What do you wish you knew when you were 18?

I think as a youngster growing up in a rather conservative city, the best thing I could have done was learn more things in general, see more places, meet more people, have more life experiences, look at things from different perspectives. And get rid of TV much sooner. Adventure, Adventure, Adventure! I'd be a cross between Steve Irwin, Malcom douglass, and Bear Grylls by now lol Chasin' them bitches all the way! Hehe, just kidding btotl

Allowing someone to use your photo??

I'm sure a few people here will be able to advise me. I've been asked a few times (via email) if people could use some of my plant pics for things like information brochures or boardwalk signs etc, and I'm wondering how exactly does copyright work for a pic. How does one go about allowing someone to use their pic without accidentally giving-up the rights to their own picture. Do you just make a written agreement, like "Yes, you may use this pic in your boardwalk sign. As long as you acknowledge my name for the photo, and it is not used again for anything else without my permission, thankyou" Should I put a small copyright symbol on it with my name just to be sure? I really don't even want to be named but I don't want to loose the rights to my own pic. I met a guy who lost the rights of his pic to the CSIRO because they obtained it without copyright, and then used it so much that they didn't want him to start charging them usage fees etc. Now he can't even use his own pic and he's an authority in his field. I've allowed usage a number of times but never really known if I was doing it right and this latest guy doesn't really know either.

    BP buying google search terms

Nuke the leak?!? Glad no one took that guy seriously. Is he even qualified to speak about nukes. That could have become exponentially worse/ unfixable! No offense Slybacon but what ever happened to this UN invasion? It's gotta be one of the most far fetched conspiracy theories I've ever heard. The only conspiracy here is your dodgy sources. lol

    Greens in the senate

I thought that's exactly what decriminalisation is. They don't intend to legalise it, they just want to regulate it. It becomes about as bad as a traffic offense where you get punished if caught (fines etc) but there's no criminal conviction or record. There is a major difference between the terms 'legalisation' and 'decriminalisation'. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought Gillard was keen to do not-much-at-all about climate change. This just sounds like an attempt to confuse things, and slow the progress that we're on the verge of making. As for Bolt, he sold his soul to the devil years ago.

Just got an aborted fetus puppet by mail

Most people probably agree that abortion is not a good thing, the issue is (and what many anti-abortionists seem to dodge) is how do you manage the issue effectively, to minimize the overall number of abortions. Simply banning things just doesn't work. Prohibition never seems to work for any issue and only pushes it 'underground. It's pro-life verses pro-choice. maybe even Religion vs Science. Should a person ever have the right to end another innocent human's life? But would anti-abortionists prefer 'backyad' abortions? (it certainly does happen after all) Obviously a balanced and regulated approach is the best possible and most realistic approach. I really don't like the in your face kinda stuff that goes around, it think it just dodges the real issue of how to minimise abortions. The idea of late term abortions certainly does seem immoral to me, I personally think they should outlaw that particular practice, but I'm more of a pro-choicer for the very early stages.
