Victorian EB (III) Conference Report

Recommended Posts

After sleeping in to about 3:00pm (don't ask)

I thought I would make my way down to Ringwood

to see if the conference was still in swing.

I arrived and was surprised to see more than

double the number of people compared with the

Mini-EB in late 2001! I am not sure of the

numbers but there must've been at least 50?

I managed to catch Torsten's talk which dealt

with rave culture, and also his tips on plant

propagation which gave me a few new ideas.

(think: coarse sharp sand)

Other people will be in a better position than

me to give more detail on the various talks.

Anyway, the conference ran overtime about an

hour or so and Carl invited us back to his

house (or was it his partners?)

I (think) I met Ed Dunkel, who passed on some

warmly recieved S. tortuosum cuttings. Was

that you Ed?

It was a beautiful relaxed summers afternoon

with plenty of informal discussions going on.

I caught up with a few people from the forums

here, and undoubtedly there are a number that

were there who I didn't place a screen name

to. I am constantly surprised by the the

diversity of the people who attend EB meets.

I mean we had academics like Tom through to

Bockies little 'un who kept on falling over.

Sadly there was no CS this year :-(

Special points to Spiral Eyes and Torsten

(and partners) for distance travelling.

Torsten was handing out some fresh HBWR seeds

which shall be interesting; he also had some

seeds which I naively had no idea what they

were - used as a snuff he said - regardless

I lacked the daring to contemplate stick'n'em

up my nose so I let them pass ;-)

It was a really relaxed calm day - even the

contentious discussion on Acacia Phleb.

conservation issues seem to reach a sensible

conclusion!

Thanks to Carl & co. for organising it, also

thanks to Carl for the San Pedro cutting

(which is larger than some of my three year

old 'pedros so I can hardly be called a

cutting) and the Heavenly Blue seedling.

It was good to see y'all - hope this can

happen again, hopefully maintaining it's

relaxed, free-form type vibes.

A quick vote indicated that a longer

conference was desired and with the suggested

time of around Mushroom season (for some

reason), ie March. If it happens, I hope to

see you there again.

S.

as a first timer, i thought the whole thing was great. the speakers varied, & all interesting, & a relaxed & friendly atmosphere. thought it was excellent the way carl invited everyone back w/out any hesitation. unfortunately we had to shoot off, so i missed the computer program search for ethnos in victoria- which i was pretty interested in. would the guy who was running it (i appologise for not getting his name) be at the next one? or on this board?

Heh

I mannaged to get about 90min of interupted sleep & woke up 20min before VEBC(III) started, a few minutes later I recieved a phone call from a friend to tell me that he was'nt going and I had no lift.

That's why I was so late (grrr PublicTransport) and also appeared a bit skegged (esp by 9:00) :0

It was encouraging to see so many there this year, I just wish I was there 'fully'.

Thank you to Carl, Tim & Sue & others for organising the event and providing a venue.

Another thank you to all the speakez, teacherz & lernerz.

Going by the show of hands, it seems as though there'll be a two day, multi staged, fully catered & licenced Ethno-Extravaganza, twice a fortnight & visiting a town near you.

Well don't quote me but lets keep our minds open and fingers crossed anyway wink.gif

Adrian

Yep,

I was handing out the sceletium, which one were you Somnif?

I hope they are going alright as I was in a hurry when I took the cuttings that morning and didn't really handel them well. Anyway... stick them ASAP in some Coarse Sharp Sand and water them. Baby them till they form loads of roots and them get them in a sunny dryish spot. Water if they wilt the first coupla times and then they should be established and happy.

I'll send out some morerooted cuttings if anyone is interested in them or if theirs died.

The mini converence was great (as a first timer as well)!!! Good to meet people in person (Adrian, Torsten etc....) and hear good talks on interesting subjects.

Thanks to the organisers for organising a great little conference.

E D

ps. could some of those emails and web addresses they wrote on the white board be posted here? Cheers.

deary me, what a weekend wink.gif (he says on tuesday)

Only just got back and had a fantastic time. Great meeting lots of new people and lots of forum folks (interesting, if somewhat confusing to put faces to forum names). And Carl & co made the whole thing look so easy. Very relaxed group, both in the room and out. It would have been nice to keep the WHOLE group together for a little bit after the conference, so a greener setting might be a good idea. Some people just hadn't planned on Tim & Sue's wonderful hospitality.

I hope I didn't miss anyone or neglected anyone. These kinda events & travel are usually quite demanding.

Daniel and I had a ball!!!

The HBWR seed I handed out was the nervosa variety smile.gif (viable and potent)

The other seed was Anadenanthera colubrina (viable).

Sorry have not had the time to Wright a report until now.

After getting back from the desert where I was filming for the doco and Rak Razam and the ‘Barrow full of Monkeys’ it was a enjoyably to jump strait in the deep end and speak at the conference.

The day was very informative and it was good to see so many people down in Melbourne are prepped to come out and engage in philosophical, scientific and above all spirituel ideas that map the connections between mankind and owe Plant Environment.

Thanks very much for putting it on Carl and Co, thanks very much for all the speakers for putting in the effort to make the day happen. Thanks for all the lovely people that travelled interstate too see and met up with us,---hope you all got home ok.

It was excellent fun to go back and chill on the grass across the road from Carls, was very good for the soul and it was good to meet people and mach some facers with names.

Apologize for the nervousness and seriousness of my speech; I have never done one before. Hope it was still encouraging and informative in some fashion.

Thanks again to all the informative speakers and a Five stars thanks to Tosten and Michel B. for there excellent and informative speeches (hows voices I hope we here echoing in the entheogen scene for years to come).

I hope the Sydney meet works out and I am looking forwold to getting up there if I can.

Fother more hope the curry and back lawn where satisfiable S&K

Is there any chance of a mp3 (low bitrate,

eg 32kbit, 22050Hz Mono) being release of

some of the talks? (if of course the presenters

agree with this)

Unluckily my mini disk was playing up on the day, that is why I was walking around so much.

Some one else there was recording with one. If someone knows who he was then can they contact him please. I know I chatted with him on the day, English I think.

to which slack pricks are you referring? surely not for us southerly types to be organising such things. peoples around oh say cairns for instance should have a decent garden to wander through by now. don't tell me your significant other was in such a hurry that he left his garden behind bwaahaa.
