuana user from hire or employment. The Act places employers who engage safety-sensitive but non-regulated workers between a rock and a hard place. When gauging the deterioration of a worker’s abilities based on marijuana use, an employer must identify “specific articulable symptoms” of impairment to challenge the worker’s fitness for duty. Even if an individual tests positive for marijuana while at the workplace but does not exhibit “specific articulable symptoms” of impairment, an employer may be barred from impacting that worker’s employment. What’s Next? Since the legalization of recreational marijuana in New York is effective immediately, employers should quickly rethink their stance on marijuana and the impact of their adjudication policies on lawful marijuana users. Most employers not subject to federal regulation or other express obligation covered by New York’s new law to bar users of marijuana from the workplace will need to address policy statements that lean otherwise. Similarly, employers may want to rethink pre-employment testing for marijuana since a lawful recreational user cannot be barred from employment. Of note, New York City barred employers from testing prospective candidates for marijuana in 2020. Finally, employers will need to carefully develop and implement policies to assess a reasonable suspicion of impairment at the workplace or while on duty to defend an adverse action taken due to a positive test for marijuana. As the state gets underway in implementing its recreational marijuana program, employers can expect to gain clarity behind the intent and enforcement of existing rules and the possible evolution of the law as time progresses.

In Segment two we will explore the Perspectives on Medicalisation of cannabis and other entheogenic plants with a variety of short interviews from Nimbin, the alternative lifestyle capital of Australia. ----------------------------- Segment One – Psychedelic Mysticism Talk Synopsis: The Relationship between Psychedelic Occasioned-mystical experiences and Pro-Environmental Behaviour This lecture will be a presentation of findings from a novel research project, which explored the relationship between psychedelic-occasioned mystical states and pro-environmental behaviour. The study expanded on a previous finding by Forstmann and Sagioglou (2017), who observed an association between lifetime experience with psychedelic use and pro-environmental behaviour. However, the former study did not assess the quality of psychedelic experience, which can greatly vary depending on context. Mystical experiences, which can accompany psychedelic use, are considered profound experiences that can positively influence an individual's life. Some examples of shifts in individuals following such an event, include positive changes in attitude, behaviour and well-being, improved sense of spirituality, increased openness and enhanced connectedness. As a result of such alterations, psychedelic-occasioned mystical experiences could have implications for an individual’s behaviour and relationship with the natural world, including their pro-environmental behaviour. For this study, participants completed an online questionnaire that assessed psychedelic use, mystical experiences, personality and pro-environmental behaviour. The survey also included a behavioural Charity Task in the form of a raffle, whereby participants could choose to donate the prize to an environmental charity or keep it. This task was aimed to be reflective of an actual instance of pro-environmental behaviour. We observed that participants who met the criteria for a ‘complete’ mystical state scored higher on pro-environmental behaviour, openness and agreeableness than those who did not. Specifically, those who achieved a mystical state scored higher on the pro-environmental behaviour types ‘eco-shopping and eating’ and ‘one-off conservation actions’. No significant differences were observed between the charity task groups and mystical experiences. This study is the first to observe how psychedelic-occasioned mystical experiences might influence pro-environmental behaviour, and findings suggest that the quality of a person’s psychedelic experience may be important for whether or not individuals engage in environmental action. Understanding the motivators of pro-environmental behaviour is of pressing concern in light of increases in global temperatures. As greater urbanisation and digitalisation alienates individuals from nature, reconnecting humans with nature should be deemed a priority if environmentally destructive behaviour is to be reduced. The results of the study will be presented in a powerpoint slide that introduces the topic, summarises the study design and subsequently discusses the results, limitations and implications. Bio: Kelly Paterniti Kelly Paterniti has just completed her Honours in Psychology at Edith Cowan University, where she has graduated first class. The research was originally part of my honours dissertation, which is being adapted for publication. Although this was her first research paper, Kelly had excellent support from Dr Stephen Bright and Dr Eyal Gringart who are co-adapting the paper with me for publication. Prior to studying, Kelly had a career in the performing arts, which included performances at the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company and Griffin Theatre Company.
