devils_cactus Posted June 3, 2005 I know its been posted about before, but I thought it should be mentioned... I have 5 healthy T. Pachanois. they all have pups...one even has 2! The crazy thing is that all of the pups emerged over the same night 5 cactii, 6 pups all in one night. I think it's amazing and to tell you the truth I don't really care how/why it happens. I'm just happy it does
strangebrew Posted June 3, 2005 Are they clones? Yeah it's freaky the way that happens, synchronized pupping within species happened a few times to me over the past growing season.
Flip Posted June 4, 2005 I'm inclined to believe that they're all clones with the same environment that may have been cross sending chemical ques to one another (gas?).
teonanacatl Posted June 4, 2005 alot of mine pupped at the same time, not same nite but within a week. i think its to do with water and nutes.
spunwhirllin Posted June 4, 2005 Strange indeed, I noticed that two of my T bridgesii monstrous pupped within a day of each other, yea i look at my cacti way to often. But heres the kicker, one of these was sourced out of south africa, while the other was sourced out of california. HMM,possibly distant relatives,I'm thinkin so. Most of my other cacti produced pups sporadicly during the previous month,so i'm not sure what triggered the puppin action.
Jack Posted June 4, 2005 I had some pachanoi and bridgessi montrose pup at the same time.
devils_cactus Posted June 4, 2005 Plant communication? Sounds very 'Day of the Triffids' Is there any plants that have been proven to communicate?
faslimy Posted June 4, 2005 Of course they communicate, silly
Gunter Posted June 4, 2005 My T. riomizquensis and an SS02 have been sitting topped with no pups for some time, and other cacti are throwing them like mad. How do those bridgesii you mentions compare in other ways my friend?
Flip Posted June 4, 2005 Devils Cactus, you know, I typed in plant communication and came up with a few university articles. http://www.edwardwillett.com/Columns/plant...mmunication.htm http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/forums/s...read.php?t=7386 now these focus upon defensive /damage communication between different species. puping may be a different matter but if they're all clones, same environment etc. then it's reasonable that they're going to branch out at the same times and this may be helped along by certain chemicals that may be released during the process, influencing one plant from the other. Salvi Posted June 5, 2005 LOL..That penis plant even has balls! :D Edit: A quick question: Do the penis plants ever revert to a normal bridgesii form? Or will I have to purchase both forms separately? [ 05. June 2005, 02:24: Message edited by: Salvi ]
Gunter Posted June 5, 2005 The latter I suspect, though I hear that the penis plants can throw pups that look normal at first.
apothecary Posted June 5, 2005 I believe there are two forms of T. bridgesii v. monstrose. One which grows to a certain point and stops, and can only continue growing by pupping: http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery...Trichpenis1.JPG And another that grows in a columnar fashion similar to normal T. bridgesii, except its all melty and stuff. http://www.erowid.org/plants/cacti/images/..._bridgesii3.jpg

teonanacatl Posted June 7, 2005 yep you got it apoth i think there are a few more varieties then that aswell. strangebrew (i think) found an awersome bridgesii that reverted from monstrose to normal growth. the only commonly available one is the clumping one which you have.
