Dodie Posted October 3, 2006 Tool's Parabol / Parabola has done something for me... Parabol So familiar and overwhelmingly warm This one, this form I hold now. Embracing you, this reality here, This one, this form I hold now, so Wide eyed and hopeful. Wide eyed and hopefully wild. We barely remember what came before this precious moment, Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside... This body holding me, reminding me that I am not alone in This body makes me feel eternal. All this pain is an illusion. Parabola We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment, We are choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside This holy reality, this holy experience. Choosing to be here in This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal All this pain is an illusion. Alive, I In this holy reality, in this holy experience. Choosing to be here in This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal All this pain is an illusion. Twirling round with this familiar parable. Spinning, weaving round each new experience. Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing. This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment. Remember. We are eternal. All this pain is an illusion.

wandjina Posted January 15, 2007 listen to sinead oconners(princes) nothing compares to you, on mushrooms lol, great idea. always had a soft spot for that song. I just downloaded the theme from one of my all-time favourite shows, Monkey magic, which I honestly feel has had an influence on my life. Prolly seen each episode at least 4-5 times Born from an egg on a mountain top, the punkiest Monkey that ever popped, He knew every magic trick under the sun, to tease the gods and everyone can have some fun. Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic ooh What a cocky, saucy Monkey this one is. All the Gods were angry and they punished him. Until he was saved by a kindly priest, and that was the start of their pilgrimage quest. Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic, Monkey magic ooh! dig that 2nd verse!

Korky Posted January 17, 2007 nice one amulte im taking a guess the throut singing is mongolian (and the horse head fiddle) was there 2 months ago and caught some to my surprise. world music has alot to offer, the culture and history of wich makes the top forty look like a spoilt child at a school fete. my vote for lyrics that changed me as a person come from Rage Against the Machine, to many to list but if your familiar with them you will know why. also great to see bands like tool and pink floyd mentioned. Serpent Posted January 17, 2007 (edited) Agree Dodie about tools Parabol / Parabola Big tool fan StinkFist - tool Something has to change. Un-deniable dilemma. Boredom's not a burden Anyone should bear. Constant over stimu-lation numbs me but I would not want you any other way. It's not enough. I need more. Nothing seems to satisfy. I don't want it. I just need it. To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive. Finger deep within the borderline. Show me that you love me and that we belong together. Relax, turn around and take my hand. I can help you change Tired moments into pleasure. Say the word and we'll be Well upon our way. Blend and balance Pain and comfort Deep within you Till you will not want me any other way. It's not enough. I need more. Nothing seems to satisfy. I don't want it. I just need it. To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive. Knuckle deep inside the borderline. This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to. Relax. Slip away. Something kinda sad about the way that things have come to be. Desensitized to everything. What became of subtlety? How can this mean anything to me If I really don't feel anything at all? I'll keep digging till I feel something. Elbow deep inside the borderline. Show me that you love me and that we belong together. Shoulder deep within the borderline. Relax. Turn around and take my hand. Green Osiris Posted January 17, 2007 for some reason my big positive rant on TOOL & Jethro Tull didn't post So I shant post again. But I will ask of DarkHorse's selection, and dig a little. Mate, i love a lot of what you list but WTF is it with meshuggah ? Im very VERY open to intensity, but after buying "Chaosphere" about a year back, I begin to question my understanding. Sure, many edgy bands rate meshuggah as an influence, hell, I even have an O/S guitar mag where Adam Jones basically creams over their time sigs. Ive also heard Danny CArey tip his hat. But for me, this record (Chaosphere) really is just a noise-fest. Darkhorse, PM me your address, I'll share with you some "Lamb of God", it's the finest razor-edge metal Ive heard in 20 years..... that said, Im also into..... Jethro Tull (d'oh) TOOL iOTA Deep Purple (Mk 1, 2&3) Thin Lizzy (RAWK!) Cream Tea Party The Black Crowes Crosby, Stills& Nash Hawkwind Ozric Tentacles SOAD (DH, did you see their post-popular gig at the Iron Duke?) sobriquet Posted January 18, 2007 There comes a time, in every man's life When he get's tired of foolin' around Juggling hearts in a three ring circus Someday will drive a body down 2 the ground I never imagined that love would rain on me And make me want 2 settle down Baby it's true, I think I do And I just wanna tell U that I wanna with U (baby, if U do 2) And baby if U do 2 Forever, forever, baby I want U forever I wanna keep U 4 the rest of my life (U can make right) All that is wrong in my world (U are my saviour) U can make right (U are my light) U are my saviour, U are my light (Forever I want U in my life) Forever I want U in my life There comes a road in every man's journey (don't be afraid) A road that he's afraid 2 walk on his own (I'm at that road) I'm here 2 tell U that I'm at that road (I'd rather walk it with) And I'd rather walk it (U than walk it alone) with U than walk it alone (U are my future) U are my hero, U are my future (no past) When I am with U, I have no past Oh baby my one and only desire (make this feelin' last) Is find some way in this doggone world (sugar it's true) 2 make this feelin' last (I know I do) Oh baby it's true, I know I do (2 with U) And I just wanna tell U that I want 2 with U, yeah And baby if U do 2 Forever, forever, I want U baby, baby forever (U can make right) I wanna keep U 4 the rest of my life (U are my saviour) All that is wrong in my world (U are my light) U can make right U are my saviour, U are my light Forever I want U in my life
gerbil Posted January 18, 2007 (edited) Green Osiris I don't think Meshuggah can really be explained, it either hits you deeply or it just sounds like 'noise', Sol Niger Within (kind of a side project) is also kickarse, but for their albums I love Destroy Erase Improve :D To me they are well up there with some of the bands/artists that I highly respect. If you want to see how tame some of Meshuggahs work is, checkout some work by Exhumed lol Pretty similar tastes in some regards darkhorse! Nirvana is one that definitely had an impact, especially the unplugged tracks. Some of John Lennons work I enjoy Not lyrical, but the instrumental Jasco by Sepultura is above and beyond Hendrix (esp. Band of Gypsies) Pantera (yep r.i.p. Dime) Pink Floyd (Meddle and Live at pompeii are up there) Faith No More (King for a day...) Mr. Bungle (Particularly self titled) Generally any tribal chanting, particularly South American Louis Armstrong and similar Bob Marley and the Wailers The doors, esp the crystal ship and similar. ah how could I forget Simon and Garfunkel; plus some of Paul Simons other work. I suppose lots of lyrics from the above and others, Pink Floyd make it very visual from a lyrical interpretation perspective which I appreciate. The Dude Posted January 18, 2007 (edited) Ever since becoming obsessed with.. the things this crew here all know and love. Bands like Bad Religion and Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down have taken on new meanings in their songs, not just the usual rebellious shit against the system, but what i guess may as well be called gnostic lyrics, symbolic of a deeper meaning to reality.. y0 is cool eh. Nah no shit all different lyrics are clicking away with new meaning assosiations, i love learning things anew. Anyway gotta post some lyrics. I'm in a bluesy mood so... Beautiful Girls - Learn Yourself Everybody thinks we'll fall apart. Everybody's quick to point their fingers at what, they think is causing the problem. And what they don't see is what they won't see my friend. And we've all got to learn ourselves before we can judge some one else. Just like the holy scriptures talk, of a road to redemption in amongst the thorns. The path is beset by ego and greed, and if we don't see then we won't ever be free. along the path we walk we've only got to find our own heart, own mind Edited January 18, 2007 by El Duderino
Green Osiris Posted January 20, 2007 Thanks for the name drop of "Sol Niger Within", I'll try an limewire some samples. When I was a kid I listened to some fairly extreme stuff (right alongside Purple/Zep/Sabs mind you). Two that I recall were SOD and also a german speed outfit called Sodom. Truly ugly stuff, doubtful I would revisit it even if I still had the vinyl I note Burzum is listed on DH's post. Man, isn't that the dude from the seriously hard-ass Norwegian black metal days that murdered his bandmate and ate his brain? And also behind an underground movement that burned down historical churches ? As a side note (excuse the pun) I find it funny when people say "Oh I like all kinds of music", when more correctly they really don't dig anything. That's fine by me, not everyone has to be into it, but with an 'all -kinds' statement, could they sit down to Kylie Minogue followed by Dimmu Borgir?

FungalFractoids Posted January 24, 2007 Immortal Technique "The 4th Branch" [Talking] The new age is upon us And yet the past refuses to rest in its shallow grave For those who hide behind the false image of the son of man shall stand before God!!! It has begun The beginning of the end Yeah.. Yeah... yeah, yeah [Verse 1] The voice of racism preaching the gospel is devilish A fake church called the prophet Muhammad a terrorist Forgetting God is not a religion, but a spiritual bond And Jesus is the most quoted prophet in the Qu'ran They bombed innocent people, tryin' to murder Saddam When you gave him those chemical weapons to go to war with Iran This is the information that they hold back from Peter Jennings Cause Condoleeza Rice is just a new age Sally Hemmings I break it down with critical language and spiritual anguish The Judas I hang with, the guilt of betraying Christ You murdered and stole his religion, and painting him white Translated in psychologically tainted philosophy Conservative political right wing, ideology Glued together sloppily, the blasphemy of a nation Got my back to the wall, cause I'm facin' assassination Guantanamo Bay, federal incarceration How could this be, the land of the free, home of the brave? Indigenous holocaust, and the home of the slaves Corporate America, dancin' offbeat to the rhythm You really think this country, never sponsored terrorism? Human rights violations, we continue the saga El Savador and the contras in Nicaragua And on top of that, you still wanna take me to prison Just cause I won't trade humanity for patriotism [Hook] It's like MK-ULTRA, controlling your brain Suggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change They wanna rearrange the whole point of view of the ghetto The fourth branch of the government, want us to settle A bandana full of glittering, generality Fighting for freedom and fighting terror, but what's reality? Read about the history of the place that we live in And stop letting corporate news tell lies to your children [Verse 2] Flow like the blood of Abraham through the Jews and the Arabs Broken apart like a woman's heart, abused in a marriage The brink of holy war, bottled up, like a miscarriage Embedded correspondents don't tell the source of the tension And they refuse to even mention, European intervention Or the massacres in Jenin, the innocent screams U.S. manufactured missles, and M-16's Weapon contracts and corrupted American dreams Media censorship, blocking out the video screens A continent of oil kingdoms, bought for a bargain Democracy is just a word, when the people are starvin' The average citizen, made to be, blind to the reason A desert full of genocide, where the bodies are freezin' And the world doesn't believe that you fightin' for freedom Cause you fucked the Middle East, and gave birth to a demon It's open season with the CIA, bugging my crib Trapped in a ghetto region like a Palestinian kid Where nobody gives a fuck whether you die or you live I'm tryin' to give the truth, and I know the price is my life But when I'm gone they'll sing a song about Immortal Technique Who beheaded the President, and the princes and sheiks You don't give a fuck about us, I can see through your facade Like a fallen angel standing in the presence of God Bitch niggaz scared of the truth, when it looks at you hard [Hook] It's like MK-ULTRA, controlling your brain Suggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change They wanna rearrange the whole point of view in the ghetto The fourth branch of the government, want us to settle A bandana full of glittering, generality Fighting for freedom and fighting terror, but what's reality? Martial law is coming soon to the hood, to kill you While you hanging your flag out your project window [Talking] Yeah.. The fourth branch of the government AKA the media Seems to now have a retirement plan for ex-military officials As if their opinion was at all unbiased A machine shouldn't speak for men So shut the fuck up you mindless drone! And you know it's serious When these same media outfits are spending millions of dollars on a PR campaign To try to convince you they're fair and balanced When they're some of the most ignorant, and racist people Giving that type of mentality a safe haven We act like we share in the spoils of war that they do We die in wars, we don't get the contracts to make money off 'em afterwards! We don't get weapons contracts, nigga! We don't get cheap labor for our companies, nigga! We are cheap labor, nigga! Turn off the news and read, nigga! Read... read... read... nabraxas Posted January 24, 2007 The Specials' Ghost Town was a song that really shook me when i first heard it, for all the reasons mentioned below: Friday March 8, 2002 The Guardian No record, however, can claim to have captured the spirit of its age quite as acutely as The Specials' Ghost Town. Released 21 years ago this summer - an anniversary heralded by the reissue of the Coventry septet's complete back catalogue - it remains the most remarkable number one in British chart history. Despairing of rising unemployment and frustrated by the most unpopular government of the post-war era, it was not only a peculiarly unsettling record, but a uniquely prescient one. As Ghost Town reached number one, its lyrics were horribly borne out. "Can't go on no more," sang the Specials, "the people getting angry." As if on cue, the worst mainland rioting of the century broke out in Britain's cities and towns. For the first and only time, British pop music appeared to be commenting on the news as it happened. This town, is coming like a ghost town All the clubs have been closed down This place, is coming like a ghost town Bands won't play no more too much fighting on the dance floor Do you remember the good old days Before the ghost town? We danced and sang, And the music played inna de boomtown This town, is coming like a ghost town Why must the youth fight against themselves? Government leaving the youth on the shelf This place, is coming like a ghost town No job to be found in this country Can't go on no more The people getting angry This town, is coming like a ghost town This town, is coming like a ghost town This town, is coming like a ghost town This town, is coming like a ghost town http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28TeUbYvXS0
Kenny Blister Posted January 25, 2007 Love the old skool, nabraxas, but being a mere puppy myself perhaps I will share something of late. By the end of this song I have a tear in my eye... Donald wept through the proceedings. His tears soaked through the canvas that cloaked his twisted face and they stained his orange jumpsuit where with such rare distinction he once displayed the evidence of his outstanding contributions to the maintenance of a kingdom come. But those days are gone. He’s nothing more than a number on a docket thick with shareholders, engineers, PR firms, politicians: war-profiteers. How the fuck did I end up here? This just isn’t fair. Ain’t no place for a millionaire. He searches for the words to stop this table in mid-turn, like “we are but old men” and “we only did what we were told,” but the laughter from the gallery drowns out these vestiges of a profession’s oldest defense. The court will direct the record to reflect compliments from the bench; you sir, are central casting’s crowning achievement. And for your outstanding performance in a comedic role, I’d like to dedicate the findings of the jury to the dead. But how can one man ever repay a debt so appalling? Can’t gouge 10,000 eyes from a single head so I think we should observe a sentence that will serve to satisfy both a sense of function and poetry: so you will spend the rest of your days drenched in sweat, with your face drawn in a rictus of terror as you remove another buried land mine fuse. Meanwhile, 100 yards back behind the sandbags, a legless foreman pulls the trigger on a red megaphone. Squelching feedback. Drunken laughter. Broken English. His dead daughter’s picture. Time and tide, no one can anticipate the inevitable waves of change.

apothecary Posted January 25, 2007 Tool - Rosetta Stoned This is what they should be. Thanks. All righty then. Picture this if you will. 10 to 2am X, yogi, DMT and a box of Krispy Kremes, in my need-to-know pose just outside area 51 Contemplating the whole chosen people thingy when just then a flaming stealth banana split the sky like one would hope but never really expect to see in a place like this Cutting right angle doughnuts on a dime and stopping right at my Birkenstocks and me yelping... HOLY FUCKING SHIT Holy fucking shit Fucking shit Holy fucking shit Holy fucking shit Holy fucking shit...fucking shit...fucking shit Then the X-Files being, looking like some kinda blue-green Jackie Chan With Isabella Rossellini lips and breath that reeked of vanilla chig champa Did a slow-mo matrix decent outta the butt end of the banana vessel and hovered above my bug-eyes My gaping jaw And my sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip, And all I could think was, I hope Uncle Martin here doesn't notice That I pissed my fucking pants. So light in his way Like an apparition, He had me crying out, Fuck me! It's gotta be Dead head chemistry! The blotter got right on top of me Got me seeing E motherfucking T! And after calming me down with some orange slices and some fetal spooning E.T. revealed to me his singular purpose, He said you are the chosen one. The one who will deliver the message. A message of hope for those who choose to hear it And a warning for those who do not. Me, the chosen one They chose me And I didn't graduate from fucking high school! You better You better You better You beter listen He looked right through me With somniferous almond eyes Don't even know what that means Must remember to write it down, This is so real Like the time Dave floated away See my heart is pounding 'Cause this shit never happens to me! Can't breathe right now It was so real Like I woke up in Wonderland Also a bit terrifying I don't wanna be alone When I tell this story And can anyone tell me why ya'll sound like peanuts parents Will I ever be coming down? This is so real Finally it's my lucky day See my heart is racing Cause this shit never happens to me Can't breathe right now You believe me don't you Please believe what I just said See the dead ain't touring And this wasn't all in my head. See they took me by the hand And invited me right in Then they showed me something I don't even know where to begin Strapped down to my bed Feet cold and eyes red I'm out of my head Am I alive am I dead Can't remember what they said God damn shit the bed High eye (repeated) Overwhelmed as one would be Placed in my position Such a heavy burden now to be the one Born to bear and bring to all The details of our ending To write it down for all the world to see. But I forgot my pen Shit the bed again Typical Strapped down to my bed Feet cold and eyes red I'm out of my head Am I alive am I dead? Sunkist and sudafed Gyroscopes and infra red Won't help Brain dead Can't remember what they said God damn shit the bed IIIIIII can't remember what they said to me Can't remember what they said to me To make out to be a hero Can't remember what they said Don't know, won't know (repeated) God damn shit the bed!
